Tulum and Xel-Ha All Inclusive Day Trip from Cancun

Cancun, Mexico

Discover the mysterious beauty of Tulum and the stunning, natural Xel-Ha aquarium. This relaxing, all inclusive excursion from Cancun or Playa del Carmen will give you the opportunity to explore the spectacular Mexican landscape and natural aquatic life. This family friendly excursion is sure to leave the entire family in awe!

Tulum's close proximity to Cancun and the azure backdrop of the Caribbean Sea makes it the most visited of the Mayan sites in the Yucatan. Tulum flourished in late Post-classical times with buildings dating back to the 12th century. It was once an important trading port, one of the few Mayan cities still inhabited when the Spaniards arrived. Mounted on the edge of a cliff, this abandoned city towers above the beautiful white sandy beach, where the sun rises from the sea above the city walls.

You'll have a 45 minute guided tour of Tulum before departing for the short drive to Xel-Ha. Your guide will point out important sites, explaining the historical significance of buildings such as the Castle, the Temple of the Masks and the God Chaac.

A 20 minute drive will take you to the incredible natural aquatic theme park created by the Mayan gods themselves: Xel-Ha. This special place gathers the best of the Mexican Caribbean all in one place.

Home a wide variety of colorful tropical fish, you can learn how to snorkel and observe the different species up close. You'll explore cenotes (underground caves) or simply sit in one of the beach chairs and soak up the sun along the spectacular coastline!

Underground rivers flowing out to the beautiful Caribbean Sea feed an environment of creeks, lagoons, natural wells and ancient caves. Explore the underwater world by snorkeling and coming face to face with exotic underwater flora and fauna such as curious rays and French Angel fish. Other activities include cliff diving, rope bridge walking, and bicycling, kayaking, and much more.

xel ha was the least impressive theme park and after being picked up at 0715 arrived at first stop at 1115 so four hour a to b when direct travel is only 1hr 15 mins

We wasted approximately 4.5 hours picking-up passengers from different hotels prior to reaching tulum and xel-ha.

Trip was very good. Some of the tour members did not go to Tulum and spent the whole time in Xel-Ha, which might have been a good decision. People who enjoy historical sites definitely should not miss Tulum but you may have to hurry up and cover every thing in haste and then return to Xel-Ha. It will be difficult to cover lot of events in Xel-Ha in the remaining hours.

Excellent Day Out - would definately recommend - Talum is worth the visit, although it gives you less time at Xel-Ha. If you want to do all the activities at Xel-Ha then visit them seperately and spend all day there, otherwise if you are like us and are a little too old for the cliff jumping or zip lining do both places and enoy the lighter activities at Xel-Ha. The price of this trip may seem high but for the all inclusive food and drink at Xel-Ha it is well worth the visit.

Had a lovely time in Tulum ad Xel-ha. Our guidein Tulum was very informative ans spoke great English. Great choice of activities in Xel-Ha, though you have to pay more on top of your initial tour price. The buffet lunch at Xel-Ha was so great, lots of choice.

Excellent trip. Tulum was beautiful and well worth visiting. Unfortunately my daughter became unwell in the heat and had to return to the air-conditioned coach. The guide was excellent and after his talk to the party, escorted my daughter all the way back to the coach and ensured she was OK, while my wife and I could finish the tour of the site. Xel-Ha was a fantastic place, but you really need a day there to experience everything. A word of caution! We decided to float down the river on inflatable rings. The river does not have a current and and you really need to have flippers as well. I didn't and fought for over 2 hours to paddle myself along before abandoning the ring halfway and swimming for the nearest exit, and then searching for my family! I missed other attractions in the park as a result and was also very tired. A warning about the potential length of the river and time required would have been useful. Still it was all an experience and enjoyable and a beautiful place. Incidentally my daughter recovered rapidly and managed to complete the river! Trip very well organised.

Xel-Ha was nice, but I would have liked more time in Tulum. The driver told us we were going to Tulum first, but then took us to Xel-Ha first. After 5 hours there, our pick-up to Tulum was about 30 minutes late. Tulum was very rushed and our guide gave us the "abbreviated version" of history so we'd have a chance to look around on our own for a bit (which was only 15-20 minutes....not enough time).

after a few hours of waiting for a ride that never came we did get everything figured out and the trip was ok Xel-Ha was a little to restrictive and you can only took at the same fish for so long but tulum was great, we had a great guide. so just make sure they remember to pick you up and the trip is great.

