Potsdam Half-Day Trip from Berlin

Berlin, Germany

Discover Potsdam, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city, on a half-day trip from Berlin. Once home to Prussian royalty, the city is renowned for its elegant palaces and stately homes. You'll see the Rococo-style Sanssouci Palace, the Roman Baths and other Potsdam attractions on this fascinating half-day tour.

Departing from central Berlin, you'll travel by luxury air-conditioned coach to the city of Potsdam, capital of the German State of Brandenburg.  Often referred to as Germany's most beautiful city, Potsdam is steeped in European history and royal tradition, giving it a cultural ambience that is rarely found elsewhere.

During your Potsdam sightseeing tour you'll see the Dutch Quarter (Hollandisches Viertel) and the Russian Colony (Alexandrowka), both important historical sections of the city. Further famous Potsdam sights that your tour will pass include the impressive Sanssouci Palace, Charlottenhof Palace and Orangery Palace.

After your audio-guided tour ends, you'll have time to spend at leisure in the Sanssouci Gardens.  If time permits, enjoy lunch at a local Potsdam restaurant to have lunch, or visit one of the palaces in the Sanssouci Garden (for an extra cost) before returning to Berlin.

The bus trip was good - but unfortunately so much time was taken driving us round Potsdam not enough time was left to see the Palaces. We were told if we went to the New Palace we wouldn't have time to see the Sans Souci Palace - and when we arrived there, we were told we could see the Palace or the gardens, but not enough time for both. The place where the historic Potsdam Conference was held was pointed out - hidden behind trees. We would LOVE to have walked there but were not given the option. So all we saw were the Sans Souci Palace gardens. The map was useless - we wanted to see Frederick's grave but no indication of where it was. We were bitterly disappointed with the tour as we basically were not given the chance to see what we wanted to see. Apart from looking around it was almost a complete waste of time and money.

The tour description should be more clear that you can pick up the tour at 9:30 or 10:30 and the 4 hours begins after the 10:30 pick-up. The tour was enjoyable, however the bus driver was abrupt and rude. When I showed up with my online voucher she pretty much only wanted to speak in German demanding that I have a ticket. It would have been nice if she had said, let me exchange your paid up voucher for a ticket. Also when we stopped for 25 minutes before the 10:30 pick-up she didn't offer any comments such as there are coffee shops around the corner, etc. Again, abrupting/rudely -- "we leave in 25 mins in bus". Also provided no help on how to plug in the audio sets. Maybe Berliners just don't understand good customer service.

Had not realized that the timing of the trip was from Charlottenberg and not Alexanderplatz - trip took 6 hours not 4 or 4.5 as expected and therefore we lost the afternoon activities we had planned. Needs to be made clearer to those who do not know berlin beforehand._br/_ Driver also announced trip ended at Charlottenberg and suggested we made our own way back to Alexanderplatz as we were the only ones left in the bus.- did take us back when we expressed surprise and upset about the suggestion of taking the train back to our starting point. _br/_ Also waited in the cold to be picked up as the bus did not move up to the startng point until almost when the bus was due to depart - not 15 minutes ahead of time as we were asked tobe there. bus driver had parked 100 mtrs away._br/_ journey to Potsdam also longer than expected - says 45 minutes - which we had assumed form pick up - but according to audio tape appeared to be formt eh outskirts of berlin and not even from Charlotenberg - misleading._br/_ Much pf Potsdam placae grounds also closed for renovations - not flagged up in the information.

Quite good for what it is. The bus takes you to Potsdam and there is onboard commentary via headphones. You get to spend a couple of hours at Sanssouci. Inexpensive.

Nice introduction to Potsdam for those who have never been. However, we missed our bus cause the instructions did not clearly state which entrance the meeting point was at. We ended up catching a taxi to the next departure point.

There was no guide on this tour only audio recording. The driver did not speak English. The tour bus has two stop locations one each in east and west Berlin. Make sure to find the nearest one._br/_ Potsdam is very beautiful. I like the park more than the palace :)!

Good service, although too fast. It could be a 5 hour tour with no problem, but to make it a 4 hour tour makes things superficial and "here was ....and here on our left you saw ...." Run ....

