Chianti Region Wine Tasting Half-Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

Combine wine-tasting and a country drive through magnificent Tuscan landscapes on an afternoon excursion to Chianti. This popular Tuscan region is universally acclaimed for its classic wines and natural beauty. You'll discover a magical world of woods alternating with vines and olive trees, Romanesque churches, medieval farmhouses, Renaissance villas and castles.

A highlight of the tour is your visit to an ancient Tuscan town and one of Chianti's most renowned wine-growing estates. Here, you'll receive insights into the local wine-growing traditions and sample three prestigious wines: Chianti Classico, Chianti Reserve and Vin Santo dessert wine. The wines are accompanied by local traditional snacks.

The wine tasting includes three glasses of wine including Classic Chianti, Chianti Reserve and Vin Santo. You'll also taste some Italian snacks such as mixed Crostini with Pecorino cheese, Cantucci di Prato (anise-flavored almond biscotti) and children are served snack with fruit juice.

The wine-tasting tours are carried out in different areas of the Chianti region, and the trip from Florence to Chianti is approximately 40 minutes each way.

Excellent trip. Well worth the half day from Florence. You get to see the countryside, the rolling hills of the wine country and go to an amazing 1000+ year old castle that has been turned into a working modern day winery. Then you get to do an authentic food pairing with your wine sampling and go to a small town in the heart of the Tuscan region. Great trip!

What a lovely tour. Just right with the half day and the vineyard was beautifully located with tasty wine, nibbles and the cleanest, most beautiful toilets in Europe. Good coach, driver and tour guide. Well worth it.

The Tuscany/Chianti wine region is absolutely beautiful. The presentation at the winery was outstanding, as was the wine tasting itself. The guide on the motor coach was just "OK". I would recommend this tour.

The tour guide was amazing- she was funny yet very informative and I was completely amazed at how beautiful everything was! I highly recommend this tour- not only did she tell us about how they make their famous wines, but she also described how they make their olive-oil which was so interesting!

Wine tasting was wonderful and guide was very gracious once we arrived and knowledgeable. Totally enjoyed the wine tour and snacks and company. The guide on the bus was horrendous and spent more time on her cell phone and talking to the bus driver. She maybe told us 20 facts the entire trip. On the way home we were dropped off in a small village where most of the stores were closed and told to stay 45 minutes. Total waste of our time. So to make this trip better.. new guide on bus.. Keep the visit to the winery.. and add something else for the ride home or include a trip to a place that makes olive oil or a garden or hike.

My wife and I took this trip recently. Being off season we were about 12 people which made it very convenient. The guide warned us that she speaks far too much and she was right. The trip was very enjoyable. The village enroute was charming. The countryside was beautiful though not in full bloom. The castle we visited was quaint and the guide who took us thru was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. A good price for an afternoon well spent.

This tour was amazing. The bus picked us up right outside the train station which was so convenient. The winery guide was absolutely amazing. You could tell she truly loved her job, and made the tour perfect. The wine and food and stories were out of this world. Would do it again in a second!

We had a great time, the wine was awesome, the goodies are affordable in the shop at the end of your tour! This made traveling to Florence so awesome, probably more culturally preserved than Rome! I'd go again, why not?

This was a wonderful trip, we enjoyed the countryside and the afternoon at the Castle was very memorable. The only regret is that we had so little time in Greve it would have been good to have another 1/2 hour or so

It was fantastic! We had a blast. It was the perfect way to get out of Florence for a few hours and see the countryside. We had a little trouble because we couldn't print the vouchers, but they were fine since we had the numbers.

This was my first wine tasting and it was amazing. I loved this experience and would do the same one again. The snacks and wine portions were perfect. They even gave you a taste of the olive oil they make and it was so good I had to buy a bottle to take home. It's always nice to know what you are eating and where it came from.

Great tour! Guide was excellent, and it wasn't just a tasting - there were four bottles to share between 7 people so there was plenty to go around at the vineyard. Gorgeous views of the Chianti region, better than you could imagine!