Our guide lacked enthusiasm for Tulum. We did this after Chichen Itza and were disappointed. In hindsight we should have done a whole day at Xel-Ha which was fabulous. All you can eat and dring all day and lots to do. This was the highlight.

Long day. Trip is billed as a 9 hour tour however it actually took 12 hours from the time we were picked up until we were droped back off at our hotel. Also, Xel-Ha is listed as a aquarium when it is more like a water park. You swim and snorkle in logoons so you need a swimsuit and warm weather to enjoy. Great for kids but our real purpose was to see Tulum and the time at Xel-Ha was wasted time for us.

Took a long time to get to Xel-Ha from Cancun, but it was worth it. Xel-Ha is beautiful and the river-tubing and "snuba" experience were some of the highlights of our Cancun vacation. Tulum is lovely and peaceful and our tour guide, Carlos, definitely enhanced our experience with his explanations of Mayan life there.

This trip was amazing to say the least. Don't know if we hit this on a good day, but me and my boyfriend were the only people on the tour bus, which sat about 12 people, for most of the drive. We were picked up at our hotel in Cancun and were alone on the bus until we had to pick up another couple and a family of four in Playa Del Carmen. I was glad that we did that because it wasn't much of a detour and we got to see Playa Del Carmen a little and quickly decided that, Playa Del Carmen would be our next vacation trip. We went to Tulum first, and were there about an hour and a half, which was plenty. So beautiful to see. Some friends of ours were also in Cancun and went to Chitchen Itza and were a little dissapionted with it, they did go through another tour site for this trip, so we felt pretty good with our decision to see Tulum and we were right on, because it was beautiful. We then went to Xel-Ha, which the pronunciation sounds like Chel-Ha, and that was about 10 minutes away from Tulum. We spent 5 hours there which was perfect. The buffet lunch at Xel-Ha was so good, with all you can drink beverages and pour your own beer spouts. The price for this trip was really good. At Xel-Ha there are four restaurants you can chooose to eat from and you can eat all you want. The food was superb. Your snorkel gear is included, the area to snorkel is huge. You can use inner tubes to float around on, there are lockers at your disposal and out door showers to rinse off at. The staff was so friendly too!

We enjoyed this trip, but we didn't have enough time at either place. Our guide at Tulum wasn't nearly as good as the one we had had at Chichen Itza a few days earlier, so we felt we didn't learn as much. Also, I suspect that Tulum isn't as significant of an archaeological site either -- basically it was a housing complex. The thing that Tulum has is absolutely breathtaking views. You just want to stand there and drink in the scenery. We would have liked to stay longer and take more pictures and go down to the beach and explore, but we didn't have enough time. We enjoyed Xel-Ha too, but again, we didn't have enough time. We ate lunch, very good, and took a tube trip down the river, and that was all we had time for. It would be a good place to spend the whole day. Basically, we recommend this trip, but do each one separately on separate days.

Tuluum was very interesting, guide was excellent. Xel-Ha turned out to be more water activity focussed than we expected. Still worth visiting, but if not interested in getting in the water, it was too long.

Although way overpriced, I would highly recommend this trip which included the best of both worlds. It included Mayan ruins in the beautiful setting of Tulum and as well as the typical Cancun stuff such as snorkeling, the beach, and tubing Xel-Ha. The tour guides were also really good on this trip!

It was very easy to book and confirm. We had a great extremely knowledgeable guide. The only drawback was that we were the first to be picked up and then we were early to another resort and had to wait like 45 mins. I would have preferred a better time calculation so I could have slept in a little longer.

Our tour guide was very informative, we learned a lot about the history of the Mayans and Tulum. Time was short so was a very quick tour, would have liked to have had more time. Xel-Ha was nice, had great snorkling, would do again.

They were late picking us up at the hotel. After everybody was loaded up on the bus, I thought we were headed towards Tulum. They ended up taking us back to the Kukulcan Mall where several bus loads of people were escorted off the bus to the second floor of the mall so they could get everybody processed and transferred to their assigned bus or shuttle van for the appropriate tour. It was confusing and kind of disappointing at first. Tulum was fascinating. I couldn't understand the tour guide all that well. He mixed English with Spanish. Xel-Ha was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed snorkeling. It was all-inclusive, which was a wonderful deal. All you can eat and drink. This tour is worth taking, but the organizers of these tours need to get better organized.

We had a bad tour guide but the Tulum and Xel-Ha were great. If you have the time I recommend you do them on separate days, because combining them does not really give you enough time at Xel-Ha.
