Private Tour: Giza Pyramids and Sphinx

Cairo, Egypt

No visit to Cairo is complete without seeing the majesty of the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. With your own private Egyptologist guide to lead the way, you'll enjoy personalized attention on your private tour of these famous symbols of Egypt's ancient civilization. As this is a private tour, you can determine the amount of time you'd like to spend at each of the sites you'll visit.

On the Giza plateau, the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx date back over 3,000 years. While there are actually over 100 pyramids in Egypt, the Pyramids of Giza are by far the most famous and are the last of the original Seven Wonders of the World. Your qualified Egyptologist guide will provide a fascinating introduction to each of the three pyramids: Cheops, Khafre and Menakaure. You will have free time to enter one of the pyramids (additional cost), although your guide is not permitted to enter with you.

After visiting the pyramids, you'll then continue across the plateau for a photo opportunity of the three pyramids rising from the sands, with the Cairo skyline in the background.

A short drive to the city side of the plateau finds you standing at the feet of the Sphinx, for thousands of years the enigmatic symbol of Egypt. The Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a king, and is surrounded in mystery, including the unanswered questions: who built it and why.

In addition you will have the chance to visit a Papyrus Institute to see how this famous artwork is made. If you do not want to include this visit, just inform your guide on the day.

Pyramids and sphinx are wonderful pieces and are definitely wonders to see. The sphinx unfortunately was getting work done to it so couldn't get up close to it. The guide was good however, on this tour they want you to buy all sorts of souvenirs. When we did not do this, the guides attitude changed and he got really moody. The tour should be about the wonderful pieces of artistry not buying souvenirs.

Memdough from South Sinai Travels and Joseph our driver picked us up from the airport in a large, air-conditioned van. Our guide Hanan was waiting for us in Giza. The Pyramids were absolutely thrilling. Hanan explained the history and gave us fascinating details.

We were able to contact them by email before we left because we had our tour the next morning. They left a message at the hotel reception to confirm which was very helpful. _br/_ The tour guide was knowledgeable and made our time at the pyramids very easy and enjoyable.

Mamoud our tour guide was fantastic! Highly recommended. Felt safe at all times and Mamoud instructed us on how to deal with the Egyptian sellers. Go see Egypt whilst the crowds are not there.

Fantastic tour! We had an excellent guide, one of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend this tour and optional extra of going inside the pyramid is a must.

The tour to the pyramids was well thought out. The only problem was that during the four hour tour, we only had contact with our Egyptologist for about 45 minutes. During the other time, we were left to 'fend' for ourselves. This made it incredibly difficult because of the vast number of 'tourist-hagglers' around the pyramids. This, unfortunately, kind of ruined the experience. Apart from that, it was a good tour, but for safety reasons, book with a large tour group, as you are less likely to be 'commandeered' by these 'tourist-hagglers', trying to sell you cheap souvenirs, camel/donkey rides, or the dreaded "Hey, Mister. I take your picture?".

the last of the 7 wonders and a mandatory visit. the tourist area is safe to visit, they have actually cleaned it up a bit. the inside of the pyramid is interesting and not for the weak of knees or for the claustrophobic. yes, there are people trying to get you to ride a camel ($10) , a fun thing, and then you get someone else trying to give you a "free" scarf- don't do it. but this is a great morning.

The driver and guide were good. The pyramids and Sphinx are impressive, but not worth more than a couple of hours' visit. The tour includes an optional visit to an essence merchant nearby. We had mixed feelings about these optional tours. The crafts are interesting, and you don't have to buy anything, but saying "no" all the time in Egypt gets tiring.

When my wife and I visited the Pyramids and Sphinx it was just after the Revolution and the site was fairly empty of tourists, which was tough on the locals but advantageous for us. As expected, what you see is quite awesome when you realise when they were built and the tools they had. We didn't venture inside the pyramids, too claustrophobic and too old for the climb!, but had a really good look around the site._br/_ Our guide was excellent and everything went very smoothly._br/_ If you visit Cairo it's a must to take in this tour and I would recommend it to anyone. Not too much hassle from local vendors selling their wares though they are always around.

Going into the pyramid was neat, but it would have been better to catch a cab from our hotel to Giza and walk around by ourselves. The tour guide rattled off information like she memorized an encyclopedia, wanted strict time limits when we went off on our own and appeared genuinely irritated when we wanted to stop in at the KFC by the Sphynx.

I was disappointed that the guide was so anxious to shuttle us to stores and the infamous 'papyrous factory' where she got a cut of whatever purchases we made. This is definitely not mentioned in the description and I expected more from a private tour. This is the kind of thing you put up with on a large group bus tour. At one point she lied to discourage us from going to Khan al Khalili (bc of course she gets no kick-back from those purchases), putting it down as unsafe and dirty. I also would have liked more time at the site, less time at the entrance with a history lesson. On the positive side, I liked that we were given free time at the pyramids to explore.

The tour guide was 1 hour 30 minslate to pick us up. Once we finally got going the only good thing about the tour was the airconditioned car. Our guide gave us no real information on the tour and spentmost of the time talking to the driver.

The trip was ok, but the guide was to pushy in trying to force me to buy other tours after the main one was done. When I told him that I wasn´t interested in going to the see the papyrus manufacturing, or bying a new camera and jewels, or going to a place he knew where they have good beverages, he got really sore and stopped talking all together. This ruined the experience to a large degree, so the next time I will use another tour provider.

Great tour guide, just enough sites to see without overdoing it with two young children. Big AC van for 4 of us. It dropped us off right at the sights and was waiting to pick us up when we were finished. Tour guide warned us about the hasslers and how to spot them. Great tip!

We had the same tour guide as the egyptian museum who completely ruined the experience for my daughter. The tour guide was rubbish, completely disinterested and couldn't care less. He didn't tell us the mirths and legends about the pyramids sphinx, infact he was boring and didn't like it when we asked questions.

Excellent guide who not only navigated to the best viewing spots, but was also enthusastic, knowledgeable and efficient. Overall service was highly efficient. I was picked up from my hotel bang on time and dropped back later. On the tour, I had as much time as I needed to see the various sights and never felt rushed.

I would like to thank both Viator and the tour operator for an outstanding job. This was my first time to Egypt, and I can't wait to come back. The guides did an outstanding job and made the tour very enjoyable. Only item to be aware of around the pyramids is the individuals that want to give you free gifts. They are not free, and they will hassle with you for money. Avoid these individuals, no matter how friendly and sincere they seem to be. Our guide warned us of these individuals. I also recommend taking the side trips when leaving the pyramids and the Sphinx.

This is a review of the TOUR only not of the pyramids and Sphinx. The tour is great. I was there for only a day and they picked me up on time in the morning at my hotel called to confirm prior, and took me straight to the Pyramids. The tour lady was very knowledgeable and nice and allowed us to take our time taking pictures etc.. Unlike many places in the world ie, India, the tour lady gave us the OPTION to go to the tourist traps after perfume shop and papyrus store. We actually agreed to go and were pleasantly surprised. Nobody was pushy. Great experience if you are there for a day only!
