The drive to Tully, 87 miles (140 kilometers) south of Cairns, is a scenic journey through cloud-covered coastal mountains, clear rivers and streams, fields of sugar cane and exotic fruits. Rafting in North Queensland has the advantage of departures all year round, tropical water temperatures and ease of access to compliment breath-taking scenery and rapids.

Rapids include the unforgettable "Alarm Clock", "Wet and Moisty", "Stair Case" and the dramatic "Theatre" - all before a riverside BBQ lunch opposite "Ponytail Falls" where time is made to replenish your batteries before the afternoon's remaining rapids.

All you need to bring is lace-up shoes (that WILL get wet), swim suit and towel (you will need to be wearing your swim suit at the time of pick up), a spare change of clothes and don't forget the 15+ sunscreen. Guides suck but they are funny. Shoddy rafts that taco. Not the safest. Food is horrific. They have a monopoly on rafting and they send down way too mnay rafts. You sit around a lot not moving.

So much fun! Could have done it all over again. Don't hesitate. Just book it and you won't regret it. We're glad we chose this tour instead of the Barrons fall rafting since that would have been too short.

I booked this tour for my hubby and two teenagers. They had an absolute ball with many laughs on the way. The photos were awesome that you could purchase from the tour guides but you may want to check the pricing as they are pricey - but worth it!! The rafting staff were a lot of laughs and had everyone in stitches and their detail to safety is second to none. My hubby and the kids will most definitely return to this tour as they couldn't stop "raving" about it and although it is a long day - well worth it! Tip for others - the March flies are pretty thick when you pull up for lunch but they are great to swat and feed to the fish. Maybe wear an undershirt as my hubby got some nasty chaffing from his vest but otherwise - be prepared for plenty of thrills and lots of laughs!!

The company picked me up from my hostel on time and we stopped for breakfast on the way. The rafting guides were extremely friendly and entertaining. The people I met on the trip were also. We got to jump off rocks, swim down rapids, get our raft flipped on purpose, etc. The rapids were not as strong because of the water level, but it was still a great time. Great lunch by the river. Rent a wetsuit if you go during the winter, the water does get cold!

I was hoping for a sunny hot day, but despite the clouds and rain, it was really fun. Loved our guide, but didn't really like that we all had to wait for the other rafts to make it through. Perhaps one raft goes thru, waits for the next, the second raft waits for the third, and so on.

Great day! The morning was a bit slow because there are two major rapids at the start and we were nervous the rest of the day would be similar, but after a yummy lunch we spent a great deal of the afternoon on the rapids that was much faster. They even took us on an extended trip because we all did so well and we had made good time on the earlier portions.

Fun tour for first-time rafters. However, Barron River is not very rapid or intense for those who want more excitement. There are long stretches of calm water with short rapids.

This is one of those experiences that everyone should do at least once in their lifetime! The rain and Tropical Cyclone Nelson made it even better. Our guide was the best ever for our family. Everything was perfect, beautiful, awesome! I plan to do this again in another couple of years.
