Dublin Historical Walking Tour including Trinity College

Dublin, Ireland

Few cities wear history on its sleeve like Dublin does! The Historical Walking Tour has been acclaimed as a must-do tour for any visitor to Dublin and starts at Trinity College main gates. It takes in the grounds of Trinity College, Old Irish Parliament, Dublin Castle, City Hall, the Medieval and Viking quarter centered around Christ Church Cathedral and finishes in the old port of Temple Bar on the banks of the River Liffey.

Your guide has a passion for all aspects of history and will be delighted to discuss anything which might be of interest to you. Dublin combines a medieval city with the most stately of eighteenth century architecture and a thriving contemporary cultural scene. Behind the doorways, at every street corner there are reminders of the characters - revolutionary, literary and others - who imagined the city.

In just 2 hours, this entertaining 'seminar on the street' conducted by history graduates of Trinity College Dublin, explores the main features of Irish history - Dublin's development, the influence of the American and French Revolutions, the Potato Famine 1845 - 1849, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and concludes with the Northern Ireland peace process.

Great introduction to Dublin. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. There is so much history. This tour is great for adults and teenagers. We were with our 12 year old son and it was a little too long for him, but his admission was free. My only complaint is that the group was too big- around 24 people.

My sister and I recently visited Dublin and booked this walking tour for our first morning. We couldn't have made a better choice! Galvin was our tour guide and he was amazing. This is the perfect way to get some background on the rich history of Dublin and all of Ireland before you begin to explore on your own. Book this tour!

This tour started well, and the guide was very knowledgeable (a postgraduate of Trinity College, in history and gaelic). However, the tour was too long, and the steady rain that developed over the afternoon (and the guide's unwillingness to seek shelter), resulted in boredom and discomfort.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

Wonderful, well worth doing as the guides give you a wonderful insight into the history of Dublin, but Ireland as well.

Don't miss out on the opportunity to walk with a gifted historian. In two hours, we learned about the entire history of Ireland from an engaging, experienced tour guide. It was a really highlight of our visit to Dublin.

Too much talking and not enough walking!! I have taken many walking tours throughout the world. This was the worst. The guide kept stopping in remote corners on the street or in a building and talked way too much. We barely got to see Dublin. I would NOT recommend this tour if you would like to see any of the sites in Dublin.

Very informative and entertaining but a little slow a times. We were also very tired by then. I would suggest the morning tour. A very good way to orient yourself for further exploration on your own.

Really enjoyable tour, with a little walking and really interesting history story. My wife, said she was tired and going to find a place to sit and I could meet her at the end. She was so wrapped up in the narrative by our guide that, tired as she was, she was there at the end. A very good investment in our time and money.

I guess it was bad timing but some highlights were closed, like Trinity College, because of the "Queen's" visit. The tour was fine, but the tour guide spent a lot of time talking about Irish politics and not so much about the features we were visiting.

The tour was not as expected as the Queen was visiting the next day and both Trinity College and Dublin Castle were closed for security reasons. Our tour guide more than made up for these problems by amending the tour contents and provided a very entertaining and informative tour which was enjoyed by all of us.

The historical information shared by the guide was fascinating, but I'd like to have had more stops that were relevant to the conversation. Most were, but one stop in particular reeked of urine and we were there for about 20 minutes.

The most informative and interesting tour I've been on in a long time. Having a PhD with a sense of humor as the guide made the history more alive. Being introduced to the best cup of coffee in Dublin topped it off for me!

You have to really like history in order to appreciate this tour. We were hoping to take a tour to get an introduction to the city and see some of the bigger sites. We did see them about 4 places total including the college, Christchurch, and Dublin Castle and at each place we were given about 20 minutes of history. If you like history then that's great, but if you tend to be bored by history then this probably is not the tour for you. I thought it went on a little long at times, and the tourguide was not terribly entertaining. Obviously the tour is called a "historical walking tour" - just be warned that that's what it is, more so than a way to get to know the city.

We met our tour guide outside the door at Trinity College, and had a fun paced walking tour with a good bit of Irish history from a lovely informed young lady . She had been a student for years at Trinity and was very knowlegable and well spoken for all to hear. We got good insight into the forming and history of Dublin and Ireland. We were glad that we did it on our first full day . Midway through the tour, we stopped for bathroom breaks and to settle the tour bill. The Viator printed voucher made this quick and easy. We're so glad that the four of us took this tour!
