Girona, Figueres and Dali Museum Day Trip from Barcelona

Barcelona, Spain

Discover the Salvador Dali Museum at Figueres and the magical medieval town of Girona on a full-day trip from Barcelona. Figueres and Girona are two of the most famous attractions in northern Catalonia, making your visit to Barcelona complete. Best of all, this is a partially guided tour and you will have free time to spend at your leisure in both towns.

Stop at Figueres, hometown of Salvador Dali for free time to explore the city and lunch (additional charge). Next, enter the Salvador Dali Museum-Theatre (admission included!). You'll be amazed by the fascinating, surrealist world of Salvador Dali in his birthplace, Figueres. The Dali Theatre-Museum is the largest surrealistic object in the world, replacing the town's former Municipal Theatre which was destroyed in the Spanish Civil War. Not only is the museum an artwork in itself, it's also home to many famous works by Dali, one of the world's most famous surrealist artists.

You'll also visit the beautiful walled city of Girona, where you can enjoy a two-hour guided walking tour of the Jewish quarter - one of the best preserved in Europe. Girona was originally built by the Romans as a fortress, and the best way to explore the medieval town is to lose yourself in the alluring labyrinth of narrow streets which still reflect its two centuries of Moorish occupation. Explore the Arabian baths, a Roman building inspired by the Roman public baths with three pools, each with a different water temperature.

The overall day trip was okay, however, we were picked up in an older bus and in the beginning of the trip the bus driver drove fast. The local guide in Girona was good and the Dali Museum was worth seeing.

Girona and Figures were interesting and enjoyable. We took English language trip and found that it was English language and Spanish language which meant everything was said twice--Quite annoying. In addition, the Girona guide had a particularly poor grasp of the English language!

Excellent tour, we thoroughly enjoyed the informative guide and the walking tour of Girona with local guide was very interesting followd by the tour of Salvador Dali museum in Figueres which was fabulous. We felt it was a good mix with free time to also enjoy each place. Thanks for a wonderful day.

The tour group was too large, about 40-50 individuals, not lending itself to personal attention. The guide seemed to be speaking like a record, with a memorized speech and no personal anecdotes. The stop in Girona included a tour in which we were heralded from one stop to another, and told that if we wanted to explore more we must come back during our free time - so lent itself to very little information other than this is this and that is that. The Dali museum in Figueres rightly did not included a guided portion. However, it made me realize that I should have simply taken a train myself from Barcelona to Figueres to see the Dali museum on my own instead of paying the big bucks for this guided tour package.

The tour was excellent. The tour bus guide spoke both English and Spanish. The tour provided a tour book so you received a street layout of both cities. The first stop was Girona and the group was broken into 2 groups, English and Spanish which meant you didn't have to wait for the repeat of information for the other language group. We went on a walking tour of the city which was not rushed and there was ample free time after the tour to explore and go back to anything you may have wanted to look at closer and still have time for a nice short lunch. We then moved on to Figueres and the Dali Museum. There was ample time to go through the Dali museum. We do not to go and explore the city around the museum but there was time if you wanted to do that. The tour guide on the bus was very knowledgeable and asked every person if they had any questions before each stop and was very clear about the times to meet back up at the bus. It was well worth the money. And Dali was a crazy man!!!!!

We were quite disappointed in the Girona tour. We were rushed through the streets and did not have access to any sights in this tour. when asked about the rich Jewish heritage in this area the guide did not have the knowledge to speak about on the topic. This was disappointing to many on the tour with us. The stop at the Dali museum was very nice and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon at the museum. I would recomment the Dali trip to Figueres but the Girona trip was really a waste of time.

Overall, the trip was great. Girona was beautiful. The Dali Museum in Figueres was very interesting as well. However, my only complaint was that there was not enough time to spend in Girona (we were rushed) and there was way too much time spent at the Dali Museum. Most of the group was done and ready to leave the Dali Museum way before we had to meet the bus. I would have loved more time to sightsee in Girona.

Girona is a gem of a city located not far from Barcelona. It has its own history and background. Figures was especially memorable as it was close to our hearts because we have always valued Dali's work. The fact that we were able to go to his art and jewel museums was the highlight of this particular tour for us.

Fun trip but I didn't think the Girona guide was sufficiently informed about the history of Jews in Spain when we visited the Jewish quarter. He didn't even mention the Inquisition! The main guide was nice but totally obsessed about schedules. I would have liked to hear more content about sites we were passing or else just some quiet time on the bus. But it was a convenient way to see both places in a single day if you don't have a car.

This tour covered a lot in one day, but , if you are up for it, it is well worth it. Girona is is a delight. We had a wonderful tour guide, a native of Girona, who shared many wonderful stories about this delightful town. The visit to the Dali museum was amazing. Personally I am a big fan of Dali so I was in heaven - but even if you don't care for his work, you cannot help but be impressed by this amazing building and all that is in it. Our guide on the bus was great - very entertaining and informative. I really enjoyed this trip as did my fifteen year old daughter.

