Provence Afternoon Half-Day Trip from Avignon

Avignon, France

First visit today is to the famous Pont du Gard, vestige of a 1st century AD roman aqueduct. Protected by UNESCO and World Heritage Listed, it is an amazingly well-preserved monument that will take your breath away.

Visit Les Baux de Provence, a village located upon a rock which is 804 feet (245 meters) high. In the historical center, visit the Museum of Santons, the Hotel des Porcelets, beautiful 16th Century houses and the St Vincent Church.

Visit the tiered village of Gordes, overlooking the rivers Sorgue and Calavon. The top of the village is crowned by a sturdy chateau built between the 11th and 16th centuries. One of the most beautiful villages in France and completely made with dry stones.

Visit Roussillon (Optional):
You can also upgrade to visit Roussillon. The tour will be extended by one and half hours to 6:30pm. Drive through the Luberon regional park region full of charm, known for its beautiful countryside and picturesque hill-top villages including Roussillon which is famous for its red and yellow ochre cliffs and unusual natural landscape.

Beautiful scenaries, but not enough time in each sightseeing spot, 45min max each. Suggested to allow more time for each spot.

We had a wonderful trip. Since we were traveling without a car, we were able to see things we otherwise would not have been able to get to. The guide was very knowledgable and pleasant. I would recommend this trip.

Since we weren't traveling by car this tour gave us a way to visit sites out in the countryside that we wouldn't have been able to otherwise. For that alone it was worth it. We would have liked more time at Les Baux (time to tour the castle and the town) and less at Gordes. Taking pictures from a distance at Gordes was enough. The time at Pont du Gard was fine. Our guide was pleasant although I think we expected more "guiding" through the towns.

We didn't have many days in Provence and this trip brought us to some great locations (plus the drive was a nice break from walking). The driver was knowledgeable and entertaining too!

Our tour guide and driver, Marc, was very knowledgeable, and the villages of Rousillion and Gordes were truly amazing. Unfortunately, I felt that there was not enough time to spend in each location that we visited, and we barely had enough time to snap a few pictures, buy a coffee and use the restrooms before we had to move on to the next site. If the tour includes Roussillion, an extra hour or hour and a half would have been perfect!

This trip was wonderful and surpassed my expectations. Virginia was awesome. One would want several hours in each place but since things are so spread out that is impossible in a half day trip. I highly recommend!! There was hotel pick up and drop off, leaving the driving to Virginia in a nice van and air conditioned.

A very well conceived tour which offered an excellent introduction to the Luberon and Alpilles, plus the Pont de Gard. The guide was full of information and together with the small size of the tour made the tour friendly and informal. For content and enjoyment, the tour felt more like a whole than half a day.

Our Half-Day trip around Provence exceeded expectations. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and explained things clearly. She gave us plenty of time to visit the places on the route. The three towns and the Pont-du Gard were all quite different and all very interesting as well as beautiful to look at. A well planned and most enjoyable tour! and a great tour guide!

Small group tour with good tour guide with three stops that are adequate in length.

The tour guide was very arrogant and not very friendly. He basically gave all his attention to an older couple from Australia and completed excluded us from the tour. As a result, I felt as though I wasn't part of this tour. He was the worst tour guide I had and would never recommend this tour to anyone going to this region. This soured my whole experience and the whole day seemed rushed.

The guide knew the best locations for photography and suggested where to visit when time was limited. We would not have been able to visit these places by public transport. It's worth paying for air conditioned vehicle alone in warm weather!

The stone villages of Gordes and Baux de Provence were so beautiful, we couldn't get enough pictures. The Pont du Gard was unbelievably majestic, and my daughter and I were in awe of the genius of the Roman engineers; however, we would have liked a little more time there.

This is a great tour of a truly beautiful part of France. We saw much of the local scenery, even more than the destinations promised. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered every question we threw at him - antiquities, local customs, culture, agricultural practices, history, architecture, local politics, and even cooking with truffles! This is the best way to see and learn about the region shy of actually living there. Highly recommended.

We had a very kind car driver and tour conductor. We were given a lot of time to stay in the places on our own, but no explanation was given in advance. The site was introduced during the trip, and once in the place you have time to do what you want.

The scenery was fantastic. The mini-bus arrived on time at our hotel and although there was only the four of us we received the full tour. The young woman driver was a very competent driver and also gave us an excellent commentary. We had ample time at each stop to sightsee and browse. All of us, three adults and an eleven year old boy, thoroughly enjoyed the whole afternoon.
