Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation and Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary Day Tour

Cairns, Australia

Take a day trip from Cairns along one of Australia's most scenic coastal roads to Daintree National Park. Along the way you'll visit the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary at Port Douglas, take a cable ferry across the Daintree River then explore Cape Tribulation on a guided rainforest walk.

Your first stop is Port Douglas, where you will visit the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary to see native animals including kangaroos, tree kangaroos, crocodiles, koalas and rare cassowaries. There is also a wide variety of native Australian birds, and the chance to hand feed a wallaby or kangaroo.

Then it's time to head north and cross the Daintree River by cable ferry to enter the Cape Tribulation section of the Daintree National Park. You'll enjoy a delicious lunch at Cape Tribulation Beach House Restaurant. Enjoy one-hour at leisure on Cape Tribulation Beach before you take the guided Marrdja Botanical Rainforest Walk through the heart of Cape Tribulation. Along the way, your guide will share the fascinating secrets of the rainforest, its food, medicines and history.

Your journey then returns to the Daintree River, where you will enjoy a wildlife cruise, searching for crocodiles, birds and other mangrove wildlife. Before your day out concludes you'll have spectacular views from the Rex Lookout.

Lunch Sample Menu:

Choice of fish, steak or vegetarian dishes cooked to your taste and served with a garden salad, fries and homestyle baked bread with a tropical fruit platter to finish.

Being a bit older (60 odd) than most of the people on the trip we were not sure how we would go but it was all wonderful. We have recommended the trip to our friends who are there soon. I would also highly recommend our driver (Shane).

Best tour guide ever--Shane. We had a spectacular day including close up visits with kangaroo, koalas, wallabies, cassowary and crocodiles. GREAT lunch in the middle of the rain forest. A super riverboat in spite of POURING rain. Shane went over the top to look after us, answer our questions (even personal ones) and make sure our every concern was thoroughly addressed. Thank you, Shane.

One of our best memories of a month long trip. Shane, the guide, made the day. He came back and picked us up, knowing we had stopped to order pizza and planned to walk back, and kept us from a miserable walk in the pouring rain. He had already taken our husbands back to the apartment. Can't say enough about his conversation, the wildlife exposure, the food, and a truly entertaining and informative day. Felt like we saw the rest of Australia , in the best way possible, on the tour. He was very responsive to our interests and questions. Great tour. Best guide we had, and we took several tours in Aus and NZ

FANTASTIC! 6 nights wasn't enough - GOT to get back and see more and do more Barrier Reef. Australia isn't the cheapest option but you don't get great for peanuts. We can't wait to get out there again.

the wildlife center and the river cruise were fantastic. daintree was beautiful, but we were only there for 30 minutes. the rest of the trip seemed to just be a time killer. in addition, our driver was rude, yelled at people for being 1-2 minutes late, and seemed bored with his job.

This trip felt a little rushed. A lot to see and a lot of distance travelling meant most of the time was spent on the bus. Could have done without the aussie music on way back.

The Adventure Company aka Down Under driver couldn't find our accommodations so we were picked up late, and the driver blamed us. What tour company works without a GPS or at least, Google map!! Anyway, good tour but highly recommend another tour company. There are several to choose from.

I am glad that we booked this tour as I have never been to a rainforest, but there was really so much driving. Not that it is the fault of the tour as the Daintree is about 2 hours from Cairns, but the bus was very cramped - the seats close together and not very comfortable. Overall, it was a neat experience, but I don't think I would do it again - especially considering the cost.

Lovely trip with an informative guide. Highlights were the Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary, Cape Tribulation beach, the walk through the mangroves and the wild snakes and crocodiles on the river trip - all sights not seen at home! Biggest thrill was the wild cassowary in the mangroves apparently only 1500 left wild in the area and we saw one!

Amazing trip to the rainforest and wildlife sanctuary. Tour guides were great, informative and very friendly. A walk through the rainforest and Cape Tribulation was nice and relxing, enjoyable scenes of nature. Handfeeding kangaroos and wallabies was extremely fun. The sanctuary gives the visitors a more intimate visit with wildlife.

I liked the Raintree Forest habitat, but all tours go there. The trip down the Daintree River did not grab me, but then I don't think crocodiles fighting is a great thing to see. The restaurant and its swimming pool were fabulous. The walk through the raintree forest was not, through all the mangroves. The van ride is VERRRRRRRRRRY long!
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
Review by: Stephanie J, United States of America October 2009
This was a great tour. The rainforest habitat was a small animal park that allowed for close contact with the friendly animals there. Mossman Gorge was beautiful and will apparently not be able to be accessed for much longer, so great to see while it was still possible. Cape Tribulation and the Daintree were absolutely incredible. The visit to Cape Tribulation allowed for some nice swimming, relaxing on the beach, and a great lunch at a nice hotel. It was actually very private out there, too! The cruise down the Daintree was great, it seemed like we were in the middle of nowhere and we got to see a lot, including a very large crocodile sunning on the shores. It's a long day, be prepared for long car rides and maybe bring some snacks along, but it was comfortable and informative with a friendly driver who took care to make sure the day was great. Bring your cameras, a lot of beautiful sights!

This was a long day, but very enjoyable! The guide was informative and amusing. The stop for lunch was good. The wildlife sanctuary was our first stop, it was early so we had it practically to ourselves, brilliant for taking photos. Really enjoyed the cruise crocodile watching, and was fortunate to see quite a few, along with tree snakes, and various other wildlife.