The trip was good, but we spent most of the trip being rushed. I would rather pay a couple of Euro more in order to have maybe six hours in total in order to visit Potsdam for a short while and the site of the Wicker Chairs. Our guide, Kevin Kennedy, was very knowledgeable and Sansoucci was pleasant, but be prepared to spend most of your time on the coach.

The guide in Potsdam/Sanssouci was good but the remainder of the trip was terrible. First, a number of us were told our tickets were for a 1pm departure from Alexanderplatz. The bus driver drove us to Ku'damm where we waited for 1 hour for another group! What a waste. Why not have said there was only one departure point? There was nothing on the website/ticket that indicated this. On the return, the bus driver decided he would only stop at Ku'damm, leaving the Alexanderplatz passengers to find their way home. Not very good.

Sansouci is a small but beautiful palace. I took a couple of others tours by City Discovery in Berlin which were good but this particular day the bus was not equipped with headphones so you could not hear the taped commentary. When the driver was asked about the problem, he seemed disinterested. The hop-on guide did the minimum without enthusiasm. I would recommend the excursion however with more emphasis on Potsdam. Viatour--- you should provide better information on departures; the tour does not depart Alexanderplatz everyday as you indicated. Although pickup is Friday and Saturdays at 1:15pm ,you wait 30 minutes at the Ku-dam pick-up stop giving you a little over an hour to get to and from the bus and tour the castle; Potsdam is ignored or perhaps that was detailed in the missing audio.

The coach was difficult to find as it did not depart from the company kiosk as stated in the voucher I received, nor from the "ticket sale van at the end of the road" as the sign on the kiosk said. The lady managing the van gave me very poor directions to the bus which was several blocks away and I only identified it by asking the drivers of other tour buses that were in the vicinity. Also, it was clear that the German commentary on the bus going to Potsdam was very much more detailed than the English translation and serveral people on the tour complained about the lack of English being spoken. This resulted in a more balanced presentation inside the Palace, though there was at least on more complaint in my hearing. Overall it was a good tour but I felt I could easily have missed it due to incorrect and poor directions to the pick up point and the tour itself could have been improved by a greater use of English.

The meeting point and the pick-up point were different and not clearly defined by the person present at the meeting point. The tour though the village was informative but would have been much better if there were some stops to at least take some photos. Only one guide was available. The palace and the garden are worth a visit and so is the village. If the trip could be made about 60 minutes longer it could be much improved to be a 'Highly Recommended' trip

A good day out which worked well even though we were delayed on the outward journey because of May Day demonstations in Berlin. It was interesting to hear about Potsdam and its role in the history of the second world war and its forbidden city and Sanssucci Palace and grounds were beautiful. Our guide gave us a good history of the town and palace, as well as some up-to-date information and managed to keep us on schedule despite the delay - Kevin Kennedy. Overall a very enjoyable day out to this pretty area.

It was unexpectedly not just in English. The guide didn't get in the bus until before Sanssouci so we did not get much from Potsdam. The woman tried hard enough but we mostly needed to rush and she seemed exhausted. Better with 1 language and guide who comes from Berlin.

One cant believe how much of Berlin and Potsdam is being rebuilt and regenerated. In years to come Potsdam will be an entirely different tour with and entirely different scene. Once again the guide was very informative and had pictures and props to better explain certain areas of the tour. The only down side was that she was quietly spoken and her accent was very heavy, more easily understood when face to face but not so over a PA in the bus. The Sanssouci palace is much more beautiful in the spring and summer, but knew that and it is still lovely and peaceful at this time of year. An interesting place and well worth seeing. An easy day out, use it as a relax day.

Had a wonderful guide in Postdam! Took forever to pick up all the bus passengers though. Should have only 1 central meeting point, so you don't waste an hour of the tour driving around Berlin.

In going to Potsdam we hit a real traffic jam out of Berlin. It probably took us an extra 12 hour to get there. Well, the tour of the city of Potsdam took the brunt of that delay. We went by the highlights of the city so quickly that I couldn't even take pictures. The tour of Sanssouci Palace was terrific I guess we made up the lost time in the city.

Good trip; however, it would have been better if we had spent more time at Sanssouci and less time on the bus. To explore the gardens at Sanssouci would have been nice. Our guide spoke in German first and then repeated in English, which meant half of our time was spent listening to a language which we didn't understand, and it was time consuming.
