This spectacular Berlin walking tour will lead you into the bizarre realm of the interior of a blasted air raid shelter from the days of World War II. Flak Towers (Anti Aircraft Towers) had been built in Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna between 1941 and 1943 and you will be able to explore two of the original 7 floors of Berlin's largest bunker complex. Climb down from the top of the tower via the only remaining staircase and learn more about the historic background of these huge grey monsters in the inner districts of the biggest Cities of the Third Reich. They were part of am ambiguous construction program directed by Adolf Hitler himself to supply the civil population with shelter places.

Up to 50 000 people stayed in the lower levels of each of the big flak towers and the upper levels were reserved to military action. Be prepared to look into the abyss of a former ammunition elevator and thanks to a solid and safe steel construction, no one needs to suffer from altitude sickness! Now, the Flak Towers has been transformed from a shelter for human beings into a habitation for some of the most mysterious creatures of the night. Bats do use the inner halls during the winter season for their hibernation which means that the shelter is closed to the public from November to the end of March. Towards the end of the tour you will learn a little bit of how these flying mammals really live.

The visit to the flak tower was well worth it, however I felt that more emphasis/explaination of where we were within the structure should have been made as opposed to a lot of history surrounding construction and the war in general being given out. That said, the guide was very knowledgeable.

Really great tour and the guides were very helpful, but I would have liked to film the tour talk but was told I wasn't allowed to. It would have been helpful to remember all the facts we were told.

This is a must see tour in Berlin. It is a very impressive. The tour is provided by the Berlin Unterwelten (Underground) preservation association volunteers. I recommend it.

Excellent tour in all respects. The guide (Mr. Williams) was very knowledgeable and informative and the tour covered everything that I wanted. If you have any interest in this aspect of Berlin during the war, take this tour -- it's well worth it.

Ray Cooper and Jimmy Merner from England.Our tour was excellent.Our guide gave a superb talk,in fact she never really stopped talking only to answer questions.She made the tour interesting and at times very amusing.I am an amateur historian and learnt many things I didnt know.The flak tower is amazing and the work done by the Unterwelten organization to clear the rubble and to mke it available to the public is only just short of a miracle.Please keep up the good work.If I have a crtiticism it would be the books for sale are only in German which is a pity as some of them I would liked to have purchased.Hopefully this will be remedied soon.Overall 10/10 We come to Berlin every year and will certainly do more underground tours.One tip to all on this tour wear warm clothes,thankfully we did but others in shorts and T shirts wish they had.When they say it will be 10 degrees they mean it.Dont miss this tour.

We had a fascinating underground tour under the expert guidance of tour guide, who was so interesting and knowledgeable. The group was encouraged to ask questions and made to feel very included in the trip. This is an absolute must for anyone interested in Berlin history. We were sorry when the visit came to an end.
