Hydra, Poros and Egina Day Cruise from Athens

Athens, Greece

Take a cruise from Athens to the fabulous Greek islands of Hydra, Poros and Egina for a relaxing day on the sea. With all your transport, transfers and lunch organized, you can sit back and enjoy your leisurely cruise with free time on each island to explore.

After transferring from Athens to Piraeus by motor coach, you'll set sail for the island of Hydra, where you'll have free time for strolling, shopping and swimming. Next, it's on to the island of Egina, passing through the narrow strait separating the Peloponnesian coast from the island of Poros.

Upon arrival in Egina (Aegina) you can either join an excursion to the Temple of Aphaia (cost not included) or take a walk around the main town. Egina is one of the Saronic islands of Greece in the Saronic Gulf. The lovely island is only 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Athens, and is a popular getaway for Athenians during the summer months.

After lunch served on board, you'll sail to Poros in the southern Agrosaronic Gulf. You'll have free time to explore Poros - perhaps you'd like to visit ancient Trizina, the ruins of the Russian Dockyard or take a romantic stroll in the Lemon Forest. After sailing back to Piraeus port you'll be transferred to Athens.

All three Islands were nice. We did not like how long it took to get to each island, the boat used could be much faster, We spent four hours total on all the islands, but we spent seven hours on a crowded boat. Plus we paid extra to do the tour on Egina, which they later cancelled because not enough people signed up. Bad customer service, the tour was one of the big selling points of this package.... so instead we wasted an hour and forty minutes with nothing much to do.

It was a nice worthwhile trip. Visiting the islands was great, Don't take the tour bus trip on Egina. The bus tour was definitely a waste of time and money. I liked Hydra the best.

Easily the best money we spent in Athens. Coach pick up was quite simple, we met at a nearby hotel. The English speaking staff were all so friendly, the islands were utterly beautiful (and lovely and quiet too at this time of year). We even saw wild dolphins on our tour swimming next to the boat. The sea was crystal clear and the ride, although it was quite long, it was never boring. The trip allowed spare time on each island. Easily my favourite of the three was Hydra, which was picture perfect with lovely winding streets, friendly locals and cars and bicycles are banned there! Poros had some lovely boutique shops. Egina allowed time on the island for 2 optional tours (For €25 approx) (we went for the classical history tour) which took us up to see the wonderfully preserved temple of Afea. We tried fresh pistachio icecream and we saw groves of pistachio trees (Though they aren't in bloom yet) Lunch on the cruise was fine, you eat travelling between 2 islands so you don't notice the journey. If you're vegetarian I'd actually recommend taking a little bit of lunch or a snack just in case it's meat though, if I'd thought ahead I would have done that. They seat you in little groups for a 3 course meal, it was nice and informal and the service was good. We had a greek salad, a chicken and rice main (I didn't eat that but my boyfriend said it was very nice!) and a delicious orange cake. We thought it was really good value for how much we got out of the trip, and it was easily one of my favourite parts of my trip to Athens!

The only negative on this trip was that all the seats on the deck of the boat were wet. It was like they sprayed them all with a hose right before we boarded. Otherwise this would have been a perfect trip.

Incredible disappointing. Spent more time on the boat then on the islands. It was painful the amount of time on the boat. Islands were pretty. Then having to pay 25 euro at Egina for the ride to 1 set of ruins was horribly over priced and not worth it.

the trip was nice but not much to see on these islands and there is not enough time on each island -- most of the time you spend on the boat, the trips onshore on first two islands are not guided so you dont know what you are looking at .. the last island actually had a guided tour unfortunately we took it Christmas day so everything was closed.. overall, nice excursion but not worth the money in my opinion

Good trip to get out and see a few islands and get some ocean air. The optional tours on the last island are decent, but overpriced and can be skipped without really missing anything substantial.

All the sites were picturesque. Was a quick tour of the 3 islands, snapped a lot of pictures and really enjoyed the pristine waters. The heritage tour to Temple of Aphaia at Egina was brief but glean quick insights to the history of this site. The show on the cruise was highly entertaining too. Go on a clear day - check out weather forecast before - you'll be sure to have a lot of fun!

We were picked up almost half hour wait - which was really stressful since no one was answering on the telephone number provided. The tour was in the fall and it was a cold day. The buses were unheated so after waiting in the cold for the bus for 30 minutes we got on the bus to freeze more. The boat was also cold. Most of the tour group was composed of Chinese or Spanish tourists, with only about ten or so of us that spoke English out of over 200. We were haphazardly moved around the boat with one tour woman occasionally telling us what to do. The staff spend most of the time speaking to the Chinese tourists. Very little history about the islands or the area was provided. Lunch was edible but nothing to go wild over (greasy pork dish with stale rolls) - our entertainment consisted of Chinese tourist singing karaoke. The company peddled two more tours to us after we were on the boat. We picked the leisurely bus ride (for an additional amount) - a one hour speed drive on a full sized coach bus through poor rural Greek neighborhoods on tiny streets littered by dump sights (I've never seen so many mattresses outside of a bed store). All in all I enjoyed the boat ride since I love boats and being on the ocean, but, in hindsight, I think I'd have better spent my day enjoying more of Athens.

