St Andrews and Fife Small Group Day Trip from Edinburgh

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Pay homage to the home of golf at St Andrews and visit the fishing villages of Fife on a small group day trip from Edinburgh. With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, you are sure to have a memorable and personal experience on this special day trip to St Andrews and Fife.

Your day trip takes you across the famous Forth Road Bridge, giving you a great view of the spectacular Forth Rail Bridge, until recently the longest cantilever bridge in the world.

Once over the bridge you'll enter the Kingdom of Fife, an isolated peninsula surrounded by the waters of the Firth of Forth, the Firth of Tay and the North Sea. The highlight is the area known as East Neuk. The small fishing villages hugging the coastline here were infamous as a paradise for smugglers.

You'll then stop in Crail before traveling to the medieval town of St Andrews, the capital of the Scottish Church for almost 1,000 years and home to the oldest university in Scotland (600 years), attended by Prince William.

St Andrews is most famously the home of golf, with the Old Course just off the town center. You will have several hours to explore this famous town.

From St Andrews, you'll take a pleasant drive through central Fife to Falkland. Falkland Palace dominates this old village, and was one of the main residences of the old royal family of Scotland. Returning to Edinburgh you will cross the Lomond Hills and pass Loch Leven, where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are Europe's last great wilderness! This personalized tour is as close as you can get to touring in your own car, with the added benefit of gaining intimate knowledge of Scotland. Traveling in a small group means you can take lots of stops and reach "out of the way" places, giving you more time off the bus to discover the real Scotland.

Winner of the Inaugural Scottish Thistle Award for Sustainable Tourism, October 2007.

The trip was nice, but I think it should be cheaper due to the early darkness in the winter season!

This was a fantastic day trip and I would highly recommend it for anyone with limited time in Scotland. If you are interested in a short history of Scotland, visiting the 'home of golf' at St Andrews and viewing some amazing scenery. Take this tour without hesitation. The guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and provided enough interesting Scottish history without bombarding you with too much information. I loved it!

We enjoyed the trip, but wish we could have just gone to St. Andrews for the entire time. WE felt like the stops at Anstruther and Falkland were sort of a waste of time. Our guide/driver was very informative.

This was a very wonderful trip, very educational, besides the tour guide being very generous with his stops for photos. The places we visited were absolutely beautiful and to our surprise we even stopped in a little village named Falkland, which in our mind had to be the most beautiful gardens in Scotland. Fabulous. It was our favorite day!

If you only have one day to visit St. Andrews, and you don't want to linger too long, this is a very good tour. Although, we didn't have a long time in St. Andrews itself, we really enjoyed this tour, especially the scenery driving through the little towns along the way in the "Kingdom of Fife". We had the opporutnity to visit the Falkland Castle which was our first castle visit in Scotland. Our guide "Ali" made the tour really interesting. We were amazed at his detailed descriptions, of historical events and memorable dates, as well as his wealth of knowledge about the Fife area. He also introduced us to Scotland's Celebrity - no ....not Sean Connery, but Scotland's hairy cow, "Hamish". _br/_ Debbie - Canada

This is truly an old Medival city. The remains of the cathedral and the castle on the North Sea were amazing to see. Walking through St. Andrews University was a great experience. It was worth it to view the golf course where golf first began. We traveled threw little fishing villages on our way to St. Andrews with our guide, Ollie, giving us a history lesson.

A great way to see the Scottish coast and St. Andrews. Would have liked a little longer time in St. Andrews but overall it was a wonderful day. Our guide Sara was funny, informative, and especially caring when one member of the group did not return to our meeting point on time. Highly recommend this excursion!!

St. Andrews was the most beautiful place I visited while in Scotland. No words could do it justice. This tour was my favourite and I would recommend it to everyone. Bob was our guide and he was funny and informative. Kept the whole bus laughing and joking the entire time. We also visited Falkland Palace in Fife, it was amazing and furnished with original furniture and accessories. It stood out from all the other castles and palaces. Beautiful and enjoyable tour, well worth your time and money!

Weather was lovely (apparently it always is in this part of Scotland). My guide was terrific and as I was the only passenger, it was a very friendly and casual journey through the countryside, but I still was treated to learning about the historical, social and popular culture points of interest of the towns visited. St Andrews was amazing and being able to spend 3 hours here was just right. I also found a very decent cup of coffee in a quaint cafe in Anstruther. Worth coming back for!

Weather was perfect and so was rest of the tour. We had much time in St Andrews, although I'd recommend taking your own lunch so you will have even more time and don't spend time waiting for service on restaurants. Overall trip worth taking with not too much time sitting on the bus.

The whole trip was very enjoyable. The commentary by tour guide, Andre was very interesting and informative. It really gave me a glimpse into history of Fife and overall Scotland. Plus, he gave information about towns or places as we passed them, giving a touch of spontaneity to it. Overall a well planned trip and a very good experience.
