Budapest City Walking Tour

Budapest, Hungary

Get your bearings and see the sights on a 3.5-hour small-group walking tour of Budapest. Escorted by an expert English-speaking guide, you'll see all the highlights including numerous UNESCO World heritage sites as Heroes' Square and The Buda Castle, plus unexpected gems on this fascinating walking tour of magical Budapest. You'll also enjoy a break with two traditional Hungarian pastries and a hot drink. Numbers are limited to 20 people on this small-group walking tour of Budapest, ensuring you'll receive personalized attention from your guide.

Your private guide will lead you accross the city of Budapest, full of UNESCO World Heritage sites. Starting at the Opera House, your walking tour begins with a short ride on the Millennium metro out to Heroes' Square and City Park. A walk through the park then takes you to the Vajdahunyad Castle complex, built for the world Expo in 1896 in typical Hungarian designs. Next stop is the Szechenyi bath house (peek inside when open) before taking the Millennium metro back to the city center.

Continuing on, the walking tour stops at St. Stephen's Basilica before passing the areas of Deak and Elizabeth square.

It will then the time for you to have a break in a typical Hungarian cafe where you will enjoy a hot drink and two delicious strudel pastry called retes.

Next, you'll follow tiny streets towards the city center walking district, stopping at Ferenciek Square to view the amazing architecture. Take a short stroll along the Vaci walking street then head down to the riverside's famous Danube Promenade. As you walk along, take in the spectacular views of Gellert Hill and the Citadel, Buda Hills and the Buda Castle District.

Stop outside the Vigado, the former municipal hall, then make the most of a picturesque photo opportunity of the little princess before crossing the famous Chain Bridge.

For the final part of the tour, you'll climb the steps to the Royal Palace in the Buda Castle District, then walk through the old cobblestone streets and alleys to the tour's finishing point in front of the Matthias church and Fisherman's Bastion.

At the conclusion of the tour, your guide can provide tips, directions and more to help you make the most of your time in Budapest.

I booked my walking tour a few days before going to Budapest with my wife and all information given was correct. We contacted the local agent in Budapest, in-fact the office was very close to our hotel and the three hour plus walk, with a very lovely and knowledgeable local guide was a great experience and also a lovely end to our short break. The guide spoke excellent English and we were lucky that it was only the three of us. I highly recommend anyone to use these service.

Our guide was Barbara and she was wonderful - a value for money walking tour - I would have rate a 5 except 1 piece of incorrect info. - i.g. location of the The Shoe Monument -monument on the embankment outside Parliament.

Overall the trip was very enjoyable and was a great way to get acquainted with the city. However, unfortunately our guide must have been new (that's all I can figure) because she sent us to the wrong side of the river to view the "bronze shoe" memorial. Pretty big mistake to tell her clients to go to the Buda side of the river, when the memorial is on the Pest side. In addition, she didn't seem to know much about the things to do in town as she grew up elsewhere. She also had difficulty getting her English words out so things got a bit confused in general. I would still recommend the tour, but I also recommend the guides get a bit more training and actually know the city before giving a tour. They should take the other tours, boat rides, etc. as well. It is good experience so they can give recommendations.

Walk was interesting but was a little disappointed in the information from the guide. Knowledgeable but wasn't that extra over and above when someone really knows and loves their city.

Tour was okay. Guide had a accent and was hard to understand. Guide did not talk loud enough as those of us in the back could not hear even if we could of understood. I usually tip the guides but 3 stars is tip enough.

Very insightful, worth while. Me and my partner went back to sites for a more in depth walk around. A bit rushed as you do a lot in the three hours, photo opportunity there. a defo for ground oriantation and seeing some of the sights that you might have missed. Guide spoke very good English.

Very worthwhile - we wouldnt have thought there was much to Budapest if it wasn't for this tour. We are particularly greatful for being shown the famous cake shop 'Gerbauds', which we went back to twice and absolutely loved.

I had fun, walking with others who braved weather along the River Duna. Thanks to the walking tour, I could wander around the city more intensively later that day. Our guide was good with time management, too.

Excellent excursion, especially with Viator 50% discount. Be prepared, there is a LOT of walking, but educational, and from a knowledgeable guide. 2 trips on Metro included. Only problem was that the temperature was in the 40s, so by the time it came to scale the castle walls, I decided a visit to a Spa was the better option. Thoroughly recommended.

Nearly missed the walk as although we were waiting in the designated place the guide did not identify herself or had a list of clienrts to refer to (unlike our guide in Amsterdam) The young, very fit guide set a cracking pace and we struggled to keep up in the 40 degree heat. We "lost" several of us on the way either to heat exhaustion or simply getting lost as she did not keep tabs of the number in the group. The area covered, commentary and rail trips would have provided a good introduction to Budapest but was spoled by the lack of consideration of the guide.

Tchibo was a very good guide. Very informative and enthusiastic. The tour was about 4 hours and really does give you a very nice look into Budapest. The only thing was that was had to wait for 40 mins in the main office half way through the tour while our guide counted the money. The guide and the tour nevertheless was thoroughly enjoyable and the price is unbeatable. 2 Metro tickets are also included in the price which makes this an amazing bargain.

I recently had this tour, 20th June, 2011....turned up at Deac Terr and had to ask a few people hanging around if this was it, I would suggest a badge or something for the tour guide. Anyway, great tour, very knowledgeable guide, great value for money since it was 1/2 price, but I did notice if you turn up and offer to pay, it is the same price £7.50, approx 2200huf.

Good almost great tour. Well worth taking. Guide knowledgeable, but not as personable as other viator guides. Be aware that the tour includes subway rides and a strenuous though not impossible climb to the castle district.

Walking trip was fun and informative -Ii was with a group 0f 30+ Swedish youngsters so it was also very energetic trying to keep up with them. Saw the basic sights and the tour gave a good overview of both sides of Budapest. It made it easy to go back to the sights that interested me and revisit them in depth. Recommended for a good overview of the city.

We weren't sure our trip was going to happen. Our guide didn't show up and another one was promised in 30 minutes. While we were waiting the biker trip got cancelled that day because the guide didn't show up. We were getting the picture that the guides weren't highly reliable. But when we did get underway, it was a great overview of the city and the substitute guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We saw a lot of the main highlights of the city that we went back to the next day. great price and value!

Our guide did a wonderful job of showing the most interesting Budapest sites while also sharing some of her our personal history as a resident of Budapest. The trip wisely included travel to various sites via metro, enabling us to see more in the 3 hour plus trip. The guide's personality was ranged between charming and delightful, always filled with a joyous smile. The only recommendation we would have is to make it easier to see where the group gathers at the beginning of the trip. Enjoy the best that Budapest has to offer, from the past and the present.

Excellent overview of the city, thoroughly enjoyable. Extremely knowledgeable and helpful guide. Long climb at the end, very enjoyable for those who can manage it. There is a bus (#16) which can take those who can't make the climb for about $1.75. Suggest that tour guide offer this as an option and have bus tickets available for sale.

Our group was relatively small (only 6 people, plus our guide, Anna) so the tour was quite enjoyable, especially since Anna was very knowledgeable about the Hungary's history and culture. During the tour, we not only got to know the important sights and structures in Budapest, but also learned about the language, food, and the Hungarian people. The pace of the tour was relaxing and there was enough time to take photos and savor the sights. This is one tour that is really worth the money spent!
