Girona and Costa Brava Small Group Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

On this day trip from Barcelona, you will visit the city of Girona in the north east of Catalonia before continuing to the Coastal region of Costa Brava. On this small group tour, you'll receive personalized attention from your guide.

Leaving Barcelona, you will head to Girona, a city with a long history, believed to be founded around 76 BC. The river Onyar neatly divides the city in two, separating the old town from the new. The city has a rich architectural heritage and you can see evidence of this in its the cathedral founded in 1038 an the Roman walls which you can stroll along when they are open or wander the narrow streets of the old town.

Continue to the Santuari dels Angels, this spot offers panoramic views of the whole Girona region and is the spot Salvador Dali chose for his wedding. From here you will make your way to Pals, a small city that grew from a fortress. Stop here for lunch before you head to the fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell.

The clean lines of the whitewashed houses here will be evident here and you'll have time to explore the rocky coastline or perhaps even take a dip in the inviting waters before returning to Barcelona.

Special Offer - Book and travel before June, 30 2012 and receive a FREE bottle of Spanish cava by presenting your voucher at the end of the tour at their office. - Book Now!

This trip was amazing- worth every $. All the visited places in this tour were beautiful! Definitely more than what I expected. Our group was so small (just me and another girl), that it seemed more like a private tour. Our tour guide was great!!!

The trip to Girona and Costa Brava was very good. Overall though we didn't have enough time in Girona. A bit more history and discussion would have been good from the guide during the driving but overall a good trip.

Our guide was fabulous and made an unscheduled stop so we could see the palace Dali built for his Gala. The Costa Brava is simply beautiful. The water is a very clear blue/green and warm enough for swimming. We didn't have snorkeling masks but bought them at a shop when we stopped at the beach. There were lots of fish to see very close to shore. A black bird, possibly a corcoran, swam underwater right past me. How often does anyone see that? Girona was a well-preserved medieval town which we enjoyed tremendously. If you can take only one excursion, this day trip is the one you should not miss.

This trip to Girona and Costa Brava was by far my best travel experience to date. I highly recommend this trip if you are looking for a small, private tour with a laid back energy. The sights were amazing and our tour guide, Ana, was absolutely perfect. Her knowledge of history is superb and she has a great sense of humor. I never go on tours when I travel, but the friend I was with convinced me to try this one and I will definitely use them again.

Relaxed tour of beautiful historical towns in gorgeous natural settings. Great recommendation for lunch by guide-- try the fish suquet dish. Guides were fun and so well informed! Liked the small mini van transport, rather than large bus.

This was an AMAZING tour. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. The fact that the group was small was a great! Our tour guide gave us 30 minutes of overview on each stop and we had the rest of the time to explore on our own.

Excellent. A wonderful guide (Adrien), extremely knowledgeable in so many areas, gave us a tour and the history of the area but we had time to view what we were most interested in (the Jewish quarter and museum in Girona) at our leisure, a beautiful stop and walk along the Costa Brava - we had a great day and would recommend this trip highly to friends.

The tour leader Anna was excellent. She was professional, knowledgeable, courteous and enthusiastic about her job. I had a great interest in visiting Girona, and Anna provided very detailed historical information, patiently answered all of my countless questions, and provided guidance for our small group through the maze of streets in the old city center. Many thanks to Anna for helping make this a memorable trip.

Girona and Costa Brava was an excellent day tour from Barcelona. Girona is a very beautiful city (the old part where you will tour) and the Cathedral is beautiful. We also went to a charmingly beautiful small town called Pals and then a stunningly beautiful coastal town on the Mediterranean called Calella de Palafrugell. Our guide was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire day. The tours are nice because the groups are small so it is a very enjoyable and intimate tour.

I loved the beach in Costa Brava (very pebbly and cool water, but more intimate than I expected. Lovely town. Girona reminded me very much of Sienna or other small European towns. Picturesque, but forgettable.

The last stop on the coast was breathtaking. Guide gives you brief history at each stop then lets you explore on your own which was great. Get a snack in Girona if you don't eat a big breakfast and have a nice late lunch at the last stop on the coast. Only complaint would be that the driver allowed passengers in front of the 3 row van to keep turning off the air despite more than one request from the back row to keep it on because it was very hot in the back of the van. Jump in the front of the van if you can!

Probably one of the most beautiful side trips out of Barcelona that we took. Had the same guide we had to the Pyrenees. She was wonderful and really knows her history. Had a wonderful meal in Calella. It was our last day in Spain before we headed home to the U.S., so we were really worn out when we got back to Barcelona.

It was a nice day trip, but it was mostly a shopping exhibition. The driver took you to each destination and then left you for a couple of hours, so you had to find something to do in each place not much to do other than eat or shop. It would be nice if you went to places that had history or something special about them.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Review by: Anonymous November 2009
Tour guide was excellent. They used a mini van and only a small number of travelers is the most pleasant way to go. This was a great way to get to Girona and the Costa Brava. The stop in between Girona and the Costa Brava was unnecessary. I would have liked more time on the Costa Brava and I would have preferred a more upscale town. The town we were in was very crowded and the beach was just OK. There were lots of restaurants to choose from.

What an excellent day trip. Our guide gave a wonderful presentation, shared a lot of personal experience, and had a great sense of humor. We were given maps and a lot of time to explore on our own which was so appreciated, as we were all well traveled and the Guide had a good read of this. The day was very hot, but the van was clean and cool. The trip was paced well covering the inland sites earlier in the day and then ending with a relaxing swim at a local spot and a delicious lunch on our own. This is a trip for individuals who have generally good mobility, as it involves a fair amount of walking and stairs. After several days at a Conference in Barcelona, this was the therapeutic antidote that made my business trip feel like a spa vacation.

We had an absolutely fantastic day, and I am really pleased we chose to do this. Our guide was brilliant - friendly, relaxed and informative. This day trip had the right mix of being guided through parts of each place we visited and then being left to explore at our own leisure, which suited us perfectly.

This tour comes highly recommended. An excellent value for the money; you won't be sorry if you book it. Our guide was fluent in English, intelligent, humorous, patient with my frequent idiotic and annoying questions, informative, extremely well versed in the history of our destinations and a very safe driver._br /__br /_I have read reviews by other travelers and was surprised to see the occasional complaint that the tour company was basically providing a transportation service. I would say that this is a product of one's expectations. Yes, it is true that the guide does not lead you around town by the nose, but who wants that anyway? We had ample opportunity to ask questions. Our guide gave us a walking map of Girona highlighting certain can't-miss attractions. I appreciated the recommendations and sought out those that sounded intriguing, but basically I followed my own path._br /__br /_I was so satisfied with my tour that I booked an excursion to Montserrat for my last day in Barcelona. My review of that itinerary would be the same as above.
