Acropolis Walking Tour

One for all you History buffs - discover Athens' Ancient history on this fascinating city walking tour with your local guide. Venture inside the ancient Acropolis and admire just how this ancient monument towers above the city below. You'll also see such sites as the House of Parliament and the Plaka as you soak up the local scene.

Syntagma Metro station, where your tour begins contains many archaeological exhibits including ancient grave stones, an aqueduct from the 5th century BC, pottery, a 2,000-year old beehive and a mosaic from the 5th century AD.

You will then see the House of the Greek Parliament, former Palace. Walking through the Syntagma Square, the heart of the city, you come either to Sotira of Lycodimos or the Kottakis Church both beautiful Byzantine churches which you are going to visit.

Continue strolling through the Plaka's paved streets before arriving at the Lysicrates Monument from the 4th century BC and the remnants of an old Christian Church. A ten-minute walk up the beautiful Dionyssiou Areopagitou pedestrian walkway will bring you to the Acropolis, crowned by the Parthenon, with its spectacular views over the city below.

You will enjoy a profound and detailed explanation of the history of its monuments by our knowledgeable licensed guides. On the way to the Acropolis you will also see the Dionysus Sanctuary, the Philopapos Hill, the Herodion Theatre and the Mars Hill.

This tour was a perfect introduction to the city, and a great way to understand the history of this city! The guide pointed out things we would not have noticed if we had been walking around the city, and really brought it to life. Even though it was really warm outside, the guide made sure we were walking or standing in shaded areas and it was a really relaxed stroll around the city, gardens, and Acropolis. The guide also had photos to really help us understand the history of Greece.

Great tour to go on, guide walked us through most of the big sites and then up into the Acropolis itself. Maybe there was a bit much talk of the history when I would rather be exploring. Did not know that we had to buy tickets to enter the sites on the day.

We happened to book this tour on a day that the staff at the acropolis were on strike, so in fact we could not go into the acropolis itself. Our tour guide took the opportunity to walk us around many other great sights in Athens, such as the palace and the Olympic stadium. He also took us to the top of a hill overlooking the acropolis and gave us the briefing that we would have had if we were in there, so in fact we ended up with a much better tour than we had even hoped for. I would highly recommend this tour!

Guide was knowledgeable and the excursion was well planned. Unfortunately, too many tourists - wall to wall! If we had not had the guide I doubt that we would have appreciated this magnificent archaeological and historic site. Money well spent.

Our tour guide Theodora very good. Good way to see Athens. She had helpful hints for our stay in Athens._br/_ Only disappointment was had to pay extra 12 euro per person to go into Temple of Zeus and the Acropolis. Not much point in going on walk if you can not enter sites without paying. Extra costs should have been added to and included in initial price.

Athens has many shortcomings, but this tour redeemed the city in our eyes. Our guide, Kristos, was great. He kept things interesting and kept us in the shade as much as possible. He was a real font of information and made these ancient sites come to life. I would definitely recommend this tour to others coming to Anthens.

Our tour guide, Vikki, was phenomenal She truly knew the history of Greece through all the periods of history and made it come to life as we walked through the different places. It was extremely hot the day we had the tour and she was very caring toward some of the individuals who were struggling with the heat. She tried on every occaision to do the talk in shaded areas and gave us great advice as to how go back to different areas after the tour. She was so knowledgable and made the history come to life. She gave us extra time and answered all questions asked by the individuals on the tour in a very thorough manner. I would give her a five star rating and would highly recommend her as a superior guide! We saw her later in the week conducting a guided tour in Corinth and listening to her in the distance, she was much more thorough than the guide for our tour! Our extreme gratitude to Vikki!

Great tour by an experienced guide who took plenty of time to answer our questions, give us information and help take photos. The walking was broken up by lots of rest stops and checks to make sure we were all OK. Only 6 people on the tour so it was very personalized and extremely interesting. A fantastic way to spend a morning in Athens. Don't miss this !

Fabulous, comprehensive walking tour of the National Gardens, Parliament Building, Changing of the Guards, Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, Theatre of Dionysus, Odeon, and Acropolis Rock. Had a fabulous sampling of Greek Yogurt that was better than anything we get in the states as well. Informed, patient guide, great timing/pacing, well worth the money.

An absolute must do! Despina was our tour guide and she had an amazing way of blending the past with the future. If you take this tour and are lucky enough to get Despina, say Hallelujah! You've got one of the best tour guides ever. It is ALOT of walking and she makes tons of stops along the way. She has it timed so we were at the Parliament for the changing of the guiard. She explained it beforehand so we knew what we were looking at. In the park, she warned us to watch out for pickpockets. She also always stopped to tell us something in the shade. I wrote the tour company after to say how wonderful this tour and particularly this tour guide was.

Our guide was very knowledgable, the walk up the Acropolis was slippery and the weather was very hot, but well worth the long walk. The directions for getting down and walking through the agora was not clear, we managed to get lost, but we kept going down different paths until we found our way.

A great orientation to some ot the many important sights in Athens. I had read that the tour went to fast for elderly folks, but this was not true. Even the climb up the Acropolis was accomplished with relative ease and as many stops in the shade as could be done. Our guide, Yasiff, I think, shared so much information clearly. He really seemed to care about his material.

Our guide gave us a comprehensive tour from Syntagma station to the top of the acropolis, with a lot of interesting information. Well worth doing. However the cost of the tour did not include the entrance fee to the acropolis. I re-read the info this was stated, but tours usually do include entrance costs so I missed it.

The Acropolis Walking Tour was fabulous! Our guide was so knowledgeable, but besides having a good command of the history of the Acropolis and other places we were shown, she also had a good sense of humor and was very kind. It was good to walk - far better than a bus tour which I took earlier in the week that came with my hotel reservation. Our walking guide was also great about answering questions. Can't recommend this highly enough. We did a lot of other things during our visit to Athens, some pretty expensive, but none as great as this!
