Tangier, Morocco Day Trip from Costa del Sol

Costa del Sol, Spain

Experience the magic of Morocco on a day trip to Tangier from Spain's Costa del Sol. Morocco lies just over the Mediterranean, but this exotic North African gem feels like a world away! Your full day adventure includes lunch, walking tours of the souk, Medina and Kasbah, shopping at a bazaar, and return ferry transfers - it's the ultimate value for a day in Morocco.

Your day trip to Tangier begins with a scenic drive along the Costa del Sol to the ports of Gibraltar, Algeciras or Tarifa (departure port depends on travel date). From here you will travel by high-speed ferry across the Strait of Gibraltar to Tangier Medina Port, in Morocco (45 to 60 minutes), where your journey will continue by road to the exciting Moroccan city of Tangier.

Your tour of Tangier starts with a panoramic view of the city, followed by a walking tour of the little souk, where you'll enjoy the spice markets, and a walking tour of the Medina (old quarter) and the Kasbah (old fortress), where you will discover Morocco's rich architecture. Stop to see the snake charmer and visit one of the local bakeries to try some tasty bread.

Then enjoy shopping at a typical bazaar, where you'll see many types of carpets and handicrafts. Enjoy lunch in a traditional Moroccan restaurant and watch a performance by a Berber Dancer.

After a short stop at Cape Spartel, where you can see the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea mixing together, you will taste a traditional mint tea and learn about the mint tea rituals. Then visit the Cave of Hercules and stop at an Atlantic dune, where you have the option to ride a camel.

At the time of booking you MUST advise the following information for ALL passengers:
Full name (as it appears on your passport)
Passport number

If you do not indicate these details at the time of booking, you must call the supplier at least 48 hours prior to tour departure to advise them directly.

The tour operator was great - found ways to get ahead of the crowd whenever possible. Very useful experience

This tour was worth every penny! We loved our giude and he kept us on schedule and we felt safe with his guidance. We learned alot of information that we would not have gained on our own. It is not somewhere to go ALONE!

The bus was late arriving in Marbella with no apology. The guide Pedro was excellent as was the Moroccan guide who turned out to be a University lecturer and made the day very interesting. I did feel a little like a herded animal being moved from place to place with no chance to relax at any one spot except for lunch and at the 'carpet show'. The culture is so different but everyone I met was very pleasant. The street sellers are pests and just do not give up, but no fault of the tour company. Over all an extremely well organised trip and worth every penny of the cost. Oh! I felt sorry for the camels being totally out of their normal environment and with skin worn away from kneeling down in the stoney makeshift bus stop.

Very interesting trip, slightly spoilt by the pressure from the street sellers in the casbah. Excellent meal in a traditional restaurant.

Good value for money. Too much time spent in carpet store. Would benefit from getting free time to shop in medina.

Amazing....The guide was phenomenal as a tour guide and Hassan was amazing in Morocco. The only advice I would offer is beware of the hawkers in Morocco...they are desperate street salespeople and harrass you endlessly...

This was a good trip due in part to the interesting people who attended. The meal was great and lots of fun. The guide (for once) spoke very clear English. We have NO TIME to shop at the street markets, only the hawkers who glued themselves to you. We spent WAY TOO much time in the rug shop and wasted time looking at their other merchandise when we could have been shopping. I enjoyed the tour of the city.

The tour itself was as advertised, and as expected, quite pleasant and informative. The guide in Tangier was excellent, giving information in a concise manner and willing to answer questions. The problem was with the tour operator, who had staff with little English. It took 4 long distance calls to get enough information to figure out where the pick-up point was, at ^.10 AM in front of a closed hotel. The pick up was late. It would have been a great help if one would know the point ahead of booking in order to find a hotel in the vicinity and save cab fares. Other than that, the day was enjoyable and would use Viator again.

We enjoyed our trip to Tangier, Morocco. When I called a several days out to confirm with the travel agent I was told there were not enough people yet to make it a go, but to call back on Friday. When I called Friday I was told it was on and they picked us up right at our hotel at the appointed time the next morning. Everything went according to plan and we had a very nice day.

A terrific day. Tour guide in the city of Tangiers was superb with a great grasp of the political history of Tangiers. Food was wonderful as we're the vistas. Highly recommend this tour.

