2-Day Uluru (Ayers Rock) National Park Explorer Trip from Alice Springs

Alice Springs, Australia

Your two day independent coach tour includes the highlights of Uluru (Ayers Rock) National Park. Travel by luxury coach from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock and experience the majesty of this monolith and the neighboring Olgas.

Day 1. Camel Farm, Mala Walk, Mutitjulu Waterhole, Kantju Gorge, Uluru (Ayers Rock) Sunset Drinks

Departing Alice Springs, travel through the vast outback and stop at a camel farm before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. This afternoon visit the Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Craft Cooperative. Join a guided walk to Mutitjulu waterhole. See cave paintings and hear the legends of Kuniya Tjukurpa (Python Dreaming). Tour the base of Uluru before joining your guide to learn about the geology and flora of the region on the Mala Walk. Explore Kantju Gorge then, late this afternoon, relax and enjoy a complimentary glass of wine as you watch the beautiful sunset at Uluru.

You have a choice of accommodation on this tour at Ayers Rock. Select between budget, first class or deluxe accommodation categories.

Day 2. Uluru at Sunrise, Kata Tjuta (Olgas), Walpa (Olga) Gorge

Rise early and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee at Uluru as the sun casts its first rays and the desert comes to life. With the sun still climbing, travel to the western section of the national park to tour the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta. Join a guided walk into majestic Walpa Gorge and marvel at the sheer walls that flank you as you enter the gorge. Learn of the domes formation and of the wildlife of the region. Some of the plants you will see here are so rare that they are only found among these rocky domes. Transfer to Ayers Rock airport for flights after midday.

The rock was much less than expected but perhaps that is because I come from Arizona and we have the Red Rock area of Sedona, far more spectacular, and the Grand Canyon. The tour was boring. So we just skipped the morning part. Worst of all we were not aware that booking the outback pioneer meant walking a long distance outdoors to a toilet. We paid to upgrade. So do not book the outback if you don't want to walk in the dark to facilities!

We needed a tour that would get us from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock and allow us to explore the rock. This one fit the bill nicely. It's a long, approximately 6-hour journey from Alice Springs to Ayers Rock on one long straight road through the desert with a couple of stops. One stop allows you to ride a camel, which I thoroughly recommend! The driver was quite informative, giving you information as you go. The sightseeing around the Olgas and Ayers Rock was great. The sunset and sunrise were a really memorable experience. We also enjoyed the partial hike around the base of the rock, for which the bus driver tells you about the Dreamtime Aboriginal stories related to the rock. Our only disappointment is that we thought the tour might be lead by an Aborigine, but we only saw a few the entire time we were in Ayers Rock.

There was not much to see along the way, but the bus driver was great.
