Dublin Literary Pub Crawl

Dublin, Ireland

Immerse yourself in Dublin's rich literary heritage and enjoy a few pints along the way on a literary pub crawl through Dublin. This walking tour is a wonderful introduction to Dublin's literary past and exciting pub culture.

On this tour that's as educational as it is recreational, you'll embark on an animated and entertaining journey through the sights and sounds that inspired great Irish writers including James Joyce, George Bernard Shaw, Brendan Behan, Sean O'Casey, Samuel Beckett, Oscar Wilde and W.B. Yeats - not forgetting modern scribes like Seamus Heaney, Eavan Boland, Paula Meehan and Brendan Kennelly.

Kicking off at the Duke Pub on Duke Street, this literary pub crawl will take you to famous pubs and haunts while actors recite verses from the best Irish literature. You can sink a pint while learning about the lives of these great writers and hear some of the hilarious stories that became folklore in Dublin's literary circles.

Fun and a great way to be introduced to the writers and poets history in Dublin.

First of all, the literary content was very good, but there was not enough of it._br/_ If you like a pub crawl with 20 minutes in each pub, with about 5 min literary interlude in betwen, then this tour is perfect for you._br/_ I would have preferred much more literary content, and less drinking time, but perhaps I was expecting a walking tuype tour rather than a pub crawl._br/_ However the 2 guides/actors were very entertaining.

Did not enjoy as it was too drawn out, we had to wait until the end of the crawl to learn anything when it would have been much more informative to learn about what we were seeing when viewing it. By the time you would get your drink in the bar you didn't even have time to finish it and you were off to the next place. Either less bars and more time or just stay at one or two and enjoy the local color

This is a fantastic Pub Crawl and well worth every penny I paid for it. It is a must do experience for anyone visiting Dublin. With lots of humour as well as Dublin Literary facts not too mention the odd pint or two. It sadly marked the end of an excellent long weekend.

Very disappointing. We got left behind at the second pub. Maybe a head count or let people know where the next pub is so that they can check map and catch up.

Very enjoyable tour! I really like being introduced or re-introduced to a number of key literary figures from the Dublin area and hearing stories about their time there. I can recommend this one.

Very much enjoyed this tour for the money. However, if you expect to actually be IN the pubs while the actors share their literary factoids, forget it - most of the tour/storytelling took place on the street near the pubs. We would hear the "stories" then be sent inside on our own for a drink - very boring. We thought we be enjoying a pint whilst listening to literary facts related to that particular pub. Not even close; but entertaining, even if not as advertised.

Actors were good but not sure the relevancy of the pubs. One pub they took us to was so busy we waited outside for 20 mins while the actors had a drink! Also they do a lot of the talk on the street so you need good hearing!

This was an excellent addition to my trip to Dublin. The tour was just the right length and the guides were hilarious. There was a history tour done by the same group but didn't have time. Will put on the list for the next trip. Would recommend.

It would have been nicer to have more time in the pubs. I know it's a 2.5hr tour, but it would've been beneficial to make it longer just to get some extra time!

Very entertaing - great guides with strong acting abilty and a good range of pubs but a little too crowded on the Saturday night to have relaxing drink at each pub.

Excellent. My favorite activity in Dublin. The character actors were fun and engaging. The actual pub crawl distance is short and you get to see some different pubs.

The literary pub crawl in Dublin was a hoot. The actors were fabulous. Their scene selections were "spot-on". I'm spending the next year reading the works of many of the authors works presented. Booking through Viator made it a snap. Directions and time were accurate and it was easy to find the starting point. Visited 4 pubs and several "literary" spots in the area. My only problem was picking a Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend that was also the semifinals weekend for Irish football! What a crowd!

The actors were definitely knowledgeable and had plenty worth saying, but it would be nice to see them act out more scenes from the writers quoted. Most of all, we would have liked to have heard an explanation of whose work was being presented BEFORE scenes were acted out. Also, while it was neat to have "drinking time" at two of the pubs so we could get to know the other tourists, we would have preferred cultural information or literary information at ALL pubs. Several of us definitely signed up for the tour for the literary aspect, NOT all for the "pub" aspect....

The pubs were very crowded and no space was reserved so apart from the first meeting point in a pub the rest of the talking was done outside - as this was November it was cold - the group was large too but it was interesting.

I took this on the night of the 250th anniversary of Arthur Guiness - not the best of all possible circumstances, I left the tour mid-way but I was nice for what I stayed for.

Wonderful! Two actors lead you through the city, stopping at a few pubs or key locations in the city to read passages or act out scenes from works of Dublin-based writers. There is some friendly competition in the form of a quiz at the end.

Our tour guide actors were great fun and extremely personable. So glad we did this tour!!! Also glad we had a bite to eat beforehand as there was not enough time to eat at any of the pubs, just time for a quick pint.

I would have liked longer at each pub because there was only enough time to have 1 quick drink at each, but if we had longer we probably wouldn't have wanted to move to the next pub at all, they were all brilliant. The guides were very entertaining and acted out scenes from plays and books well, much more fun than when I had to read them in school.