Overall the trip was very well-done. The only part that I would recommend needs to be re thought was the amount of time spent in the rug shop. Felt like my trip was high jacked when we got in and spent an exorbitant amount of time that then interfered with not being able to see all of the sites planned. The Cave of Hercules was the highlight. The Pedros were very helpful. Thanks!

Great tour leader, and bus tour and information was excellent. But cut short shopping time, and overall trip was cut short by 2.5 hours. Billed as a 13 hour trip.

This trip was wonderful. The tour guides were very knowledgeable and the restaurant where we were taken had excellent food. I wasn't sure I would like Moroccan food, but I definitely do. The only negative was we weren't able to see the last item on our day trip due to the "fast ferry" leaving earlier than expected.

The trip gave a flavor of the city. The guides were very good. My only criticism is that I would have liked to have had more time in the Kasba and with the camels and less in the carpet shop! The second part of the tour was very rushed.

A very very interesting trip. Well worth seeing. The tour guides were very key. Their historical knowledge and familiarity with the area was priceless. I would NOT recommend going to Tangiers, especially the "Kasbah" without a tour guide.

Loved it. Easy connection with ferry and through customs. Lunch was very interesting and surprisingly good. Tour was informative. The only down side was we got stuck with over zealous sales people at the rug market. We were interested in looking, but not buying. The group went on without us and we missed the rest of the market place. Beware of showing interest in a product. You can't get away.

Good tour overall... The efficiency of the transport was impeccable, as was the choice of restaurant... Only drawback was the pace at which the tour moved through the Casbah in Tangier... There was barely enough time to take pictures and explore, lest be left behind or lost...

We were picked up 15 minutes late, with a comfortable bus and a nice tourguide who took us safely to the boat. In Tanger we were met by the local guide, Mr. Hassan. The bustour in and around Tanger was nice, but when the bus was parked and we should have some time in Tanger's old town Hassan ran through the streets not paying any attention to the group. His first stop was in a nice restaurant were the service and food was good, then we ran to a big shop were we had too much time with some very pushy salesmen - who tempted only a very few to do some shopping. This probably made Hassan angry, when we arrived at the teahouse (running again) he sneered at the french guide and some of the guests. A very unpleasant man. And the NICE shops in Tanger had to do without our visit - if we should keep up with our guide.

The trip was very disappointing. It was really set up as an attempt to sell tourists rugs and merchandise in Tangier. This was not a tour but a manipulative attempt at sales. All of us on the tour felt very sorry for the poverty that the Tangier people live in but we did not want to be manipulated or pushed to buy merchandise. I would have much prefered it if we were asked to make a donation to the people of Tangier instead. It appeared that the guide in Tangier (Hass?) had a relationship with the local people and he seemed to be part of the pressure tactics used on tourists. The rug shop we visited was actually meant to pressure people to buy rugs - it was one long sales presentation. When we left the store we were not aware that the shop owner and employees kept 2 young women in the store and pressured them to buy rugs. When the rest of us became aware that the 2 women were missing from the group the guide told us not to worry about them. The 2 young women did catch up with us at the bus at the end of the tour and they were angry that they had been kept from the group. The 2 women were in the upper floor of the shop and manipulated to stay behind. When they asked where the tour group was they were told that we were on the first floor waiting for them and that we would not leave without them. They were diliberately mislead inorder to keep them in the store in the hopes that they could be pressured into buying something. It was a waste of money and time.

We were the first ones to be picked up at 5:20am. By the time everyone was picked up it was 7:30am. The bus driver drove safely and the hydrofoil to Tangier was overall smooth and comfortable except fo a little roughness before reaching Tangier. The guide made sure the group understood when and where we were all to meet and communicated clearly. The local guide in Tangier spoke well, but I feel we spent a little too much time seeing the old district of this city. The Moroccan lunch was delightful in a nice restaurant. However, we were than taken to a carpet factory and had to spend one hour waiting there, something we had no interest in doing. Others in the group seem to have the same sentiment. Because of this there was not much time to see other parts of Tangier.

