Kakadu, Nourlangie and Yellow Waters Tour with Optional Arnhem Land Flight

Darwin, Australia

Discover the magic of Australia's Kakadu National Park on this full day trip from Darwin. Cruise along the famous Yellow Waters, while looking out for crocodiles on the riverbank and visit Nourlangie Rock famed for its ancient Aboriginal rock art. Top it all off with an optional scenic flight over the remote Arnhem Land Escarpment, giving you a birds-eye view of the spectacular Northern Territory wilderness.

Visit the Top End (Northern Territory) to discover Australia's most famous national park - Kakadu. Your full day you will depart from Darwin and travel to Kakadu National Park, which covers some 20,000 square kilometers making it Australia's largest national park.

Kakadu's vast wetlands and ancient escarpment are home to one of Australia's largest and most diverse bird populations and hold outstanding natural and cultural significance. Take an optional 50-minute scenic flight over the Arnhem Land Escarpment. Then join a guided cruise on Yellow Water billabong. Keep an eye out for the wildlife, including crocodiles.

See rock art sites at Nourlangie Rock. The name 'Nourlangie' is an anglicized version of Nawurlandja. The most famous rock art picture at Nourlangie is called Namondjok and for some Aboriginal groups he is a Creation Ancestor who now lives in the sky and can be seen only at night, when he appears as a dark spot in the Milky Way galaxy. En route to Darwin, stop at Window on the Wetlands Visitor Centre to learn about the wildlife, seasonal changes, the various animal groups and local Aboriginal and European history. Enjoy complimentary drinks with stunning views over the floodplains.

After a mix-up in the scheduling, the trip went well.

Thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see a part of Kakadu but has limited time. Our guide for the day, Luke, was fantastic! He was informative, very knowledgeable and took time to point out the not so obvious wildlife along the way.

A memorable day especially the cruise on Yellow Waters with the wonderful guide Dean who steered the boat so all people could view the crocodiles from all angles and the amazing bird life and waterlilies and lotus flowers were beautiful. Buffet lunch was good at Cooinda. Enjoyed the guided walk to Nourlangie and the rock paintings were a highlight to see. The sunset viewed from Window on the Wetland finished the day spectacularly. We would definitely recommoend this trip to others.

Nice trip in the Kakadu park. It's a huge park, so a lot of road to do. I loved the scenic flight (first time), especially over the waterfalls. The crocodile was spectacular in the yellow waters. I recommend this tour (with the scenic flight)

Everything was great the bus driver was very knowledgeable. The only thing I could fault would be the lack of fresh or cool air on the flight. It was very very hot and humid with no air relief at all and toward the end made you feel a little ill. Highly recommended this trip to all my friends. The yellow water cruise was lovely and again the guide was full of wonderful information. Lunch was nice but very rushed. Overall excellent. Thanks.

For anyone with only one day to travel to Kakadu, this bus tour is an absolute MUST. The natural wonders of this awe-inspiring part of the Top End are amazing - something that all Australians and visitors should experience if they have the chance, I would also highly recommend the optional flight over Arnhem Land - seeing this vast ancient land from the air is a real privilege and gives another perspective on the vast size of Kakadu. Booking through Viator was easy and professionally-managed and the organisation and service on the tour was excellent. I don't normally do organised bus tours, but I was very impressed with every part of this day's itinerary. The Yellow Waters cruise was fantastic for seeing huge crocodiles up close, plus dozens of varieties of birds. There was also time for an easy bush walk in the Nourlangie Rock area with the added wonder of seeing aboriginal cave paintings. The tour finished with drinks and nibbles overlooking the wetlands outside Darwin and a magnificent Top End sunset.

The flight over Kakadu national park was fantastic and the guided tour on Yellow Waters was very educational and well worth it. There was plenty of birdlife, cocodiles and dingo that starteled all the birds. While it is a long day, there were frequent stops for refreshments. Take plenty of water plus a camera with you.

This tour was excellent and well worth it. Kakadu is too big to do by yourself and the amenities and staff were exceptional. The tour guide made sure we were well hydrated and full of local knowledge. The flight over Arnhem land although an additional cost is a must. The flight was magical seeing more of the land than possible from the ground. Every seat in the plane has a window and the captain was very knowledgeable. Yellow waters cruise was nice and relaxing and a great way to come up close to the crocodiles in the water. The Buffet lunch was very filling and plenty of time to relax before moving onto the next location. Ending the day at Window on the Wetlands with wine tasting was a nice way to end the day. The tour operator was one of the best in Darwin.

Nice. You can see wonderful scenery and aboriginal art. Could be better, did not see crocodiles in Yellow Waters Arnhem land flight was good, but probably expectations were higher. Couch was comfortable, staff perfect in every sense.

This was the highlight of our trip to Darwin and the North Coast. If you have but one day to spare, take this tour. The bus driver was fantastic and provided a lot of local information. Being an avid photographer, the yellow water tour far exceeded my expectations for Birds and Crocks and the Arnhem flight tied all the information together for a great NT trip. My hats off to the tourcompany for a job well done!

Scenic Flight is definitely worth doing - Kakadu and Arnhem Land just goes on forever - can really only appreciate the vastness by air. Shame the CD with commentary was jumpy though. Wouldn't recommend more than 50 minute flight as it can get bumpy and quite hot in there. The 2 hour Yellow Waters cruise was sensational - brilliant commentary by ranger. Buffet lunch was great - large range and plenty to go around. Nourlangie Rock and cave art a must see - would've liked to see older paintings though. The guides were entertaining and knowledgeable. The cheese and wine at the end was a lovely touch to end an excellent day!

The cruise was perhaps longer than it could have been, but if you like bird watching you'll love it. The Nourlangie climb was a highlight. Our driver was very knowledgable. We had an excellent introduction to Kakadu. Lunch was good too!

We were frustrated because our bus driver tour guide spoke very badly and we could hardly hear him. Even after requests to speak up he soon reverted back. He would begin each sentence clearly but then trail away to a mumble and we spent an exhausting day straining to hear what he was saying. We had a different driver/guide on the way back and he was worse. He would begin his sentence and then stop, leaving you hanging on, waiting and waiting for him to complete what he was saying. Both drivers where however very pleasant, appeared to have a wealth of knowledge, and had good pronunciation but this complete lack of delivery really soured our experience because it was so frustrating. I feel a simple bit of training would solve this problem easily and wonder why the company does not do this.

Our trip was fantastic until we were stranded for three hours at an overflowing creek. Our tour operator uses a Mercedes bus with a low fuse box, which forbids the driver to pass through anything more than ten inches of water. After three hours, our group was rescued by a passing tour bus from another company. Using this bus in "wet season" shows total disregard for the customers. The driver stated this was not a rare occurrence.

Good drivers, nice coach, convenient pick up. However there was little stand-out experience in the day. The aboriginal paintings were fine, but once you've seen one, you've seen them all. The Yellow Water part of the trip was the best, but it could have been shorter, allowing a later pick-up in the morning.

The bus operator had a polished, informative and entertaining talk, as well as nature DVDs to fill in the long drive to/from Darwin. The highlights are the cruise on the Yellow Water estuary (from a self-confessed bird nerd) and the huge termite mounds.
