Aboriginal Dot Painting Workshop

Ayers Rock, Australia

Learn the inside story and meaning of art works directly from Aboriginal artists!

Join Aboriginal artists at the Uluru Cultural Centre for a fascinating introduction to Aboriginal art and the chance to join the artists to try your own hand. Aboriginal Guides provide an introduction to their culture and how this is expressed in their art works. Join the artists to complete your own painting, which you can take home as a memento of the experience.

All tours are led by local Aboriginal people. They share their culture, explaining how they see the landscape of Uluru, and their 'Tjukurpa' or Dreamtime. These Aboriginal Guides provide much more than just a tour: they provide a unique cultural experience that constantly surpasses the expectation of their guests. Anangu have a special philosophy about sharing, They say 'Ngapartji Ngapartji: this is our culture, we share it with you, it benefits us all.'

All information on tour is interpreted into English by our experienced Aboriginal Language Interpreters, who accompany all tours.

Traveler Reviews

Review by: Marsha C, United States of America May 2009
The artist was great, as was the translator; however, after the discussion the artist went to a separate table and worked alone. It would have been better if we could have worked with her to see her technique and process. It felt like that was restricted from us, and it would have added to the experience.

If you want to know about dot painting, then this is a good way to do it, and it helps support the local population.

The interpreter was extremely patronizing.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

More suitable for families with kids, quite boring for adults. Most of the time was spent on drawing the painting ourselves with just a short introductory of the cultural stuff. I think you can even do it at home with bottles of water color. Better to spend your valuable time on other tours.
