Edinburgh Paranormal Underground Night Walking Tour

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Be prepared for a spine-chilling experience as you descend beneath Edinburgh's South Bridge on a night walking tour into the underground vaults. During the tour you will hear terrifying and mysterious accounts, corroborated by accounts from psychics and the Ghost Project. You may or may not have your own explanations, but you cannot ignore the experiences of others. An experience could be awaiting you. Chilling? Disturbing? Exciting? Book now to find out.

Your tour focuses on the findings of the Edinburgh Ghost Project that was part of the Edinburgh International Science Festival. So extensive was this study that it made an entry into The Guinness Book of Records. The vaults have been described by the UK's BBC News as "probably the most haunted place in Britain".

The Project confirmed what visitors had known for some time, both visitors and guides have witnessed the spirits of former vault residents, from a little boy to a dreaded malevolent male who stalks groups as they pass through his chambers. Paranormal experiences have taken different forms - touch, sight, sound, smell: all have been provoked. Guests regularly report their experiences, from the eerie to the terrifying, the strange to the inexplicable. Others prefer to forget ...

We booked this tour through Viator on arriving in Edinburgh and finding Mercat tours they informed us our tour had been taken off the listings...gutted we did phone up 24 hours before and it was running then, always call in beforehand! we took the historic vaults tour we did want the niddry wynds tour but it was only available at 10 that evening and we were up the next morning at 6 for an excursion so we had to do the earlier one Amelia our guide was very factual and although it wasn't the tour we booked it was enjoyable i did get what i wanted which was activity of a paranormal kind blowing on my face my jacket tugged and various other un determined accounts we will probably book again and this time do the niddry wynds with the ghostly happenings Mercat do some ace tours and the guides are fantastic just wish we had been able to do our original plan many thanks viator for choosing mercat as the tour company

We had a lot of fun on this tour. I didn't see any ghosts, not even when we got home and looked at the umpteen pictures I took, but it was a great way to spend part of the evening, and the tour guide was very animated and friendly.

I went with my mum and friend and at first wasnt taking it very serious, then the guide gave us the readers in groups and we went into a room and it went to 4 lights, later to be told that this was rare. I had volunteered to take the' last man out ' place and therefore was last into the 'black smiths room', as soon as i entered the room, my body went ice cold, especially at my back and legs, i informed the guide who the informed the group of the room, i moved around but the freezingness (so to say) followed me, my mum put her hand above my head and as she waved it through said she could feel the icy cold patch above me. We left the room and went to 'Mr Boots' room but i was still very drawn to the blacksmith room andas i was the back of the group, i took a look back down the tunnel to the previous room and heard a muffled noise and it got closer and closer, i relised it was rushing footsteps and i will be honest i ran away from it and into the room with the group,The guide had said about Mr Boots and his stomping but these footsteps where not heavy , i was a bit shaken by this but only infomed the guide about it as i left, but my group new of it as my mother had noticed how shaken i was. would recommend.

Excellent tour from start to finish. Guide was very informative and kept us interested. I do believe that in one photo of me there is a ghostly smoking looking figure to the right of me on the photo. COOOOOOL or what!

Had a good time but that was more to do with the people we were with. Tour guide kind of spoilt the atmosphere by advising us he does not believe in ghosts??!!

I was extremely disappointed. Our guide was very informative, however, we only walked through about 5 underground rooms with a candle lit in some of them. We were given a hand set that would light up if we were in the presence of ghosts!!!!

The tour was brilliant! The guide was very informative and it had the right amount of humor. As long as you go with an open mind, it's a good way to spend a few hours in Edinburgh.

It was fantastic, Alex the tour guide was very good and he knew his stuff. The only thing was a family with young children they had to leave I do not think its suitable for under 12. We had taken lots of photographs and found afterwards strange images. Would recommend. Ten out of Ten.

An interesting evening in the vaults listening to stories and also giving the opportunity to walk around on your own for ten minutes with a hand held terminal to see if any spirits. Our guide Alex was a good guide and was fun himself and full of stories.

Very informative especially the history of the vaults. Didn't meet or hear any ghosts though. There were others in the group though that did. On the whole, recommended.

Excellent tour, well worth the money, My Partner was in agony down in the vaults with an ongoing shoulder problem, since then he has had no pain. Also woke up the following morning with the strangest looking bruise on the inside of his arm. Spooky!

I found Edinburgh a very lovely city to visit. The arctions are good and the city is easily travelled around. However, I did find it very expensive, the attractions and eating out for a family, in my case three adults, was quite high, so would be reluctant to trvel back too often.

The lady was nice, but as in all the tours I've experienced in Great Britain, they speak nothing but English. Even if you are o.k. with the language, you'll always get half of the information given.

We have been on various ghost/paranormal tours with Viator and this was one was very different to the rest! Where most of the others have been purely educational, this one takes you to where the activity is and was eerie and we actually felt 'something'. Good luck and enjoy.

This tour was extremely disappointing. There was no practical evidence provided to support any of the guide's statements and in all I found it to be a complete waste of time and money. I would definitely not recommend this tour to anyone.

It was okay. I went to both the underground night walking tour and the ghost hunt tour. They were basically the same. And the times of the tours changed which I wasn't notified about. Also, we weren't informed that night that the graveyard part was taken out of the tour. Big disappointment as that's what I was going for. And having gone on both tours in the same day we discovered that the stories we were told in both tours contradicted each other which made it worse. I would advise anybody who wants to go to perhaps only go to the night one as at least the dark makes it that wee bit better, or else not go at all.

This was a great tour. Our kids aged twelve and fourteen were fascinated, especially as a couple of people on our tour had some very interesting pictures showing orbs of light, which are said to be manifestations of ghosts.

It was listed as being historical and scary. I think expanding on some of the murders which took place would be more interesting than just saying there had been some vague sightings and feelings by recent visitors.
