Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and Whisky Trail Small Group Day Trip from Glasgow

Glasgow, United Kingdom

Travel to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond in style and enjoy a wee dram of whisky on a small-group tour from Glasgow. With a maximum group size of 16 passengers, you are sure to have a memorable and personal experience on this special excursion to Stirling and Loch Lomond.

Stirling Castle was Scotland's most important medieval stronghold and is set high on a volcanic outcrop. There has been fortification on the rock since 1000 BC, as it guards the main route north into the Scottish Highlands. You have the option of visiting the castle to see some of the finest Renaissance architecture in Scotland.

Leaving Stirling, you'll travel past Doune Castle, Callander and into the Trossachs, an area popularized by authors such as Sir Walter Scott and Daniel Defoe. This is also the territory of Rob Roy MacGregor, Scotland's Robin Hood. The tour stops for a leisurely lunch (own expense) outside the village of Aberfoyle.

After lunch, continue to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, Scotland's largest loch where you can enjoy a walk before heading to the picturesque Distillery of Glengoyne. You can choose to take an optional tour of the distillery (additional cost) or enjoy some refreshments at the 'Slainte Mhath Shop'.

The Scottish Highlands and Islands are Europe's last great wilderness! This personalized tour is as close as you can get to touring in your own car, with the added benefit of gaining intimate knowledge of Scotland. Traveling in a small group means you can take lots of stops and reach "out of the way" places, giving you more time off the bus to discover the real Scotland.

Our guide, Michael was very entertaining. We could of spend more time at Stirling Castle instead of at the National Park since there was more to see in Stirling.

A brilliant trip with our guide Juliette. Our guide, Brian ,at Stirling Castle was hilarious. Then to top it off the whisky was very smooth and drinkable, and I don't particularly like whiskey. A lovely day out.

This tour is just a one full day sightseeing tour, but has a lot to offer. Well experienced tour guide/ driver. Very comfortable Motor coach. Right on the schedule. Include three major sightseeing spots in Scotland. This tour is suitable for travelers with tight schedule. We were very satisfied. One of the best tour experience.

Excellent guide, ex journalist,, Alan, was an interesting knowledgable person. He was very professional and courteous and considerate. He very kindly let us enjoy a garden centre instead of the whisky tour that the rest of the group visited._br/_ We have only praise from every aspect.

We really enjoyed our little excursion. Mike was very informative and a lot of fun. We had a smaller group and he was able to attend to all our needs and questions. Despite the rainy day he brightened it up with his cheerful manner. I only wish we would have had a bit more time at Stirling. If you take the tour (1 hr.) you need at least another hour min. to see the rest. All in all it was a good day.

This tour was was fantastic. The group is small so you get to know your guide pretty well. The sites that you see on this tour are great. The castle is pretty, the Loch looks like a postcard, and the Whisky distillery is great fun. This is a great tour for the price.

I loved it. My tour guide was great, very knowledgeable and personable, and even though the weather wasn't that great in the morning, we made the best of it.

A fantastic day out that was varied, interesting, fun and exhilarating. Our driver was a superb guide who seemed to hold the complete history, geology and geography of Scotland in his head. Stirling Castle was a revelation, as was the landscape and the journey through the Trossachs, and the visit to the Glengoyne Distillery. A wonderful, unforgettable day.

Our tour guide was obnoxious. He told convoluted stories that I could not follow, and was ten to fifteen minutes late in the beginning and at every stop. When we reached Loch Lomond, he brought everyone to the edge of the water and immediately started pressuring people to go to a local pub, saying he had made reservations for everyone. I didn't go to Loch Lomond to see a pub, I went to see a loch. My friend and I had to sneak away from the group to get some sightseeing done. The sights themselves were very worthwhile, there is a path into the woods at Loch Lomond that was amazing. The tour guide just sort of soured it a bit for me.
Review: 2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better