There are so many things to see and do in Costa del Sol, don't waste your day on this full day tour. Our pick up location was at the Cancelada round about. It was at 7am, and the roundabout was pinch black dark ... not a single street light. We did not feel safe waiting for the transportation. Secondly, we do not feel that we "saw" anything on this tour. We spent most of our time walking quickly through the Casbah and the market ... without any time to stop, shop, and look around. We were taken to one "official shopping stop, and spent way too much time there (feeling trapped). The included lunch was nice, food was good. The stop (in a parking lot) for a quick camel ride was fine. The final stop at some sea caves (filled with souvenier vendors) was fine. Tour guides were fine, just not alot to see. The street vendors that never left your side were simply annoying, but not dangerous.

The ferry took a lot longer than 35 minutes both ways. The food in the Moroccan restaurant was a bit disappointing and the tip for the musicians was compulsory almost, so the food might be included in the price but you still have to pay for your drink and the tip. Also the length of time allocated for the carpet store was too excessive. Apart from that, it was a decent tour and I'd recommend to friends.

Great trip. It was a long day- but totally worth it. Picked up in front of our hotel at 5:50am. Our bus guide was nice, but at times would come across a little rude- I think it was just stressful when getting off the ferry and going through customs in Morocco- didn't want anyone getting lost or anything. Our guide in Morocco was amazing. Everyone was very friendly. The people selling stuff on the street can be a little overwhelming- but you have to remember- this is their culture (its the same if you go to Egypt/Turkey). Just say no and keep walking.... This little taste of Tangier makes me want to come back to Morocco to see the rest of the country....

Perhaps the best trip I have evr booked with Viator. The value was outstanding. We got so much into one day it was unbelievable. The guide in Morrocco was the best I have ever had. He was passionate about his City and it made for an excellent experience for those in his group. He was quite knowlegeable and easy to understand. He also managed tomake the experience unique to everyone in the group - found out what each of us wanted to do in allotted free time and made it happen. I was very impressed and highly recommend this to tour to everyone.

My trip certainly did not live up to all the rave reviews I read on your website before I booked. Our tourguide on the bus was great and helpful but once in Tangiers he handed us off to a most arragant, opinionated guide who only answered the questions he wanted and shunned those of us who wanted a less macho response. Of course we were hounded to buy by street vendors who would not leave us alone. I was expecting a real Moroccan couscous but instead got bland mush for dinner. The soup could have been out of a Campbell's can it was that bad. Dessert was the only good part. Obviously the rug store was a set up and nod very well done. It was a hard sell with no information on the actual rug making. I have had a wonderful experience in a Turkish rug place and know how it can be done. With exception of one clerk the men were rude and their merchandise poor quality and overpriced. Some of the things we got a glimps of ie the men who did all the sewing and the beautiful fabrics and notions made the trip interesting. And the camels were friendly!

We found this trip to be very interesting. We drove through several areas of the city, and ate at a restaurant with authentic food and entertainment. The only negative thing was when we were taken to the carpet sales and spice sales. We always feel like these are "engineered." We asked to go to the souk instead. We don't like the high-pressure sales.

This is a very interesting tour, especially if you want to get a taste of North African culture. The boat ride wasn't too long and the entrance into Morocco via customs was made simple by our guide handling everything. The tour consists of a lot of walking so wear proper footwear. Expect to be approached by merchants trying to sell you everything. We took this in stride and just accepted it as part of the life as there are a lot of open markets and this is to be expected. We stopped at a fabulous restaurant which was ornately decorated and the food was delicious and, of course, traditionally and authentically Moroccon served with waiters in their traditional dress and even a belly dancer. We then visited a large gallery which sold gorgeous carpets, leather and wooden goods, etc. and we also had a demonstration about the carpets. We visited an apothecary which also gave us a demonstration on what all of the spices, oils, and herbs were used for. Got some really good deals on herbs, oils, vases, etc. The bus tour around Tangier covered the more elite and richer part of Tangier as well as the more common and poorer areas which gave you such a contrast. Along the way to Tangier we stopped at a viewpoint for a very short break where you could get a camel ride and take some photos of the stunning beaches which seem to stretch on for miles. The Viator bus picked us up at the scheduled time and the guide was informative and friendly and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Extra tour guides joined us in Tangier too to ensure the group stayed together and to guide us through the mesmerising streets of Tangier. I would highly recommend this tour!

I was a bit apprehensive about booking this trip over the internet with a company I did not know. When I had a question, I called and the staff was very helpful and courteous. The tour guide and other tour staff were very professional and made me and my daughters feel very comfortable and safe as Tanger and the border crossing could be overwhelming. This trip met all my expectations!
