Danube Bend Day Trip from Budapest

Budapest, Hungary

Take an excursion into Hungary's history on this popular Danube Bend full day trip. Traveling by air-conditioned coach, you'll visit the gorgeous old towns of Visegrad, Esztergom and Szentendre, enjoy a three-course lunch and take a River Danube cruise - a highlight of any trip to Hungary!

The day trip takes you to Visegrad, with its medieval citadel and romantic ruins of the former royal residence. Then it's on to Esztergom for an interior visit of the town's famous cathedral.

After enjoying a three-course lunch with coffee, you will continue on to the Baroque artists' village of Szentendre. Here you'll take a guided walk through the town and visit the Caprice Hungarian Jewelry Center, followed by coffee and soft drinks.

Your tour returns to Budapest by boat on the River Danube (May 01 to September 30 only, tide permitting). During other times or at low tide the tour returns to the city center by bus.

Great Trip, but to many Languages (3) one or to_br/_ would be alright. You get Hotel pick up but have_br/_ to make your own way back to Hotel._br/_ I didn't like that i had to reconfirm by Phone after i booked and payed for in advance.

Good tour. Food only ok and no need to go to diamond exposition that has nothing to do with the tour. Guide really good.

Our party of 5 enjoyed the Danube Bend Day Trip. The tour guide was very good and delivered the information in 3 different languages. We did not like the last stop at the jewelry factory. There was no historic value to that stop and I felt was not pertinent with the other stops of the tour. They picked us up from our hotel right on time and the bus was very comfortable.

The trip was great, the weather was nice in October. The view of the restaurant was breathtaking. We didn't have to stay at the diamond factory long. We had plenty of time for shopping at the last town and went back to Budapest by boat. Tour guide was nice and caring, and she spoke English very well.

a great tour, Delighted to see esthergom , its cathedral and views, would like to have seen a little of the town of Visegrad, even a drive through. An excellent guide. Both tours were very well organised, no trouble about pick up at hotel. Meal and company on both tours lovely. Thank you so much

This was a good tour but could have been much better. I thought the time spent going to Caprice was wasted. I'm not sure how many tourists want to spend thousands of dollars on diamonds in the short time available.

The guide was very good. Not sure why we stopped at a diamond store (waste ot time) but rest of the trip was good. Boat was not a luxury ship but was a commuter boat that had no beverages and when we docked, we had to walk thur another boat. Lunch location was very scenic and food was tasty, Disappointed that there was limited time in Szentendre- would have liked more time there. Nice way to end our European visit.

This tour covered interesting outlying towns and villages on the way from Budapest to the Danube Bend and we had an excellent guide whose commentary was insightful and meaningful. The tour included a lunchstop restaurant whose terrace afforded wonderful views and had the weather been better, would have been a delightful spot for taking lunch. A good day out from Budapest!

The restaurant at our lunch stop in Visegrad could not cope with such a large group. We had less time in Szentendre which is an interesting town because of the long drawn out lunch. We would like to have more in Szentendre.

We were really looking forward to seeing some sights outside of Budapest. The tour started with a drive to Szentendre, but instead of going into the town, we were taken to a jewellery place to "learn" about diamonds, and to shop in the showroom. This took away valuable time from the three places we were to visit: Estergom, Visegrad, and Szentendre. The visit to the Estergom Cathedral was very interesting, and was not rushed. At Visegrad, we had our included lunch at a beautiful place. The food was very good, and the views were great. Finally, we arrived at Szentendre, but did not really have enough time to explore this beautiful place. Drop the jewellery stop to allow more time in Szentendre. The boat ride back to Budapest was really nice.

Very confusing "pick up" .We waited out front at 0825 for an 0830 pickup. An unmarked agent went in the the front desk and called our room. She finally told the front desk that if we complained, she had tried. There was another party joining us, but since it was chilly, one of them had stepped inside to wait. The chilly one finally realized what was happening and made the connection in the lobby. She told the agent there were two guys who had been sitting sitting outside. She came out at 0848 with my last name on a scrap of paper. She chided us severely for not being where we were supposed to be. Another staying at another hotel told us his agent simply walked in to the lobby, told reception he was there, and walked back out...The other issue is that we were given a "local" number to reconfirm a day before. We were in Budapest and couldn't reach it because the number apparently is in Germany. The Concierge handled this for us. Otherwise...we enjoyed the trip and listening to the description in 4 different languages. Lunch was great and the setting was beautiful. We did laugh when our English/German guide Helena would walk ahead with her umbrella up talking constantly when nobody was anywhere near her...

