Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond Small Group Day Trip from Edinburgh

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Travel to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond in style on a small-group tour by Mercedes minivan from Edinburgh. With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, you are sure to have a memorable and personal experience on this special excursion to Stirling and Loch Lomond.

Stirling Castle was Scotland's most important medieval stronghold and is set high on a volcanic outcrop. There has been fortification on the rock since 1000 BC, as it guards the main route north into the Scottish Highlands. You have the option of visiting the castle to see some of the finest Renaissance architecture in Scotland.

Leaving Stirling, you'll travel past Doune Castle, Callander and into the Trossachs, an area popularized by authors such as Sir Walter Scott and Daniel Defoe. This is also the territory of Rob Roy MacGregor, Scotland's Robin Hood. The tour stops for a leisurely lunch (own expense) outside the village of Aberfoyle.

Continuing along the spectacular single track road to Inversnaid, originally an old droving route the Highlanders, you'll pass Lochs Ard, Chon, Arklet and Katrine. Inversnaid, by Loch Lomond, is home to a nature reserve owned by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

You will have about 1.5 hours at Loch Lomond, to either join your guide for a walk to the viewpoint overlooking the loch or enjoy a wee dram of whisky in the hotel whilst taking in the views. In the summer, there is also an option to take a one-hour boat cruise to the north end of the loch.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are Europe's last great wilderness! This personalized tour is as close as you can get to touring in your own car, with the added benefit of gaining intimate knowledge of Scotland. Traveling in a small group means you can take lots of stops and reach "out of the way" places, giving you more time off the bus to discover the real Scotland.

Winner of the Inaugural Scottish Thistle Award for Sustainable Tourism, October 2007.

Overall great tour. The castle was a bit bare as castles go, but the details they have and are adding were well explained by great castle staff. The driver/guide was awesome. She stopped to feed some highland cows an apple and we got to pet them like they were big puppy-dogs. Also had a few stops in small towns where the people in the pubs and shops were lovely and the food was great.

Myself and my partner booked on this trip as part of a long weekend to Edinburgh . Our driver and Guide was Karen who was very informative and friendly . The scenery once the mist had cleared was amazing . I would go again without a doubt and would recommend anyone else visiting scotland to try one of these tours

This was the perfect day trip! Eric, our tour guide, was excellent - I wish I could have kept him along for the rest of our time in Edinburgh. His wealth of knowledge about his home country from a cultural, historical, geological, and political perspective is what made this day so special. I hope other tour guides and people can learn from his knowledge._br/_ The sites are impressive too, even in winter. Stirling castle was everything we expected it to be and the quaintness of the Highlands was the perfect contradiction to our city visit. Viator and Rabbies made this incredibly easy and I would travel again with these organizations.

Really enjoyable tour. Stirling castle was beautiful and we went places I would not have discovered on my own after living in Scotland for 2 years. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area. This would be a 5 start rating if the Wallace mounument was included on the tour.

The day trip was thoroughly enjoyable. The guide was great with his narrative of Scottish history. It was both delightful and educational. The fact that the weather was great only added to the experience. I would highly recommend to anyone.

The tour itself was great, the tour guide (James) was unbelievable. However the company only gives one hour at Stirling Castle, and two would be more appropriate for the size of the thing. Bring comfortable walking/hiking shoes if you want the best views of the Loch.

Unfortunately I was left stranded at Stirling Castle (through no fault of my own) and did not have the opportunity to go onto Loch Lomond. As I only had 4 days in Edinburgh this put a dampener on my trip - as it was really the only reason for my going in the first place - to go to Loch Lomond. The company did refund the cost of the Loch Lomond part of the trip - but at my age I do not think I will ever get back. The Stirling Castle part of the trip lived up to my expectations - the bus driver had excellent information - but hopefully this was a one off situation for the driver and the company.

van was HOT and the air vents did not work! Driver played music between talks and it was not pleasant. Could have used the peace and quiet to enjoy the countryside. Or he could have been giving us a tour of where we were. Would have loved more time at Stirling Castle and less at Loch. Not impressed with Loch Lomond. Update your vans or make sure they are in working condition.

