Florence Walking Tour

Florence, Italy

First time visitors to Florence - orient yourselves and be inspired by Renaissance art and architecture on this two-hour guided walking tour through the streets of Florence.

Meet your guide and walk through streets with multi-colored stalls and workshops in the central market zone. Keep an eye out for the Medici Chapels and Basilica di S. Lorenzo, church of the once influential Medici Family (exterior view only).

Stroll through Piazza del Duomo and marvel at the vast Cathedral before stepping inside to admire the interior's intricate Gothic detailing. There's also time to view the dome, the bell tower and St John's Baptistery.

Continue through the medieval quarter to Palazzo del Bargello (exterior visit only) and Piazza della Signoria, where sculptures beckon. Glimpse Palazzo Vecchio and the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery as you roam the open-air like museum. Visit the picturesque Mercato della Paglia (Straw market), home to the famous Piggy Fountain.

Your walking tour concludes after crossing Florence's signature bridge, the Ponte Vecchio, at Pitti Palace.

A great way to start your visit to Florence. The guide was excellent.

The guide William was very lovely but his English really wasn't adequate to be giving a guided tour in English....he was definitely enthusiastic though. The tour was an excellent quick way to introduce you to Florence, I would make sure next time you ensure the guide is fluent...better still we actually tracked down an Aussie living in Florence (Freyas tour of Florence, ie Freya middelton). We also booked her for3 hours, more expensive but definitely worth it for those who have a good knowledge of art, renaissance history and wanting someone to make Florence come alive!

This was one of the best parts of our trip. The guide was very knowledgeable, providing interesting tidbits of information, history and stories as we walked around. I would do it again the next time in Florence!

This didn't work for me. It was done in two languages (Spanish/Engilsh) and was not audible. I dropped out after about 10 minutes as the only English speaker.

Guide was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the sights and sites of Florence. We had the god fortune of having very small group (just 2 of us for most of the time) and so had a very personal tour. Guide did not rush, spoke excellent English and allowed plenty of time for conversation and questions. A map of our route and the features we saw would have been helpful being newcomers to Florence. Would strongly recommend this tour, early in your visit as it is helps to orientate the visitor to the key attractions.

Covered a lot of ground, and gave us a good idea of what we wanted to go back and spend more time on. Tour guide was nice and informative, and kept a good pace. A lot of walking, so wear good shoes!

This is the only way to start a visit to Florence. The guide was very entertaining and knowledgable and because we were only a small group of 4, took us to a few spots which weren't on the standard tour. A very enjoyable morning and a good way to get your bearings of the city.

It was a disappointment. My wife and I were grouped together with the French. The German guide had to speak in English first then in French. Probably because of the time limit of the tour, the guide did not give more details than we would have wanted so we ended up listening to the other tour guides in other groups. No choice. I do not recommend this. Or if you intend to book, make sure all of you speak the same language.

The guide was certainly informative and knowledgeable. Having her translate in 2 languages was somewhat time consuming. The guide was lovely, but perhaps some more enthusiasm would have improved the tour.

The guide spent too much time on historical minutiae and dates that eventually become muddled in the listener's mind. Visitors are interested in the family stories of the Medici and others. I would have liked to have visited Santa Croce, and perhaps just strolling the back streets of Florence. We spent time hiking over to the Pitti Palace, but were not taken in. That time was wasted. Discussing current life in Florence would have been interesting, such as the flooding in 20th century. More time was spent walking that visiting inside historic spaces.

Instructions on the confirmation email were confusing listing 2 piazzas which intersect and stretch over 500 meters. When at one end, you are unable to see the 15cm by 40cm yellow sign attached to only 1 side of a bus lamp post as it is too small to be seen from a distance and it is always hidden by buses picking up and dropping passengers. After 2 telephone calls and 2 sets of bad instructionsdirections, we located the yellow sign but after the tour had left. Our only choice was to lose the money or book a more expensive "bus tour" that same day. We took the bus tour to avoid losing our money. We do not recommend that tour as the tour contained folks speaking more than one language. Because the guides were speaking concurrently in each language, the information about many places of interest was relayed to each of us in our own language after we had passed that spot. Sometimes we got it at the right time and sometimes the other folks did also, but neither translator provided the information at the right time, all the time. No telling what we missed - in either language. A very bad experience.

In two hours the guide took us to the best places in Florence and gave us a bit of info on when and why they were built. Is an excellent way to choose where you'd like to see again later in more depth, and what is fine to see only from the outside. I loved this tour!!

This is the perfect introduction for the first time visitor to Florence, so much better than the bus tours! Our guide was perfect, he was knowledgeable and passionate about Florence, its history and architecture. We saw the key sights and learned quite a bit about them that really informed our later more specific visits to places like Duomo. The guide really cared for the group as well, making use of shade, giving us time to take in the sights and speaking perfect English and Spanish for a mixed language group.

It was fine, but I expected a bit more. Maybe because the walking tour in Berlin was so absolutely fantastic. But it was good.
