Bangkok Rice Barge Afternoon Cruise
USD $31.90

Bangkok Rice Barge Afternoon Cruise

Bangkok, Thailand

This relaxed afternoon 2.5-hour Bangkok cruise will allow you to observe Thai people going about their everyday business in the 'The Venice of the East'.

You'll be picked up from your centrally located Bangkok hotel and travel by long-tail cruise along the Bangkok canals. Travel through exotic flora and picturesque canal houses, before joining a converted rice barge cruise on the Chao Phraya river. All you need to do on this tour is sit back, relax and take in the amazing Thai scenery. Soft drinks and local fruits will be served on-board.

The rivers and canals around Bangkok serve as a natural highway for many local Thai people going about their everyday business. The people of Bangkok still depend on the waterways to transport their merchandise, in particular rice, as the canals are linked to the rice fields.

If there is a "must do" in Bangkok, the Rice Barge Cruise is it. The first hour on a narrow boat (not a long tail boat) is OK but after transferring to the Rice Boat the trip suddenly becomes wonderful. I have no hesitation in recommending it and will certainly do it again when we are next in Bangkok. As an aside, the snacks on the Rice Boat are unbelieveable - every kind of fresh fruit that you can think of and the sticky rice is excellent

The over all trip was great. Except we stared out on a noisy boat and could not hear any of the commentary. It would have been better left for the return trip on the Barge!

They should pick me up at 2 p.m. and finally they got to my hotel a 2.40 p.m. The front desk manager of my hotel was to nice to call the travel agency to ask if they would show up. To my surprise I was the only person who did the tour. The ride on the long tail boat was very nice. Some years ago I did the same trip but there were so many vendors on the river with nice souvenirs and this time nobody was selling fruits or souvenirs. May is really a low season time in Bangkok because it is 36 degress and quite humid. After the tour in the small boat we changed to a big boat where they prepared a very nice fruit platter only for me. I would recommend this trip to anyone. At the end we came very early back to the hotel and I could catch my flight to Europe without any problem.

Good to see how the locals live and rest while watching the temples and the world go past. Fruit was amazing!

Top stuff. My second time on this tour and it was just as much fun the second time around (although i remember more drinks being brought around the first time). Good for just kicking back and taking in the scenery and accompanying interesting commentary. The mango and sticky rice is delightful, and the other fruits are great too.

Pleasantly suprised at what a nice afternoon trip this was. Well worth the money paid and the snacks provided on the boat were very nice and substantial, our guide was brilliant, quite a performer and a very good impersonator of Elvis.

Good chance to see how people live on the river in Bangkok and taste the fruits of Thailand. The Rice Barge was well run and well staffed. The longboat however was ok but you couldn't hear the guide who was commentating as his microphone kept feeding back. I dont think anyone heard a word he said!

A most enjoyable afternoon. Pickup and drop-off fine. Relaxing trip. Good insight into Thai homelife and sellers along the canals as well as some of the important buildings along the way. Sumptuous afternoon teas. Such polite attendants. Glad I did it.

This was a bit of a surprise really. I chose the trip as we were due to arrive early in Bangkok, we have been there several times and I wanted a relaxing afternoon that was an alternative to trawling around the MBK Centre shopping. It turned out to be just that and more. We had a lovely couple of hours going up and down the river, first in a long-tail boat and then on a rice barge. The first leg was informative and interesting. The second offered photo opportunities and a nice cold buffet. I would recommend this trip if you want a quiet and relaxing introduction to Bangkok.

This was a very pleasant and informative afternoon. The first half was on a small boat, enabling exploration of the smaller canals and the Rice Barge was in fact, only for the latter half and the afternoon tea - a brilliant tropical fruit platter - a great way to try some of those things you see in the market... One strange touch, was including complimentary shots of whisky brought around on a tray! but if we wanted a beer we had to buy it........

Not a great tour if you've been to Bangkok before. It's just a tour of the canals for 1 hr then on a rice boat back. Having read other reviews before booking this tour, I thought we would cruise down the river for a couple of hours then come home. We went further on the ferries.

As I was alone in Bangkok I looked for a trip to fill in some time. Whilst I quite enjoyed the tour, it was a bit of a non-event, although being on the canal I don't know how it could have been improved. Perhaps I just chose the wrong trip. The fruit served on the rice barge was a bit dry, it looked like it had been prepared quite a time earlier.

Our guide was difficult to hear over the loudspeaker on the rice barge. I enjoyed the tour; there weren't that many people either. I enjoyed going through the canals in Bangkok. When we switched boats, we had a massive fruit platter and drinks.

Frankly, it was hard to understand the guide's English, but it didn't matter at all. There is so much happening on the river that I think I missed at least half the photo opportunities. Great tour; I am telling all my friends who come to Bangkok to do this.

Just a lovely experience, especially the taste sensations on the barge of the fabulous fruits. Even a cocktail was offered, a Thai Dynamite, which was unusual as you couldn't get any alcohol anywhere while the elections were on. Very reliable operator and friendly, informative guide.