This was excellent, however it was not what we expected. We spent over six hours on a coach, and only an hour on the boat! We started at 8:30am and did not get on the boat until 5pm! It was a little commercialised also. The diamond factory was only for selling, we saw no diamonds being cut (didn't even see any workers there except sales assistants!). The meal was lovely. But everything was geared to getting as much money out of us as possible. The guide never smiled once (something you get used to in Budapest!) and she was totally uninterested. We all agreed she would make a great school mistress! Having said that, the place was lovely and well worth seeing, its just not waht you expect!

Four of us took this day trip and our only complaint was that we wished in was longer so we had more time in Szentendre. The town was so lovely we would have liked another hour there to shop or enjoy a cafe. We enjoyed the entire day and saw a bit of the country side. Our lunch was in a beautiful place , the meal was delicious and the music fun. Our tour guide was great and while she had to say everything in 3 different languages, she slid easily from one to the next and it was no problem.

overall the trip was very nice. Especially because people in charge and guides are kind and polite. The sights are really nice. However, a very very bad thing is that there is almost no time to visit the places at the stops, in particular in the last stop at the island. A lot of time wasted in the bus and in the diamond shop/factory. This stop should be avoided and the time instead should be spent in the island. We just got 15 minutes to walk around.

The bus portion of the trip was beautiful. I really got a good view of Hungary outside Budapest. Our guide was knowledgeable and informative but not too intrusive. Surprisingly, the included lunch was quite good and in a scenic restaurant. I would have given it 5 stars but we were told to be at the boat for the Danube cruise at 16:45. When I arrived at 16:40 every seat on the outside deck was already taken by another group. In fact there were so many people on that cruise that many of us had to stand the whole way which was over an hour and there was not much to see on the trip. Bad ending to what was otherwise a lovely day.

Very disappointed as I assumed this was a river trip, and in the event only one hour out of nine was on a boat, the rest was by coach, and the boat was full of diesel fumes. Diamond museum is simply a shop. Many people on our tour felt the same.

half the tour was really good but the return on a wreck boat fuming gas smokes crowded on steel benches causes permanent back pain. this was a bad surprise. if you take the tour chose to return from Szentendre by bus on you own and not by boat.

This was a fabulous tour. Bus tour with amazing stops first. Especially loved St. Stephen's and surrounding area. Lunch was fabulous at a restaurant overlooking the valley and nearby castle. Music and wine was great. Boat trip back to Budapest was fun, but more like a water taxi. This was definitely a great tour and highly recommend.

Felt like it was mostly driving from shop to shop. Some was nice, but was quite bored. Also, food for lunch was not as good as I'd hoped, and there were dead flies next to my seat. When I mentioned this, one person told me to just move, and the waiter shrugged.

We stopped at a diamond place in Szentendre. I'm not sure why. The stop was mildly informative but not enough time to shop. Next, we drove to Esztergomi to see a cathedral. too much of a drive for the value. Then to lunch in a beautiful setting, but the food was poor. Then to the "artist" village of Szentendre - not filled with artists but souvenier shops. Finally a Danube boat ride in a ferry - standing room only. Next time I will see more of Budapest.

I was angry that the trip stopped at a diamond shop first. This was not in the description of the trip and a total waste of time. I would have preferred to have more time in Szchenze although the same handicrafts can be found in the upper level of the Budapest market. The trip to Estergom and the lunch was nice. One star.

Good gay out but insufficient opportunity to see Esztergom due to an utter waste of time in a diamond factory in Szentendre. Lunch in Visegrad was disappointing and out of the town in a manufactured atmosphere.

This trip was not as advertised, a complete waste of a full day, we did not get to see the Danube bends, big or little, as we wizzes past on a coach- instead we spent more time being pushed into sales at a jewellery warehouse and a small village market. A lot of time spent at a completely uninteresting church and the lunch was disgraceful._br/_ I would strong,ly recommend you do not advertise this trip as a cruise on the danube!!!

The highlight of the trip for me was the Hungary-Slovakia border. The views there are amazing. I would definitely recommend climbing to the top of the church for the best views. The climb is similar to St. Peters in Vatican City, but I think the scenery here is much better.

Ingrid, our tour guide patiently explained what we were seeing and, at all times, kept track of the group and saw that our questions and concerns were answered. We saw both the town of Estergom and the Danube Bend and were very happy at the pace of the tours and the beauty of the sights we were seeing. We dined at fine restaurant in a lodge used by hunters in the area and enjoyed the cuisine and the company of others on the tour. Overall, this was a great experience.

This was an excellent excursion. Our guide was fluent in several languages, but fortunately we all spoke English which made her job a lot easier! She was so knowledgeable and gave us mountains of information all day. The trip took us out of Budapest and included a very enjoyable 3 course meal at a restaurant with wonderful views of the Danube and surrounding countryside. A trip well worth doing although the brief visit to the diamond company seemed a bit out of place to the rest of the tour.
