Cinque Terre Hiking Day Trip from Florence

Florence, Italy

Join the only tour that takes you to the Cinque Terre on a one-day hiking trip from Florence. Hiking is the only way to truly experience the magic of the Cinque Terre. Take a break from the bustle of the city and hike this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site. It's a unique and memorable experience, exploring the only unspoilt survivor of the genuine Italian Riviera.

Led by your knowledgeable guide you will trek scenic trails and wander through vineyards and olive groves, over stone walls and along a spectacular coastline. This tour includes coach transportation, rail and boat travel between villages, entry in to Cinque Terre National Park and a delicious lunch.

The Cinque Terre takes its name from the five picturesque fishing villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Each town has a distinct character, but all share alleys, arches and steep stone steps, best explored on foot. An idyllic snapshot of old-world Italy, the villages are surrounded by sunny beaches, narrow lanes lined with shops and stalls, brightly colored fishing boats, seaside promenades and sleepy piazzas.

The ancient trails are rough but manageable. Be prepared for the hiking - although the path is open to everyone, remember that the ground can be slippery, uneven, and in places steep and narrow. The charm of the area is that it is natural and unspoilt, so do not expect hand rails or safety rails when steps are steep or when the path is close to the edge.

I took the tour two weeks before the slides. I am glad I did as I always heard about the italian riviera. Walk about tours have polite guides who genuinely care about everyone having a good time. If I had more time I would have taken more of its tours.

Our trip on Oct 27, 2011, was apparently the last outing to Cinque Terre for the season. It followed by a day the terrible flooding and landslides the people experienced. The guides along with the tour supplier did their best to make this an enjoyable day. They even gave the option of cancelling as we were set to depart on the bus. In hindsight, the tour probably should have been cancelled entirely given that our presence in the damage area was likely a hardship for the local people, and so much of the tour had to be altered on the go. We felt somewhat uncomfortable while local people were trying to just cope with their situation. It also seemed like we spent much of the day going back and forth on the train between the 3 local communities we did visit. The time we spent in Porto Venere, which is not in Cinque Terre and therefore was not affected by the storm was certainly enjoyable. However, had we known the conditions entirely (the tour supplier was not well aware of the conditions), we would not have gone. And again, we feel the trip should have been cancelled (as apparently was to be the case for the remainder of the season).

Oh, we are just so sad to hear about the devastation on the Cinque Terre and we keep the people of the two towns in our hearts. Our early October trip with Douglas as our guide was just wonderful. We loved the area, the opportunity for amazing photos and the chance to hike. We thought Douglas handled our entire adventure with all the trains, buses and boat ride (perfect way to end if the weather is good) in such a personal, inviting and enthusiastic way. His love of the region is infectious. We would recommend this tour to all active travelling folks. Just great.

This trip to Cinque Terre was very organized and well planned/thought out. I really enjoyed this hike and am glad I signed up. I didn't know everything I was getting into but the hike was perfect, seeing all the towns and even getting on a boat ride! Lunch was included, as were train fees. All we had to do was follow our experienced guides- very personable and friendly. I would have not been able to do this hike on my own and it was great to have tour guides there helping us along the way, explaining history and giving us information about each town along the way. The hike did not feel rushed and was not too difficult- I expected a more intense hike. For people who were not fit, or older people, there were busses that took them to the other towns. This was a perfect day trip from Florence. I really enjoyed my time and will remember this day for a long time, thanks to the guides and the wonderful experience I had!

Brilliant! Don't miss. Absolutely breathtaking views. Be in decent shape if you want to do the hikes, but you can opt out with a boat or train to the next town. Long day that will stay with you the rest of your life.

The BEST way to see the cinque terre in a day! No stress, no rush, just fun guides leading you through the villages. We had pleny of time to wander on our own and still follow along with the group, the entire day exceeded our expectations, our best day in Italy! Thank you so much to our amazing guides!

This tour was terrific, and Douglas our guide was fabulous. Douglas was very knowledgeable, friendly and spoke English perfectly. During the hiking portion of the trip he checked to make certain that the entire group was progressing without problems. My wife and I really appreciated his concerns. The coach was on time and was very comfortable. The driver kept to the schedule perfectly. Lunch overlooking the Cinque Terre was perfect. We highly recommend this tour and Douglas as the guide.

This was my first tour of my stay in this beautiful country. The sites were so awesome.... almost too beautiful to be true. We had perfect weather._br/_ Our guide, Sandra, was amazing. The walking was extremely hard at times. After climbing over 300 steps, I felt I was unable to make the long trek of 4 miles to the next village. But, I was given an option of meeting the shuttle bus and then the train to the next village. I took that option. I did not want my travel partners or our guide to have to slow down the group if I was unable to make the journey on foot. I met the group in the next village. So, all was well. We were also able to have a boat ride. The views were so beautiful. This tour was definitely a highlight of my trip. I highly recommend it. I was able to see a part of Italy that I would have never known or found on my own.

Great tour. Long day and they are not kidding you have to be in good shape. The 368 steps to the first town is just a warmup. The hour hike after that was a real test but had great scenery and was worth it.

