Aboriginal Cultural Tjapukai by Night Tour including Buffet Dinner

Cairns, Australia

Come and join the traditional people of Australia in a special evening of Aboriginal culture. Tjapukai means rainforest and on this engaging cultural tour you'll hear the story of the Tjapukai people, watch theatrical performances, join in interactive activities and learn the traditonal customs of the rainforest and its people.

The Aboriginal Cultural Tjapukai tour includes a drink on arrival, Welcome Ceremony, Lakeside Ceremony, dance show, international buffet dinner, dessert, tea and coffee. It's an experience that will leave you with deep and lasting memory of Australia's traditional people and culture.

From the moment you arrive at Tjapukai Cultural Park you will feel the powerful spirit of Australia vibrate through the atmosphere, creating an intense and mysterious mood. As you enter, the Magic Space, the Quinkin spirits come to life to take you on a journey through the Storywaters into the Dreamtime. Thunder and lightning herald the Gadja,a glowing Dreamtime spirit, and his opposite the towering , Quinkin, bidding you to enter the past.

In the haunting Lakeside Ceremony, guests form part of the Rainbow Serpent Circle and share in an Aboriginal celebration consisting of music, chanting and dance that culminates in a magical fire-making ceremony. The fire is sent soaring across the lake to become a magical fireball, illuminating the lakeside and the audience. The Tjapukai people then appear in a flame-lit canoe, arriving to escort guests to the night's dining venue, The Boomerang Restaurant.

At the glowing restaurant, the evening culminates in a sumptuous international buffet menu. Then the lights dim and the Tjapakai people take the stage, presenting their culture with their inimitable blend of theater and humor. You will find yourself connecting with their love of fun in a world where there are no barriers, only joy and laughter.

Before returning to your hotel, there is time to explore the award-winning Tjapukai Fine Art Gallery.

This was the worst event I've been to in a long time. I learned nothing about the Aboriginal culture and the food wasn't that good. It was a waste of a night.

I was looking forward to a entertaining evening of learning about the culture and history of the aborigines in Australia. What we found was a show with little information about the history of the culture and a cheesy ceremony that involved a lot of audience participation that we were not expecting. This would be a good show for a family with young ones, but not a great way to learn about the history and culture of the original Aussies.

An amazing experience and a highlight of our trip. I would recommend this night out to both young and old. Worth every cent.

They tell you to come quite a bit earlier than the actual start time. Why? Because they leave you in their souvenir and crafts shop where out of sheer boredom you end up buying something. Not to mention that it is all ridiculously overpriced! The show itself was OK. If they ask for an audience participant - put your hand up, as they give you a little prize/token of appreciation!

Great night. The floor show was magnificient and the performers were very entertaining. I think a little more effort in attendance to those on the tour. We weren't given enough information at the begining of the night as where to go.

The show was fairly short, but the amazing selection of food at the buffet was out of this world. If you like variety especially the desserts then its a must.

The extensive performance was amazing and the food was very good. Also, this can be a family activity as the food is buffet-style with choices that pickier eaters will still enjoy.

The first part of the night was great. The story of fire was very interesting. Dinner was terrific, and there was plenty of food. The show after dinner seemed too short. We were just settling in when we were asked to leave.

This was a waste of time and money. We were hoping to get a history introduction about the aboriginal past or some type of storytelling. Instead, the one-and-a-half hour show was more about aboriginal performers dancing and playing the didgeridoo. The fire performance, where performers made music and lit the fire, lasted about eight minutes. Afterward, we were herded to the cafeteria for a mediocre buffet dinner. Nothing was exotic about dinner. During dinner, performers played the didgeridoo again and performed some skits. I don't recommend this tour.
