Amsterdam City Sightseeing Tour

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Get your bearings in Amsterdam on this comprehensive, 2.5-hour introductory tour. Perfect for first-time visitors, the tours run in the morning leaving you free time to explore Amsterdam on your own in the afternoon. You also have the option of combining the tour with a delightful one-hour canal cruise for an all-inclusive introduction to this magical city of canals and gabled houses.

The in-depth city tour offers you the opportunity to experience some of the highlights of Amsterdam, and help you get to grips with the city layout. With more than 6,800 monumental houses and buildings, Amsterdam has the largest historical city center in Europe. The city is best-known for its three rings of canals lined by elaborately decorated merchants' residences and warehouses built in the 17th century, the Dutch 'Golden Age'. Ninety islands were created when the canals were built, connected by hundreds of charming bridges.

Traveling in a luxury air-conditioned coach, you knowledgeable guide will show you the old and new parts of this beautiful city with its many interesting sights. Highlights include the Royal Palace, National Monument, the Skinny Bridge, canals and Albert Cuyp Market. You will also visit a windmill on the River Amstel and a stop will be made at a diamond factory where you can see how gems are polished using traditional methods.

You also have the option to enjoy a boat trip along a typical Dutch canal (please select the appropriate tour option at time of booking). The one-hour cruise takes you along canals lined with 17th-century merchant houses, churches with bell towers and warehouses from the 16th and 17th centuries. You will also pass through Amsterdam's Old Harbor.

The city bus tour was very good and well priced._br/_ However, Viator stuffed up on their web site, saying from Nov. 2 the tour started at 2.30pm. It should have read 10AM. The 2.30 start was a week later. I did the 10AM tour the next day.

This tour is just ok. It really does not give a good perspective of the city. Hard to see and/or photograph the landmarks. Better done from a canal boat I think.

The start of my River Cruise to Budapest was a little less than perfect. I must say I was disappointed. I think the problem was that the guide had to speak in 3 langusges and by the time she was finished, I did not know what building, etc. she meant. However, It did fill in a couple of hours for me before boarding the River Queen. Could tell you that the rest of my holiday was absolutely perfect in all respects._br/_ Norma Bryce

Great intro tour for first time visitors, just the right length of time and the guide was excellent. i would recommend taking the optional canal tour, it was lovely, though this just had a recorded guide.

Brilliant! So nice to be on a tour bus and listen to a ' person' instead of having to use earphones to listen to a recording! Much more personalised! The canal cruise was also superb!

My friend and I thought it was very boring. Just drove around in bus with places getting pointed out . Got off once to take photos of a windmill and then last stop the Diamond Factory. The bus was in traffic jams most the the time. My friend actually fell asleep.

A good orientation to the city. What I did not know was going to happen was that we were going to see one of the diamond factories, so this came as a pleasant surprise. I now know what at €41,000 diamond looks like!

The tour helped me to navigate the city on my own afterward with a street map. We also stopped at a diamond factory for a tour which was very informative and of course the diamonds were great too. They had a store where you could purchase jewelry, watches, and of course diamond rings! We saw many of the museums, Ann Frank House enabling me to decide how to spend the balance of my day and how to locate these sites on my own via the canal buses.

Very good as has been everything I booked with Viator. Again could have been clearer where I was to pick up tour. It was a small shop front on a very busy street.

We spent more time at the diamond factory than was necessary. Wish we could have seen/heard more of Brussels. Also, the audio quality on this pre-recorded tour was very poor.

This tour was boring as hell. The guide totally knew 1000 languages though. That was about it. My crew fell asleep the whole thing, and when the rest of the people went out my crew got a few beers. Met up and slept the rest of the ride. The stuff they show really isnt that interesting if you're going to amsterdam to party haha. Go to the anne frank house instead on magic truffles.

Review by: Charles S May 2011
The tour provided a good way to get acquainted with the layout of Amsterdam. The stop at the windmill was a highlight. However, in hind sight it would have been better to select a walking tour in order to see more of the points of interest in the inner city. The real disappoint of the tour was the fact that of the 2.5 hours, 1 hour was spent at the diamond factory/shop

No time was given for stops to take pictures of churchs, canals and old but beautiful buildings along the route of the bus tour. Wish I had taken the canel tour instead of the bus tour.

I was a bit disappointed with this tour. Someone at the travel agency where the tour was supposed to start directed me somewhere else, I ended up waiting for half an hour in the cold and missing my tour. I went back to the agency and was told the person I'd spoken to was new and she'd made a mistake. They told me I could do the tour the next day, but they were very rude, and I ended up wasting a day of my holiday. I would have expected Viator to be more careful about choosing the agencies they'll work with, as my previous experience with Viator was nothing like this. The tour was ok, the driver and the guide were very nice. However, you should be aware that most of the tour is spent in a diamond factory and on the way to a windmill. The rest is a quick drive-through of Amsterdam, you'll only be able to take a quick glance at things, but I guess that's what you get for the price. Also, you'll have to find where the canal cruise starts on your own, they'll just drop you off at the travel agency.

This was fairly interesting in that we at least knew we were getting a bus tour and that is what we got. The person directing the tour did a great job. The thing that was really annoying was when we got taken to a "diamond factory" which was just a tourist trap. You get dropped off, locked in a room, and they try to sell you diamonds. It was ridiculous and a complete waste of time. Other than that it was a good tour. Also, if you are planning on getting the I Amsterdam card then do not pay for the canal cruise option because you get a free canal cruise with the I Amsterdam card.

I liked the bus tour but it is infrequent "I have to wait almost 2 hours for the ride". Also, the stop at Gassan diamond factory was toooo long to the point I didn't do the boat cruise part that I paid for. I was concerned to miss my flights and I had to call the guid personally and paging him many times before he responded. I think you need to be more specific about the time.
