Puszta Great Plains and Kecskemet Day Trip from Budapest

Budapest, Hungary

Experience the beauty of Hungary's southern Great Plains on a day trip to the towns of Kecskemet and Lajosmizse. You'll discover Hungary's sunniest region, a land of rivers and lakes, and a paradise for lovers of fishing, water sports and horse riding.

The tour takes you on a scenic drive through the Great Plains to Kecskemet, where you will be taken on a guided walk through the town. Kecskemet is the largest town in the region, with historical monuments, nature reserves and a thriving cultural life.

Continuing on to Lajosmizse, you will be greeted with a traditional welcome drink. After an exciting performance by the famous horsemen of the region, you'll take a carriage ride through the Puszta, the typical steppe landscape of the Great Plains.

You'll then enjoy a Hungarian three-course meal with wine at a traditional tavern, accompanied by stirring gypsy music.

On your return to Budapest, you'll drive through the unique Great Plains landscape of sand dunes, grasslands, reed-lined waterways and backwaters, tiny white farms, well-kept pastures and rolling fields of wheat.

enjoyed this trip but would have liked a longer time in Keshkemet. I did not get a good look around to understand the town. Maybe the Putsza could have been a little later to allow this. Driver just great to get a way out of the traffic jam on the way home. I did enjoy seeing the plain and the guide's explanation of this land formation, also her detailed information about thegrowing of peppers etc. Thank you.

The plains and the stud farm were great something I always associated with Hungry. The meal was ok ; just a bit dry. The horse riding opportunity though was next to nothing and a bit farcical. But all in all a very nice day out; still would recommend it.

We enjoyed this but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are spending more than three days in Budapest. It i(the farm/ranch visit) s a nice change of pace from the city but you should have already worked through your "must see" list. We had good weather. I'm not sure how this tour would work if it was raining (you walk around in the dirt a lot). I think the stop at Kecskemet was just a fill in thing. This should probably be a half day tour skipping Kecskemet.

This tour was excellent, the multilingual guide amazing - (5 languages) thoroughly enjoyed the day the food, the visit to the Puszta and the horse show. I am full of admiration, this was much better than I expected. Right from being picked up at the hotel, taken to the tour bus, the quality of the visit to Kecskemet. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone. It was a great day out!

We were collected by taxi from our hotel and taken to the tour office where we met the guide and fellow travellers. The weather in Budapest had been over 40 degrees for a few days and the air conditioning in the van was defective. Our very eccentric older female guide provided commentary in German and then repeated it in English (very tedious). She became quite cross with us if we were a minute late returning from toilet breaks and muttered to herself. The visit to Kecskemet was really just a lour of a couple of churches and time for a drink and could be omitted from this tour. The horse show was excellent displaying the beauty of the horses and the skill of the riders. On a cooler day the 3 hot course lunch would be delicious but it was difficult to enjoy in the heat. We were dropped off a couple of blocks from our hotel rather then returned to it as was indicated in the advertising.

Trip to Kecskemet was a complete waste of time. Stop for the 15 minute horse show was interesting and the lunch and music was very good. I would suggest spending the time in budapest.

We had a very pleasant day on our 35th wedding anniversary. The coach guide was great and the day went very smoothly. The horse ranch was superb as was the meal with wine. Met a lot of lovely people from around the world.Definitely recommended!!

We had a very knowledgable guide. I would have preferred spending a little more time in the countryside than at the Lajosmizse ranch. Perhaps taking rural roads through the Puszta Great Plains instead of the freeway.

This was the highlite of our 3 weeks in Europe. Its amust if you are staying in Budapest. See the beautiful farming lands, visit the amazingly laid out, architecturally town of Kecskemet. Then to arrive at the stunning property of 'Lajosmizse'. This is not some ordinary equestrian show; magnificent horses, handsome riders performing incredible feats with their horses. Was amagnificent show and whats more could not tell you how maby horses were envolved. To stroll the stables , view the property and then to have a tasty 3 course Hungarian lunch with wine, ended e delightful visit....ah there was more , completely entertained during lunch by a talented Hungarian Gypsy band. Don't miss this tour.