My husband and I thought that this was one of the best castles that we had seen. Loch Lomond is a beautiful, restful place. We saw amazing countryside with our informative guide, Sarah; plus, it was a sunny day. This tour is worth taking if like castles, lochs, and beautiful countryside.

Veryyyy Good. _br/_ Our guide basically knew everything about everything. He could tell a tale or facts about pretty much anything in the scenery around us or anything to do with Scotland, Scottish history, Nature, plants and much more. His name was Mac. When he wasnt reeling out the facts he was playing traditional highland music which related to something he was talking about. He was also traditionally dressed which if im honest i think he wears that even when hes not doing the tours by the sound of his own interesting expeditions. We went on a 40 minute or so mini hike up to the top of a hill looking down onto Loch Lomond. When we got to the top despite the rain our guide just perched onto a rock and whacked out his bagpipes and started playing away. Everything was so chilled. Youll enjoy really enjoy this tour if your not a boring sod.

The tour was wonderful in every way. The driver/guide was knowledgeable and pleasant and an excellent driver. The tour operator was the best from a clean, comfortable coach to changing our date at no charge due to a flight problem. We were amazed by Stirling Castle, about which we had no real expectations, and the countryside through which we drove was beautiful. It was a perfect tour choice for our day out of the city.

If you visited Edinburgh castle you won't find Stirling that much different. Our driver was very friendly and knew alot of the history of Scotland. I did the Loch Ness/Glencoe tour the next day which was my favourite as you really see alot. If you want to see more of Scotland it is better not to do this tour with the Loch Ness/Gencoe tour as they cover some of the same places.

Rabbies tours were fantastic. If you are lucky enough to get Mckenzie as your driver you will have a sensational time. He will have you in fits of laughter with his story telling. The tour through the higlands is magical. The histo ry and exterior of Stirling Castle was also great but I will leave it up to you of what you think of the restoration of Stirling Castle inside!!! A great day tour!!!

Sorry but this was a BIG disappointment. The coach wasn't as comfortable as we thought it would be, the destinations too spaced out, the guide far too voluble and loud as was the so called Scottish folk and pop music. We thought the entry fee was included to (brilliant) Stirling Castle : it wasn't. We were expecting a fine lunch venue. It wasn't. The final destination was boring, a total waste of time. For what we paid - having treated our hosts too - we all felt we had not had value for money. Sorry: while they use those coaches we wont be indulging again. in this tour operator....and sadly not with that guide who, though she meant well, needs to be re-trained in how to conduct a tour.. as my teachers used to say about most of my school reports 60 years ago 'Could do better' except that I would now add the words MUCH BETTER ! Better coaches, better thought into the destinations involved, better training of the guide ... and that's just for starters....

The trip was excellent! The bus was full abd comfortable. Our driver/guide (Richard) was friendly, safe, knowledgeable and kept the tour on schedule. The views along the route were awesome. Stirling Castle is a must-see piece of history. And how amazing is it to stand on the "bonnie banks of Loch Lomond" that I've sung about all my life! Thanks for a memorable and enjoyable day!

What a wounderful day. Our driver/guide James passed on his passionate love of Scotland to us. Stirling Castle is amazing and getting out at Loch Lomond to walk in the beautiful setting was a joy._br/_ James was very helpful and gave us some great ideas for other things to do. He advised if you wanted to see scottish dancing and hear traditional music to go on Tuesday evening to the Bongo Club in Edinburgh. We went and had a great night.

This was a fantastic trip. The guide was knowledgeable and personable, and I especially liked that he took care to make personal conversation with everyone. Beautiful, beautiful scenery and Stirling Castle was wonderful. This trip was a wonderful taste of Scotland and made me want to book the longer, extended day trips or at the very least other one day trips. Highly recommend.

Ian, our gudedriver was great. The castle was beautiful and they allowed access all over. This could of been alloted a little more time. Now it was okey because part of the castle was being restored so you could not go there anyway.

Pick-up point was very easy to find but let me say that the day trip was very much fun and well worth the price. The driver was so knowledgeable, very friendly and made the trip quite a lot of fun. The country side is so pretty, the castles so interesting and the driver knew of some off the beaten path spots. In all, a great value and added so much to our 4 days in Edinburgh.