This tour exceeded my expectations, and I definitely recommend it! It was easy to find the meeting point, and the group did not have more than about 40 people. After the short tour of the vineyard, they seated us at round tables and we were able to do a food and wine tasting with three or four of their wines paired with some meats, cheeses and breads. It was a really fun afternoon.

Overall we had a great time tourin the Chateau, learning about Chianti production, and soaking in the stunning views of the far off vineyards. I think the tour could be enhanced by cutting out the first village/rest stop for the "Tuscany" experience. It was a run down little town, with nothing notable of interest, I would have enjoyed more time at the Chateau exploring the vineyards, stomping grapes, or touring the gift shop. The tour group was also too big to hear the guide. It would have been better if we split into two smaller groups and rotated through the castle. The tasting was very good, somewhat small, we were starving afterwards so don't go on an empty stomach. If you only have a little time, I wouldn't spend an entire day doing this trip, I would do something else. We had time to visit the Ufizzi in the morning, and then do the tour, but i think you could find a better tasting experience in Florence with out wasting a whole afternoon.

This was my favorite tour by far. I did not like that there were around 67 of us on the trip, I thought that was WAY to many people, but the castle we went to and the history behind it was amazing. Not to mention the wine was fabulous.

The trip was excellent value for money. On the day we went it was raining heavily, very unusual for the time of year apparently, but we still enjoyed it. The tour itself isn't too long or boring and you get to see the castle and where all the wines are stored etc. The tour guide thought himself a bit of a comedian but his English was excellent and he was very informative. We got to try 3 different wines and got a little snack also but don't go there hungry as there wasn't much to eat!. When we had finshed the tasting we got a little time to visit the gift shop and explore the grounds, which were beautiful. We bought 2 bottles of red and some olive oil and it wasn't too expensive. The guide on the bus as we travelled to Chianti gave us information on the area and on the tour we would get at the castle, and she was very good. Overall we'd reccomment this trip to anyone who wants to see a little of the countryside, which is a nice change to the hustle and bustle of the cities. It is so beautiful and peaceful, and just the right length of time when you want to see so many places whilst in Italy!

We were 3 friends who took this trip and loved every second of it! Castello Del Trebbio was a beautiful castle built in the 1100's and now run by a family who take pride in it's past by giving a wonderful history of the place. We learned a lot and enjoyed a wine tasting and crostini sampling of the local food. It was a rainy day, but we couldn't have enjoyed it more!!

This was recommended by a friend and we are happy to tell more people about the tour. Fascinating facts about the villa, vineyards and extra virgin olive oil. Very interesting information about the current owners and how they acquired the villa. Our tour guide obviously enjoys his job and is a great story teller. He really made the tour. Limited tasting you are not there to drink all day. We had a small group which was a bonus. If the bus was full we probably would not have had time for walking around the grounds afterwards so glad we did. Still don't know why we left a half an hour early, though.

This tour was an excellent experience and way to see the breathtaking countryside of Florence. The Viator CAF staff member holding the sign was a little difficult to find. When you get off the train and you leave the station, go to the right so you are walking toward the large, brown church and they will be on the corner across from the church. Our tour guide was very good and so funny! I wish I could remember her name. She definitely made the trip enjoyable. Once on board the bus, we drove through Florence and the Chianti region. The guide explained some history on the way as it was a good 30 minute drive to the castle, but the scenery on the way was gorgeous. There were vineyards and olive trees everywhere. The castle employee showed us the vineyards and explained the process. Unfortunately, we took this tour the last week of October 2009 so most of the grapes had already been harvested. Next, we went through the wine cellar and then out to the garden where we could take pictures for a few minutes. Then we went to the area to taste the wine, bread and olive oil. The olive oil was very good. You could purchase wine if you liked after the tasting was over. Then we had about five minutes after to take more pictures. After the caste we stopped in a little town where we tasted salami, cheese both great! and purchased a wine card for Euro10 to taste several different wines. Then we left and were dropped off back at our meeting point. The tour guide did not talk on the way back, which was good as many people were tired and napped on the way back.