It was a really good day however the island stop in Poros was a bit of a rush, I think this tour would be better just going to 2 islands so you have a bit more time as Poros and Egina were a bit rushed. Hydra was beautiful and we had almost 2 hour there, it is a beautiful town to walk about and look at the local shops and have a drink before getting back on the boat. When back on the boat we were served lunch which was just OK not very Greek which disappointed me but it was edible but I was glad I had had a cheese pie in Hydra before getting back on the boat. The cruise to Poros was nice and the views as we arrived were spectacular but we only had about 50 minutes here which wasn't enough really. I went up to the clock tower took some pictures then down to the sea front for a coffee and it was time to get back on the boat. Then it was off to Egina which was a bigger island and I decided to book the optional tour to Aphia Temple, the Monasrty and the pistashio factory, the bus was waiting for us and the guide was knowledgeable but her English was not very good we got to the temple we only had 20 minutes there and her talk lasted almost 20 minutes which didn't leave much time for photos then we went to monastery but we had left 11 people at the temple she hadn't counted properly, the bus went back for them and we had to wait 20 minutes for bus to come back, then pistashio shop not really a factory. I was a good day just rushed.

Tour was postponed due to whatever reason, then we left the port only to return and sit on the boat for nearly 2 hrs while what ever the problem was sorted out- there were not enough seats on the boat so it was extemely uncomfortable.

I liked the one day cruise a lot more than I thought I would. I was afraid when the bus first arrived at the ship because it looked a little old but everything was completely adequate. Not sure that we needed to go to all three islands. Seemed to all look the same towards the end and there is nothing to look at between each island. The lunch served on board was turkey/gravy and potatoe wedges, dinner salad and amazing greek desert. My vegan option was greenbeans and potatoe wedges, salad and desert. All drinks are extra charge but the whole cruise was very efficient EXCEPT it took forever to unboard at the docks. They did change our trip date because of Ship breakdown so I was under the impression that this was a different ship and the staff was having docking problems. No info was given about the slight delays.

The best part of our trip to Greece. After a few hectic days in Athens it was soooo nice to relax on the cruise and visit the beautiful and peaceful islands. Everything about the cruise was perfect. From being picked up at the door of our hotel to being dropped off at the end. The lunch was great, except the drinks were expensive. We highly recommend this cruise and are so happy we took it. This is our third tour with Viator and you cannot go wrong with this company.

Really Really long day, tour lasted 14 hours including hotel pick and drop off. The islands were beautiful. The boat was crowded and hot with no AC. Lunch was horrible and everyone was crammed into a small room. The optional tour on Egina was expensive costing between €20-25 pp. The pistachio plant was very nice, but the rest of the optional tour we could have done without. And the bus driver on the optional tour almost got in an accident as he was talking on his phone and not paying attention. I think the optional tour should have been included in the price, and lunch should be optional. Would much rather ate at one the local restaurant. The tour company wasn't really a tour company as all it did was supply transportation. You are better off just going and touring the islands on your own. Very unprofessional tour company, upon returning the staff did not know how to dock properly and it took over 20 minutes for them to tie the boat and attach the gang plank. Also, the bus driver on our way back to the hotel brought his 10 year old son who kept singing on the bus, which we thought was kind of unprofessional, to bring his son to his job.

We were very disappointed with this trip, we left Pireaus on time everything looking good but then after about 30mins sailing we ended up back at Pireaus where we stayed for 2 hours with no clear indication from crew on board what the problem was, there was a problem with the port authority but it was very obvious that nobody knew what was going on, then after 2 hours we suddenly left the the port ,again no explanation or apology. This delay obvisiously meant the whole day was cut short. We had only 1.5hours on Egina no information given about what to find on the island, then sailed past Poros with a short commentary on the island. We had only 1hour 20 mins on Hydra which was very disappointing as we were expecting double that ,again no information as to what we could do on the island. We were led to believe from your website that there were excursions that could be done while visiting these islands but we had neither the time or information to enable us to do anything other than have a quick stroll along the harbour. The lunch was also a disaster no explanation that it was served over 2 sittings, just pushed away from where we wished to sit. The food was awful, wasn't expecting too much but a dish of lettuce and a plate of chicken within congealed gravy was not really very palatable on that sort of trip.

This cruise was excellent. We booked a hotel in Poros thinking it was the last island and that we would make our own way home but were terrified upon hearing it was only the second island! Thinking we would have to abandon the second part of the trip to Egina, we consulted the staff. They were EXTREMELY helpful and said it would not be a problem to pick up the cruise the next day when it would arrive in Poros. They have dealt with stop-overs before and said we should get what we paid for the whole cruise. It was great! We saw Egina and didn't even have to find our own way home. This made our trip a lovely success!!!

This cruise was much better than I had anticipated. I have booked other cruises before, but everything included on this particular one was exceptional. The boat was much larger and nicer than I had imagined and a large lunch was included. The crew was very accommodating and I was able to stay on the island of Poros and pick up the cruise the next day so that I didn't miss Egina. Overall, the experience was one I won't forget!

If you have only one day to cruise the Greek islands as I did, on a mainly-business trip, this is an excellent trip to take. All three islands are beautiful, with Hydra being the most interesting, in my opinion. The port there is especially beautiful, yachts, working fishing boats, and small donkeys that are very alert and sleek-looking. The sea was calm when we traveled. I thought the side trip to the Temple of Aphaia on Aegina was worthwhile, although there is an extra charge for it. There is a small shop selling museum replicas, souvenirs, and pistachio ice cream near the temple. The lady behind the counter will attempt to greet you in your native language, I'm pretty certain that if she greets you in Greek, the ice cream price is half of the price for English speakers! I didn't mind. If you are able to take a longer trip, everyone I know who's traveled to the Greek islands recommends Santorini extremely highly.

Overall the trip was fantastic and was a great way to see the islands quickly if you are on a short trip. The cruise was very well organised although we did not take up any of the 'extra' tours that you could do from the boat as we preferred to do this ourselves. We also skipped the lunch on the boat in favour of a Gyros in Hydra and a later lunch on the seafront in Aegina which was fantastic. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who is on a short trip to Athens and wants to experience the islands.
