Kuniya Sunset Aboriginal Tour including Uluru Cultural Center

Ayers Rock, Australia

Aboriginal Guides host a fascinating walk into the base of Uluru, and a visit to the Uluru Cultural Centre.

After collection from your hotel, enjoy free time in the Cultural Centre before meeting your guide for an introduction to Aboriginal Law. Your Aboriginal guide will accompany you on a visit to the caves at the base of Uluru where his or her ancestors left paintings in time worn ochres. See the beautiful Mutitjulu Waterhole, whose life-giving waters have been drunk by generations of Aboriginal people. Discover local bush foods, and hear tales of desert survival. After the tour you have time to watch the sunset over Uluru.

All tours are led by local Aboriginal people. They share their culture, explaining how they see the landscape of Uluru, and their Tjukurpa or Dreamtime. These Aboriginal Guides provide much more than just a tour: they provide a unique cultural experience that constantly surpasses the expectation of their guests. Anangu have a special philosophy about sharing, They say Ngapartji Ngapartji: this is our culture, we share it with you, it benefits us all.

All information on tour is interpreted into English by our experienced Aboriginal Language Interpreters, who accompany all tours.

The only down to this tour was we didn't get am opportunity to shop at the cultural center. The tour should end at the center to allow us to support the Aboriginal people. After learning about the people it stirred a desire to do what I could to help them keep their culture/history alive. We were staying at the Desert Garden and the shuttle didn't offer rides to the cultural center. It was a disappointment that there was no way to get back.

Enjoyed all aspects of this tour. The indigenous guide was informative, and spoke from the heart. I learnt so much about aboriginal culture and the history of Uluru from her. The tour driver was on schedule throughout.

The tour was a cleverly orchestrated scam, involving the tour company and an individual presented as a member of the local Aboriginal tribe. The tribal member pretended not to understand speak English this was prior to the guide's admission that all tribal members were quite fluent in English. Thus, we spent much time having the extremely sparse commentary of the tribal member "translated" by the tour guide, who claimed to have become fluent in the tribal language through part-time study during a 4-month period. Amazing! This was followed by protests from the tour guide because I had mistakenly videotaped the index finger of the Aboriginal pointing at a cave painting that I intentionally taped. I was also publically reprimanded by the tour guide for mistakenly taping the back of the Aboriginal from a distance of 60-80 feet, while intentionally taping the majesty of the Rock. I left the tour early because there was nothing communicated to me that wasn't printed on the trail side exhibit signs. Also, the hassle from the guide simple wasn't worth the trouble.

One of the best trips that we had organized during our holiday in Australia!

Excellent trip, and I would definitely recommend anyone to do it. All very well organised. Only comment would be to let people know that the sunrise tour is taken from the aboriginal man's perspective and the sunset from the woman's. My 9 year old son would have liked to throw the spears, but we were booked on the sunset tour, so he had to make do with women's stuff.

We were lucky enough to have Mr. Uluru himself as our tour guide. What an adorable, intelligent man! We felt we had made a real contact with the best of the Aboriginal world. This is the only way to visit Uluru! And the Australian champagne at sunset was delicious!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this tour, with the exception of the flies! It is a much smaller tour, which allows for a personal touch and really does give you the opportunity to learn a little about the Aboriginal culture, not to mention leaving you wanting to do the morning tour so that you can learn more!

So many people just go and look at Ayers Rock so it was great to be able to learn a bit about how the Aboriginal people see it and about their culture. Guy who picked us up at hotel and who sorted out sunset drinks was fascinating and informative about Australia as a whole. Thoroughly enjoyed whole experience.

It's really nice and interesting place, but our guide made our trip so slow. He kept discussing something with an aboriginal guide who, by the way, didn't say a word to us. We had a feeling that we were an annoyance for him. It made us feel uncomfortable. But the place is amazing and the program is good, so I recommend it.

We flew into Ayes Rock in the morning and did the Sunset and Sunrise tours and they left next afternoon. This tour is better than any of the others we saw. The guide is a real aboriginal who was funny and very knowledgeable. Even got to taste some of the fruit. Got a beautiful moon rise picture.

This was one of the best tours in our entire three-week trip of five different cities in Australia. The small group was a treat and all the details were handled in a smooth and relaxed manner. Our guide shared her personal experiences as well as the significance of Uluru to her people. It was heartfelt and much more meaningful to hear her speak her native language and learn why Uluru is much more than a rock. I felt it was a little too short.
