Berlin's Infamous Third Reich Sites Half-Day Walking Tour

Berlin, Germany

You'll gain essential insights into Berlin's Nazi past on this enlightening walking tour of the infamous Third Reich sites. Accompanied by your knowledgeable walking guide, you'll tour Berlin from Wilhelmstrasse to the former Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse and the site of Hitler's bunker.

The once elegant Wilhelmstrasse and the surrounding streets gained a terrifying reputation during the Third Reich. On Wilhelmplatz, propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels transformed an 18th-century palace into the sinister Propaganda Ministry.

Off the same square, Hitler built his intimidating New Reichschancellery, and close by there's the bunker where he committed suicide. Goering built the monumental Air Ministry on Wilhelm Strasse, while Himmler's SS and Gestapo headquarters turned Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse into the most feared address in the Third Reich.

On this walking tour you'll learn about those who struggled against the Nazi system of terror, the devastation of Berlin by aerial bombing, the Soviet-led battle of Berlin and the final attack on the Reichstag.

Concluding above the Hitler's bunker, this tour strips away the myths and exposes sensationalist reporting about other shelters found in the area.

We took our 14 year old son with us. It was not lots of walking but we did stand a lot. The guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable. The way he laid out the history for us as we moved to various sites was impartial and very informative and interesting. It was a bit cold to stand outside for so long so rug up. Well worth the effort. We had seen Dachau and aim to visit more WW2 sites.

We were very pleased with this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, easy to understand, expert in his grasp of the events and it was a totally excellent experience. We would recommend it to anyone interested in this history of WWII. Our question was why did we meet at the Zoo when the tour began several miles from there. Otherwise, a five star event.

This tour is what it is. If you are expecting to see any remains of the third reich you will be mistaken. It really is a tour guide telling you about the third reich with some old photos because so few actual sites remained.

Forest was a very good guide. The only thing is that this tour is not really needed if you do the Berlin half day tour. The Berlin half day tour summarizes everything in 4 hours, whereas this tour concentrates on the Third Reich only, so you do notice that you are seeing and hearing things you already did on the other tour. Nevertheless, the guide was excellent and enjoyable.

This is a somewhat surrrealist tour as there is little left standing to see, most of the times you have to imagine - here was the propaganda ministry, here the Gestapo, here the Chancelry, and below here - in a car park - there was the bunker! However, the guide (Mort) was excellent and did his best to give us a series of history vignettes stopping here and there, and aid our imagination.

We went with Mort on this tour. Mort made the subject come alive. Although many of the sights no longer exist, he had pictures with him and was able to tell the story in such a way that the history came alive. He was very patient with our questions and gave us some unique personal perspective. We would recommend the tour.

Our guide was excellent and very informative. We could have saved a lot of time if we knew we could have met the guide at the starting point which was 2 blocks from the Sony Center where we were staying. Instead we took a taxi and then had to buy a bus ticket back to the area we had just left. A lot of extra money was spent doing that. The arrangements on these tours to meet is not good.

To be honest the tour content was fine, but the particular guide we had was not to our liking. She seemed to have a particular political agenda and was more concerned with getting her political views across than information on the buildings and sites themselves. I also noted a few points which I believed were inaccurate. I appreciate that there is a political tilt to this tour, but I wasn't particularly interested in the guide's own political views. _br/_ I think if we had had a different guide then the rating would be higher as length and content of the tour was fine, I just wanted to know more detail about the area and buildings.

Our tour guide Forrest was most informative on all the historical data that surrounds many of the sights. Highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in history, you will not be disappointed as Forrest's first passion is German history and facts. Best walking tour in Berlin if you want to know what happened during WWI and WWII.

We took 4 walking tours of Berlin and this was our favorite! The guide Mort had a lot to do with it. He was extremely knowledgeable about historical facts, landmarks and also shared many personal anecdotes that truly enhanced the experience. Booking through Viator made things really easy and there were absolutely no issues or confusion once on site. Very highly recommended.

Excellent Tour! The guide was knowledgeable and great. The tour gives a great sense of what central Berlin was like 70 years ago and shows what is still to be found today. Everything is explained clearly and linked into the history of the Third Reich. As a teacher I am planning to bring A-Level students on this tour next year.

Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and we were so afraid we missed the tour but made it in the nick of time. If you do not have a train ticket with you the guide will sell one to you. It is better if you already have it though. Be warned these walking tours are fast paced, so good walking shoes and bottled water are a must. Overall we learned a lot about Berlin's history and would definitely recommend this tour to others. The guide brings a binder with incredible pictures and you are welcome to take pictures of them yourself. This is a plus as many of the sites you look at have changed significantly over the decades. Great tour for WWII history buffs!

With no pre-conceived idea how this was going to be my 11 year old son and myself embarked on this trip from the meeting point. Met by guide and after a short introduction away we went. I just have to report that it was the best tour ever with the guide being just so informative and a real expert in her field. My 11 year old son was so impressed with the tour as was I and the way it was conducted that we went on the Sachenhausen Concentration Camp tour the next day which was also equally enjoyable. Because the tours were given in English it made it a much more enjoyable experience also. Not prone to writing reviews I just had to write this up and once again a huge thank you to the guide for making our trip to Berlin so memoriable.