The 40 minutes of this day spent watching the magnificent horses is all that can enjoyed. Another complete waste of a full day,, and a very long and unintetresting bus ride, being shown one small town where we were taken agai to buy souvenirs from a particular shop

Kecskemet is a very basic town, it comprises of a church, a monastory, a town hall, a small park and a girls' music school. There isn't much to see, except the monastory which is quite pretty. We arrived at the puszta horse show and had welcome drinks (apricot brandy) and a hungrian savoury cake (cinnamon) which was pleaseant next we had a little ride in a carriage....still nice and then a 3 course lunch comprising of goulash soup, chicken and chips and a hungarian desert which was a bit like square pancakes with apricot sauce on it (v.nice). We then had the "horse show" which lasted for about 10 minutes. The horse show was very disappointing and basic, the highlight being a horse sitting down and putting a hoof over the trainers shoulder (lasted 2 mins....you can see it in the picture advertising the day trip) and then another trainer standing on the back of 2 horses in a 4 horse carriage cantering around the arena. The remainder of the show had a donkey and a couple of horses trotting or cantering around the arena in a carriage. _br/_ You can look around the farm after the show....there is a dog, lot of other horses, donkeys, birds, a rabbit, and some goats. _br/_ Overall a disappointing day, the highlight being the lunch and the gypsy music that they merrily played to us whilst eating!

Trip is as described (although a lot of the journey is not terribly scenic)_br/_ Kecskemet is beautiful and well worth seeing._br/_ The horses at Lajosmizse are amazing and we were given plenty of time to visit the stables (there was a young girl in the party who was very keen to feed the horses and this was fine)_br/_ We also got a chance to see the other animals (cattle, sheep, turkeys, donkeys etc)_br/_ The lunch was good and our guide spoke fluent English.

We had a wonderful time on this tour. From pick up at our hotel until our return everything was timed and paced perfectly. Our guide Ingrid and driver Istvan did a fabulous job. The horse show was fun and Kecskemet was much more interesting than the "potty stop" I expected. Lunch was good too. Overall a great day and good value.

Money well spent! Over all, very good trip. Small enough bus (14 passengers), knowledgeable guide speaking pretty good English and very good German. Very good driver. Nice tour of town Kecskemet. Very nice stay at the farm (Tanyaczardas) sp?. Lots of well taken care of animals, including great horses. However, have to add some not very good comments: Almost went on the wrong trip, as the staff of the bus tour company first placed us on the wrong bus! Visit at the farm felt a bit touristy and not truly genuine. Almost felt like we were just another bus full of tourists coming... Service at lunch was slow, and we had to wait a long time for dessert.

With our guide, a polite and educated person, with a great knowledge of history and geography, we made an stop at a very interesting city Kecskement, a show with horses, a ride in an open buggy, a meal with a musical show, beautiful surroundings, and we came back to the city happy after a well planned day of activities away from the city.

If you are interested in horses or knowing more about Zoltan Kodaly musician, this tour is highly recommended for you. The horse show was very interesting, especially the rider on 5 horses. The visit to the town of Kodaly Kecskemet was also very interesting with lots to see in a small town. We had a very pleasant day away from the city, and had several people, about 20 , on this tour. We were picked up late 930am when they said 830am and had to call a Vienna telephone number to figure it out. This was rather inconvenient, and they should have just given the telephone number of the local agent. The guide spoke English very clearly with a rather charming accent.

A nice tour, we went in a small mini bus with an Italian couple. The driver and guide were very nice, and the guide was very knowledgeable. Keckskemet had a nice town square with a laid back feel to it. The ranch for the horse show was not too far away. You are met by a horseman who escorts you to the car park! This is followed by a carraige ride around the ranch. The show was very entertaining but the walk through the stables was very fly ridden, so take insect repellent! The meal was OK, only one glass of wine, the Americans on the other tables obviously with another tour company were getting carafes on the table, this upset my wife! You can either have a beer or wine, if you want another beer go into the garden and sit and order at the rustic tables its cheaper! A good day out and we were only 70 miles from Romania and Serbia. Nice people and it was good to see more of Hungary outside of Budapest.

Thought this would be a good tour, but expected it to be a little false as is often the case with tourist based displays. However, this trip was fantastic! We had terrible weather, raining and cold, but the display of horsemanship far outweighed any discomfort. The food was tremendous and served with great courtesy, and the gypsy band was extremely talented. Even the most jaded tourist would have to enjoy such a professional and mind-blowing display of the original warriors of the plains.

What a lovely day. Kecskemet is a beautiful town, too much to see and enjoy. There is lots to photograph, too. Our tour guide was just like family. She was friendly, chatty, full of information. She gave us her all. We just loved her. At the Puszta we loved the reception by the 'lonely csikos' and his beautiful mount, Tulipan. Show was great, dinner very ethnic and tasty. Music to die for. Could not imagine a nicer day. Thank you all for helping make our vacation so very wonderful.

Very pleasant experience for the day, and we did convince 3 other couples to join us for the day from our boat. All were pleased and thank us for the tip. Some had canceled other planned trips for the day. Located you via internet, and the arrangements and billing were met and quite simple. Thank you.

I am recommending this to everyone going to Budapest. The Chokos were absolutely amazing, the food fantastic and the music suited the atmosphere perfectly. The only problem was that the guide was a bit boring. Kecskemet was also nice, but I couldn't always follow the guide.
