Small Group Provence and Lavender Museum Day Trip from Avignon

Avignon, France

Purple fields of fragrant lavender are the essence of Provence. Take this small group day trip from Avignon and you'll drive past fields of wild lavender and discover traditional village markets selling a shimmering palette of fruit, vegetables and flowers. Your minivan holds a maximum of eight passengers, and a small group tour is the perfect way to get to out-of-the-way places in one day.

The tour takes you to Sault, the lavender capital of Provence, or for a photo stop on the picturesque Claparedes plateau. There's free time and a lunch stop in Sault or the ochre-hued town of Roussillon to shop for floral essences, soaps, honey and all manner of scented products in the lavender shops.

You'll then take a drive across wild lavender fields, passing small villages including St. Jean and Lioux. You'll stop to visit the dry-stone village of Gordes, one of the most beautiful villages in France.

After a photo stop at Senanque Abbey, a Cistercian monument surrounded by a wonderful lavender field (in bloom mid-June to mid-July), it's on to the famous lavender museum in Coustellet. You'll learn all there is to know about lavender from the informative video, exhibition and demonstration of distillation.

Our guide, Virginie, was wonderful, and we loved the tour. She took us to the lavender museum, lavender fields, a local lavender farm where they were in the process of making lavender oil, as well as a number of small towns. She was entertaining, and informative, and we would book another tour with her anytime.

Over all, it was very nice to see lots of lavender field. I chose Tuesday because I wanted to see the artisan market at Gordes but we only had 40 mins to look around the town, which was too short. We didn't have time to have our lunch either. We had our short lunch at 3pm. I think it would have been better if we visited fewer places(since they were all very similar) and had enough time to have lunch and look around one town. Anyway, I think I went there at the best time in the year, so I liked it a lot.

The trip was excellent. But I booked another trip on the previous day and they cancelled it because the car batterie died and they refused to wake up the mechanic on a Saturday. He fixed it at about 2pm. If you fly over from afar, plan for a week to week around the french schedule

The trip is wonderful as it took us to some beautiful lavender fields. The tour guide was friendly and helpful. The only thing needs to improve is the trip was a bit rush and we did not have enough time to take photo and shop!

Excellent, but I would have added Bonnieux, Menerbes, and possibly Lacoste. Also, you could do all of this on your own in a day with a car for a lower price.

Through no fault of the company or our tour guide, our group was trapped in a town where a bicycle race was occurring. The police would not let any cars out for four hours. So we lost all that time. I would have liked to reschedule the tour, but the tour guide said it was impossible because the company was booked for the rest of the week. Consequently, she rushed through the tour for the next four hours. It was very uncomfortable. She drove exceedingly and frighteningly too fast through the mountains and on the roads also. We were rushed at every stop. Finally we had only one facility stop in four hours even though the passengers asked her for another stop. That was very uncomfortable also! We had all paid for the day long leisurely trip and did not get a leisurely time. Very disappointing. I was very happy to get out of that van when the trip was over.

I love this trip even though it was not the best season to see lavender in early June. We still had a lot to see, not just the lavender fields, but also the small towns. The trip ran according to the schedule, very good timing. The guide was friendly and knowledgable.

Great scenery, great guide. A chance to see a Provence village, take great photos, enjoy a market stop all in one day. Comfortable van and accommodating service in Avignon.

A great day out in the countryside. The experience of wading through lavender fields is superb. A market day in picturesque Gordes offers you the tastes and smells of Provence life.

The tour guide seems to be in a hurry. As it's name is Lavender Tour we just rushed through a few lavender fields, each approx 15 min, but we arrived at Avignon Center an hour early.

I have used Viator several times in the past in European cities and will continue to do so, as well as recommending your services to others! However, I do have two suggestions for this particular full-day Lavender tour. One complaint is that we were picked up at our later than the advertised time, due to Festival traffic and then, had to spend nearly half an hour going to two other hotels before embarking on the tour. We lost almost an hour of time, including the dropping off process for those people at the end. I was also disappointed to not get to see the famous Abbey. Instead, we went to a small town first to shop at the market. Since the focus was the Lavender, I wasn't satisfied spending an hour doing this instead. My compliments to the driver guide was very informative and always looking for the best opportunities to take photos. She was very flexible and patient. I really appreciated being able to see the distillery, too.
