Venture to Szentendre, town of museums on a half day sightseeing trip from Budapest. Located at the South Gate of Danube Bend, the tiny town squares, meandering streets, Serb temples and baroque bourgeois buildings contribute to a picturesque Mediterranean atmosphere.

Home to a young community of artists, many museums and galleries exhibit the works of locals who lived or currently live in the artists' quarter, established in the past century. You'll visit  the magnificent Caprice Hungarian Jewelry Center, and have a walk through the baroque center of town, with an opportunity to do some shopping.

Your tour returns to Budapest by boat on the Danube (May 1 to September 30 only, tide permitting) and will end at the Pier. During other times or at low tide you will return by bus to the city center.

A great disappointment! It wasn't clear where to begin the tour, the trip was boring, and the river cruise was boring, there wasn't anything to see, until we returned to the site of Parliament building.

Overall, I enjoyed this excursion, but we were very put off by the 'extra' (mandatory) stop at Caprice diamond store for a 'presentation' on our way to Szentendre. It took a whole 45 minutes out of an already short day, leaving us only an hour and a hlaf in the town itself! We even had to ditch our guide before the end of his walk-around because we felt so pressured to see as much as possible before having to meet up with him again.

Don't book on htis if you've gone on the Danube bend tour, as you've already done Szentendre. (local tour company) were very helpful and we substituted the jewish Synagogue and quarter tour AND the Parliament tour at no extra cost - both highly recommended, but a lot of walking on both.

I there was a zero or minus star rating , this trip deserved it! What a waste of time and money. Town totally boring; walking up a flight of uneven steps and through a few cobbled streets was not as anticipated. There was absolutely nothing worth seeing and the only things open were stalls trying to sell cheap overpriced tourist trash along the route. I have seen better and more interesting places in the UK. We were not alone with this opinion, others of the party thought the same. Tour guide pointed out buildings of interest en route , only good thing about the trip. If you want to see the town TAKE THE TRAIN from budapest and at least you can get back when you have had enough.

The main reason for the disappointing rating was that we were late setting off on the trip, as the bus was late due to a run round the city, but this could have been planned for. Also, the jewelry stop at Caprice was supposed to be 30 minutes, and we were over an hour, and therefore only got about 2 hours in Szentendre. The tour would be better without the jewelry stop, as this was not very informative and a very uncomfortable 'hard' sell. The time spent in Szentendre was very enjoyable, but too short.

The hour-long river cruise back to Budapest was not that interesting, and we had to be at the pier 30 minutes before the cruise started. This only left a little more than two hours at the town.

It was not a good trip. One shop was worth visiting but we did not have much time in the town. It was a long bus ride for nothing, and we had to pay for a taxi to get back to our hotel.