Douglas, Alex (lady) and Marco were fabulous tour guides. The entire day trip was expedited perfectly and is definitely one of our favorite memories from our week long visit to Florence and the Tuscany region. 5 stars for the staff and the tour itself. This was my favorite trip. Our guides, Alex (the girl), Marcus, and Douglass, were from Walkabout, and combined our scheduled events and free time such that we had plenty of time to explore the different towns and trails sufficiently. If only they could have controlled the weather-- the sea was too choppy to ride a boat between towns, but we were compensated by having a glass of wine at a local bar, which gave us time to meet others in our group. This was a really fun day and I'll always remember this trip!

This trip was amazing!! I loved every moment. Also, if you are concerned about your fitness level or physical ability to complete the tour, there is no need to worry, as there are options to skip the parts that require more physical exertion. My travelling companion had a bad knee during the tour, so we decided to skip the hike and catch the train to the next village and meeting place. This was more than fine with me, because we had extra time in the beautiful town Vernazzo, and I was ecstatic to spend my time having a swim._br/_ The lunch was delicious and Cinque Terre itself was magical. _br/_ It was a pleasure to be led our Australian guide Alex, who was very friendly and informative._br/_ Overall, excellent tour and highly recommmended!!

Our guide, Douglas was outstanding, which added to an already wonderful day. Met some very nice people, and it was nice to walk through such a beautiful area and really enjoy the scenery and walk around the towns. The only complaint for the day was the restaurant we stopped for lunch did not have enough bathrooms for the size of the group.

my tongue-in-check remark to my wife was "We needed more time at each place and we would have liked to get back earlier." But, of course, that is not possible. I think the trip did a great job of getting use to experience as much as we could of 5-lands in one day.

As our time in Italy was too short to throughly explore the Cinque Terre region on our own, this day trip seemed like the perfect option - and it certainly turned out to be a top rating experience! Our guide, Douglas (or the more appropriate exotic name of "Marcello!) was extremely knowledgeable about the area and his home country in general; his passion and commitment to his job was obvious to all. There was flexibility to the tour for those who did not want to trek the whole way. Well organised tour without feeling like we were a 'herd of sheep'. Would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see the Cinque Terre area with limited time. Marcello, congratulations!! Ciao bello !

We loved our day trekking through the villages of Cinque Terre! Our guide Sandra was fabulous! She was very accommodating to our group and nothing we asked was a problem. She had great local knowledge and was the perfect guide all day. The food at the restaurant was excellent! As mentioned in the information, a decent level of fitness is required for this trek. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and recommend this trip to anyone who likes a great trek.

Great value for this trip and what they provide you. Our guide Chris was AMAZING. Very energetic and passionate about what he does as well as very helpful and knowledgeable. The hiking trip was one of our favorite days of our trip. The cities were great, the views were breath taking, and the hiking was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the other cities and italy...kind of an escape. Lunch was great. Couldn't have been happier with the company.

This is the way to see Cinque Terre if you are limited by time. The tour guides Alex and Marco were delightful people. The lunch in Corniglia was quaint and the views were spectacular. The hike between Corniglia and Vernazza was enjoyable and again the views were breathtaking. We were fortunate enough to have a wonderfully sunny and wind-free day which meant we enjoyed the boat ride from Monterosso to Riomaggiore. Although I am not one to take group tours, I have to say this one was superb and well worth the money.

Visiting the Cinque Terre was the BEST decision I made while staying in Florence. Absolutely recommend this hike and our fabulous guide Douglas! to anyone interested in getting away from the city for a day. Bare in mind, this is not the easiest hike to complete at the height of summer but it was stunningly beautiful and so worth the effort. I am not the fittest person, but I survived and would go back again in a heartbeat. Cinque Terre is one of my most treasured memories of Italy. Breakfast pastry, banana, water, juice and something else Ive forgotten was included on the bus ride as was a coffee break while en route to the coast. Lunch was held at a restaurant overlooking the sea somewhere near mid-day. In addition to hiking by foot you will travel via train and boat between two of the towns. Oh, and if you arent feeling up to a full day of hiking you can opt for additional train ride to skip the worst of the hike but I highly recommend braving the wild if you can stand the exertion the gorgeous views, sounds and smell of the Italian landscape cannot be found inside a train car. Oh and be sure to bring sunscreen, cash for waterGatorade there are occasional little shops in the mountains, believe it or not, extra T-shirt and a swimsuit. Swimming in the perfectly clear blue Mediterranean was the icing on the cake of this trip. Be adventurous, go for it!

It is the best trip to discover the 5 towns along the Italian Riveria and enjoy the beautiful nature along the coast. The guide spoke perfect English and was very knowledgeable and helpful in every question asked. The pickup was on time as well as the drop off. The cost of the excursion is very attractive as it included breakfast, lunch, train and boat tickets.

This is a great trip and well lead. Don't even think about doing it on your own, leave it to the Pros. You couldn't ask for much more, the nice motor coach, tasty breakfast bag, coffee break en route, delicious lunch and even an unexpected boat ride. The hike is challenge enough, you don't want to have to figuring out all the logistics and try to pull this off on your own. We had a great time and felt it was an excellent value as well.

This tour was great! It is a lot of hiking, but well worth it. I don't know if it is mentioned in the trip, but this trip includes a boat ride from the fifth town, all the way to the first of the town, which means you see them all by foot, but also from the water too. My tour guide was really knowledgeable, informative, and very nice. Also, there is time at the fourth stop the fifth town because you start out of the second town and free beaches to go swimming, so bring some swimtrunks and go for a dip, you'll be glad you did!