Guides (on bus and locations) were great. Tour size did not bother us as everyone splits up during the free time period. Girona was a charming small town. Just enough time to walk around. Perhaps a little more time would have been nice - like an extra 30 minutes. Figueres was nuts - as we got there in the afternoon and it was loaded with people to see the Dali Museum. It was tiring to work your way through the masses. We opted an extra $5 Euros for a private guide to walk us through the museum and I think that is a must. Otherwise you just get lost in the helter skelter craziness of working your way through the crowds and having no idea of the significance of any of Dali's art work. Getting in was no wait because we had the guide - the area was just crowded. If I go again, I would go in the morning as I would hope the crowds would be lesser. We were there in mid-July on a weekday. But we still really enjoyed the trip and also had time to walk around the immediate area and buy gifts and spend time in the museum gift shop as well. Maybe an extra 30 minutes here would help if you wanted to see more than just the museum.

Great trip. Girona was a very pleasant diversion. Only one problem which is not Viator's fault: there was a mentally-ill employee in the jewelry exhibit who physically attacked my spouse and me because we unknowingly tried to go out the "in" revolving door. Why? It's a REVOLVING door! Anyway, she needs help.

I am a college student and I convinced my two friends to go with me. We enjoyed the trip! We did our own exploring in Girona, and enjoyed the cute shops and pretty view by the river. We thought the tour spent too much time there though, and not enough time in the Dali museum. I loved the Dali museum! I could have spent another hour there. It is crowded so be prepared, but it's not too bad. Our guide was nice but since we understand English and Spanish, it was a little annoying listening to both, but not a big deal. I'd definitely recommend it because figuring out your own transportation there is a hassle.

The trip started and ended fairly in time (5 minutes margin). The bus was comfortable. The bus guide was nice and professional._br/_ Girona: to be fair, the town deserves an entire day visit. This is a great place with a lot to see. We enjoyed the 90 minute tour around the old town. The guide (different from the tour guide) was knowledgeable and interesting. Worth the time. Plan ahead what you want to visit and where you want to eat. You only have 2 hours of free time before the bus leaves for Figueres. Spending an extra 30 min. in Girona would have been just right._br/_ Figueres: Only one worthy attraction, the Dali Museum, but well worth it! You will spend 2:30 hours in Figueres. The guide claims you need 1:30 hours to visit the Dali Museum and another 15 minutes for the Jewelry. If you just walk around the place, then that is about the right time. My spouse and I enjoy watching the art, and we barely had time to finish the museum.

This is a mixed review.. Figueres was fabulous. The museum was spectacular and met all of my expectations. Our bus tour guide was excellent. It was amazing how he could go back and forth from English to Spanish. Unfortunately, the tour guide we had in Girona was not so great. It was a very hot day and we were not aware that there would be so much uphill walking. The Jewish museum was a plus. Unfortunately there was not enough time to visit the film museum too. The tour bus was not the most comfortable and the trip did not end where we started from.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Girona and to the Dali Musuem in Figueres. In Girona, we had a lovely walking tour of the old walled city and then we had almost a hour of explanation of the Jewish hisotry of Girona during the pre-1492 era. Our guide Anna was quite interesting and very knowledgeable. Our bus guide Carlos was very informative as well. The Dali museum was fascinating- quite the surreal experience. It was a highlight of our trip to Spain and I would definitely recopmmend it.

Both cities were worth going to and Girona deserved more time. On our trip day we had two lucky occurrences: in Girona they were having their flower festival and in Figueres they had a "dance of the giants" parade in the afternoon. The Dali museum was amazing.

The trip to Girona was very nice. If you like getting 'lost' in narrow alleys, and stopping at every corner to take pictures of the beautiful alley-ways, with sunlight streaming down, you must go! It was definitely worth my time. The DalĂ museum was very nice indeed. Awesome expositions. (We did not visit "Figueres" though. The museum is in Figueres but we didn't walk around the town).

Your tour guide was not as equipped as well as I would have hoped for this tour. The sub tour of Girona was lacking in detail and was somewhat a disappointment that we didn't have enough time in Girona. The Dali Museum in Figueres is interesting but you NEED to take one hr from this tour and give it to the Girona tour! Not enough time is spent in Girona and too much time in Figueres which is as boring to see past the museum tour!

Highly recommended tour, the only problem which caused a bit of inconvnience, was that we were forced to cover a distance from hotel to the local agent just to issue the tickets and then back to the tour's shuttle terminal. I mean it would be a simple solution to give the Viator voucher directly to the shuttle terminal instead of doing all the running by ourselves. Or at least have a delivery to our hotel...
