Ghent and Bruges Day Trip from Brussels

Discover two of Flanders' special gems on a full day trip to Ghent and Bruges. No visit to Belgium is complete without a visit to these two beautiful cities, just a short drive from Brussels.

After a one-hour drive through the scenic Belgium countryside you'll arrive in Ghent. Here you will visit the St. Bavo Cathedral, home of the world-famous "Mystic Lamb" painting (optional, closed on Sunday).

During your city tour of Ghent you will see important buildings from the Middle Ages, such as the Belfry, the St. Nicolas Church and the Castle of the Counts of Flanders.

Next, while driving through the Flemish countryside to Bruges, you can hear an audio history of Flanders, Ghent and Bruges via headphones. Upon arrival in Bruges, you'll visit the Lake of Love (Minnewater) and the Beguinage (convent). Take advantage of some free time to enjoy lunch (not included) before you start a walking tour to discover: Our Lady Church with a statue by Michelangelo, the Market Square with the Belfry, and the Town Hall Square (Burg) with the Chapel of the Holy Blood.

After the walking tour you can take an optional boat cruise along the canals. You will depart Bruges at approximately 6:30pm.

I have nothing but laudatory praises for this trip and the people responsible for organizing it. The cities were beautiful, the tour went exactly as planned in the itinerary (for people who worry about all the little details like me), and the tour guide (and bus driver) were wonderfully nice people. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone; it is most certainly worth the price.

This is absolutely a must when visiting Belgium; the only thing I wished was to have more time to spend in both cities, so for those who can afford the time maybe it would be a good idea to make separate trips as well. As it is, you will have to choose, either you take a boat trip in Bruges or visit some memorable museums, or have lunch, or do some shopping, no way you can fit them all in.

Both Ghent and Bruggges are wonderful places and our guide was extremely knowledgable and spoke 3 languages. The bus comfortable. However both cities cannot be experienced in the one day. On arrival in Brugges we were encouragd to have lunch for an hour and a half leaving little or no time to explore Brugges. I would suggest if going to see these cities take a tour that does them seperately.

Excellent day trip and we got to see the 2 most beautiful cities in Belgium! Our talented tour guide was knowlegeable and very funny - he made it all the more interesting. Although we felt like could've spent more time in both cities, we were able to see the best of them while we were there. The place our guide took us to for lunch was awesome, the beef stew in beer sauce was yummy. The coach ride was really comfortable. Highly recommend this tour if you only have limited time in Belgium!

The logistic and puntuality of Viator is great, however my perception is that the guide is really tired of doing his job, so his explanation were brief and not precise, since before I went there I read a guide and more precise information was included in my little book guide. My opinion is that the guide is bored, thus his tour guide is boring as well. Bruges is a beatiful and lovely please!

Best guided tour I have ever had in Europe. Guide was very helpful and knowledgebale about the places and shared lots of information about the tour. I would definitely like to tour many such guided tours with Viator if they have such people in their team

The tour guide reminded us of a Mad Professor but he knew all the interesting facts and was guiding in 4 languages. we woulld have loved to have had more time in both towns but the tour did cover the essential sights in the time span allotted. We particularly enjoyed the boat ride. we certainly wouldn't have lnown the best value restaurant and chocolatier in bruges without a guide. what enhanced the trip was getting on well with our fellow travellers from around the world.

Nice day trip ... Both cities were picturesque. Would suggest that travellers be allowed to make their own lunch arrangements in Bruges so that there is more time to wander around. Guide was excellent.

Well worth it! Fully guided tour with free time to explore the towns on your own. Our guide was excellent and spoke perfect English. The only thing that I wasn't impressed was the lunch venue, food was average and service wasn't that great, minimum 20 Euro to use card payment, what a nonsense, but you don't have to eat there if you don't want to. Overall it was great tour and I highly recommend it!

Ghent and Bruges are beautiful. Our tour guide was a little dry, but he gave us some interesting information. Time in both places to walk around and take pictures. Definitely walk over St. Michael's bridge while you're in Ghent for picturesque views.

Very well organised trip. Nice to have hotel pick up. Excellent guided walking tours of Ghent and Bruges. I would have liked to have spent a bit more time in Ghent (and had time for eg to visit the castle) and less in Bruges. Both are beautiful, old towns with a number of canals but not as many as I was expecting. Would have liked the company to hand out a tourist map of both towns and a list of various museums, shops etc and provide a bit more info for the free time we had especially in Bruges.

The trip was wonderful. I was picked up at my hotel on time and was returned on time in a comfortable coach bus. Both the guide and the driver were courteous, polite, professional and very helpful. There was plenty of free time for shopping balanced with information on the two towns. The guide, spoke multiple languages and provided interpretation in English, Spanish and French.. I would take this tour again.

Great trip! Brussels City Tours was well organized and friendly. The tour guide was very friendly and well educated on the history of the different sights. Ghent and Bruges were beautiful cities and we could have easily spent the entire day in either location. Due to all of the history at both cities, I felt a little rushed to get through everything. The location that the tour guide recommended for lunch had good food, but plan on spending a minimum of 25 euros per person. The boat cruise was worth the 6 euros per person. Overall this tour was a great value...

This was one of the best tours that I have been on. Bruges and Ghent are beautiful cities and are worth the visit! I think it is a must. The only bad thing about this tour is that this operator never leaves on time so 9AM departure will turn out to be 930 AM but it was still a great tour.
