This relaxing, interpretive walk to the glacier is the perfect opportunity to learn the role of the Franz Josef Glacier in shaping this remarkable landscape. With the emphasis more on geographical information and the glaciers history, you're able to venture beyond the public barriers and right up to the dramatic terminal face of this advancing glacier with your experienced guide.

After being fitted out with all your equipment at our company office, a ten minute bus ride takes you to within 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) of the glacier, where you enjoy a short bush walk through regenerating rainforest, regrouping in the glacier valley.

You then proceed to the front of the glacier (2.5 kilometers), with your guide calling stops along the way to explain the unique features of the glacier and glacier valley. Please note, trip does not include walking on the ice.

Fully worth it, the guide was very helpful and he had good knowledge of the terrain, it was not as tough as we thought, but you need to be fit to undertake it. Trip to the Glacier is not complete without it. Would have undertaken the full day tour if we had more time.

We actually changed our walk to the helihike and was very pleased we did. This was the highlight of our trip around the south Island. The staff were professional and the guide Cliff was great. We felt confidnt with him. Great job 5 star rating

Even though it was pouring with rain, I rated the walk as very interesting and informitive, Our guide "Brook" was great, and went out of her way to help me, as I was recovering from a fractured ankle, the free DVD was informitive and a nice memory to recieve at the end of wet hike. regards Wayne Berry

The guide was knowledgable, and also very safety conscious. I'm not the fittest, and he took us on a walk that matched my abilities and still gave an amazing look at the glacier. Being able to use their waterproof gear saved us some soggy trousers, and the entire things was wonderful. STRONGLY RECOMMEND.

We enjoyed the walk to the glacier emensley even in the rain. Our guide was a real hottie and i wanted to bring him home for my daughter. The scenery was stunning. Our guide was full of knowledge and answered all our questions.

It was an enjoyable walk. Our guide was informative and fun. Would have preferred to go further to the glacier and do more at waterfalls than to walk to the duck pond at the end of the trip to make up the time.

Weather was not particularly good, but it was worth doing anyway. The guide was very informative and very interesting and I learnt a lot. As I am 63, I was a bit worried that I had taken on too much, but it was really great and I would recommend this walk with no hesitation.
