Floating Markets of Damnoen Saduak Cruise Day Trip from Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

Venture from the exotic and colorful Bangkok on a day trip to the countryside and visit Damnoen Saduak floating markets. You'll experience rural Thai culture at its best and cruise right up to vendors selling local produce for an up-close glimpse of everday life in Thailand.

You'll be picked up from your centrally located hotel and travel by air-conditioned coach from Bangkok to the Damnoen Saduak floating markets, situated 64 miles (104 kilometers) southwest of Bangkok, you will take an exhilarating ride through the marshes and stilt houses of Bangkok on a narrow, long-tailed speedboat towards the markets. Once you reach the markets your local Thai guide will ensure all your questions are answered and even assist those who may wish to take a ride on a local boat (optional extra, payable direct) through the maze of Thai style canoes laden with colorful fruits, vegetables, sweets and meats.

This is a very popular day-trip for many tourists to Thailand and subsequently many of the products for sale by the local vendors at the Damnoen Saduak floating markets today may not seem so authentically Thai.

Rushing through the local village on the long boat was a memorable experience. I really enjoyed the shopping and found unique items in the markets different from other areas. I bought beautiful puppets and handmade rattles. Absolutely gorgeous scenery and fun shopping. The guide was great. I enjoyed the two stops along the way as well. Best value for a trip to the floating markets available. I would highly recommend this trip.

This was the worst event during our entire trip. 6:10 pick up and then sit around in a bus waiting for other people for 2 hours. Are they kidding?_br/_ Not to mention being taken to TWO complete tourist traps and given "an hour" to mingle. _br/_ The market itself was just okay. It was really shopping stalls on a pier. The few on the end get to be called "floating" in my opinion since they are the only ones boats can cruise by. _br/_ Anyway, don't waste your time. Complete waste of a day.

Ride to the floating market is about 2.5-3hours... too long... tourist guide is good. .. at the floating market, fruits are cheap, pad thai is good, garments are very expensive... trip back is long...

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Yes, the markets are pretty touristy, but great fun and well worth the half day out. Highly recommended.

Good trip and the boat ride was a lot of fun. However, it is a long ride from Bangkok and the tour makes multiple "shopping stops." The tour guide was very good and extremely helpful on topics outside the tour too.

Hi All, The tour was great however Viator's organising was BAD. When I arrived in BKK late on 29Dec. no message from local operator. Rang operator @ 06:30hrs on 30Dec to see why no msg, they had NO knowledge of my booking. I quoted my booking number and itin number and they advised that although no correspondence from Viator they will honour the voucher and diverted a coach to collect me for the tour, a little later than normal. Don't think I'd bother with Viator again. Very disappointed.

This was a really interesting experience and we both really enjoyed the floating markets and the trip around the market itself. The only problem was the commute from Bangkok which took quite some time with the famous Bangkok traffic.

The tour was great. We purchased with group tour but it ended up we had a private tour since the other party canceled their tour last minute. _br/_ The tour guide was great, we went to see the floating market, saw how to make coconut sugar/oil and saw how teak furniture was made. The guide speaks fluent English and the service was great.

Tour guide, Pearl, very informative and professional. Good experience and two other attractions included in tour: visit to coconut farm and furniture factory. Remember to bargain at the market! It rained during our tour - we could not go on the boat but visited the under cover market.

Our guide was excellent, but the tour itself is not one I'd recommend. The floating market is very much a tourist trap and you can find everything offered there in the Bangkok Markets, without having to go so far.

The tour itself was great. The guide was very good, air conditioned van, etc. I just didn't like the floating markets because it's just an all day event of trying to be sold too. The vendors are very pushy. But it's not the tours fault, and if you are planning on going to the floating market anyways I would go with this tour. We spent a good amount of time there.

nice guide, but only short time at floating markets and 2 stops at handicraft markets (not floating) for tourists.there would have been more to see at floating markets than only one "water street" where all tourists are.

Excellent tour. Very enjoyable and unlike other tours which try to cramp too much, this was at an excellent pace and very enjoyable. Try not to do the floating market with anything else, so you can really enjoying it.

all good, only the two of us on the tour so it was better! the tour guide spoke excellent english. The tour wasnt too long only half day, not too boring- we enjoyed! Long tail boat through the canals was great, floating markets was colourful and different. We stopped at two places a wood carving factory was interesting, some carved pictured were amazing also stopped at a Coconut place, which was good to see how coconuts were used however the shop near it was overpriced and the usual tourist crap! but we didnt stay at these venues for long.. long enough to get a cool drink & a quick look. Viator was good from payment start to finish. thanks.

The guide couldn't speak a good english and it was to understand beside he took us to several shops even if we didn't rly want to go. The marked was nice, very busy. It s a shame the price of the actually boat to visit the market it s not inclueded in the price. Worth doing it anyway

Tour guide was great, didn't speak much English but he was helpful and imformative. We visited a sugar cane shop on the way, it was a majot tourist trap. Don't buy anything there, unless you like bargaining. I bought a pack of Wooden chopsticks there for 300 Baht, only to find the same pair at the Pratunam markets for 100. The Floating markets is a great experiance! Bring a hat and a bottle of water though because it gets very hot and humid. Be sure to buy some mangoes, they are delish! A very good day,

My second visit to the floating market - it was most disappointing. The guide did virtually nothing and he once just held up a handwritten sign saying "salt farms" as we drove to the site. The market has become very commercialised with stalls and we saw very little in the way of produce being sold from boats.

The Floating Markets are approximately 1 1/2 hours outside of Bangkok. I did enjoy the trip and did purchase a few trinkets. It does tend to get a bit congested on the canal so instead of renting space on a boat, I just walked around to the local shops. Beware that the shop/stall owners/operators can be aggressive.

This was a fantastic 12 day trip! Pickup from the hotel was about 15 minutes late, but we didn't mind at all, given Bangkok's morning traffic. The tour guide was funny and bright. The whole trip there was smooth. The road trip must have been about 1.5 hours or a little bit more. On the way up, we stopped at a couple of stops which are also good things to see. First, a coconut stop, second a wood stop. The markets were absolutely beautiful and the day was nice and sunny, not humid like the inner city, so bring some sunscreen! Take a boat ride up the and around the market if you wish for an extra cost per person, but it was very worth it! It just buzzes by and the colours and sights are beautiful! What I like about this tour was the extra time for us to wander around and take it all in.
