After your pickup from your Bayeux hotel, head out on your private day tour to your first stop, Mont Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and undoubtedly one of Normandy's most spectacular attractions. Mont Saint-Michel is a rocky island just off the coast of Normandy. The well-preserved abbey from which the island takes its name dates back to the 8th century, and since then, buildings in many architectural styles have been added to the island, resulting in a diverse collection of architecture that you will explore as you walk through the winding streets. Visit the abbey's ramparts, and then browse the shops and stop by the island's museum. Make sure to also take in the views over the bay.Next, your tour will take you to the walled town of Saint-Malo, where you will walk along the ancient streets of the old citadel, ringed by high walls. From the walls, enjoy spectacular views of the port and beyond to the Atlantic - the same views that hometown boy and 16th-century explorer Jacques Cartier, who discovered Newfoundland, surely admired. Then visit one of the creperies and treat yourself to a crepe - try the regional specialty, a galette bretonne (a buckwheat pancake with a savory filling). There are also numerous restaurants where you can enjoy lunch (own expense); try the seafood of the region, fresh from the fishermen's morning catch.
