Las Alpujarras Day Trip from Granada

Granada, Spain

Visit the unspoiled natural beauty of Las  Alpujarras. An area of stunning natural beauty with a delightful climate, Las Alpujarras is dominated by the magnificent rugged peaks of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada. Enjoy lunch at Bubion to Capileira perched above the marvelous Ravine of Poqueira.

Pass through Lanjaron, a famous medicinal spa town where you will visit the Water Museum; Orgiva, center of the Alpujarra region and a series of picturesque villages and hamlets such as Caratunas, Pampaneira, Pitres, Portugos with its natural spring and Trevelez, the highest village in Spain. You will then continue through Bubion to Capileira perched above the marvelous Ravine of Poqueira where a typical Alpujarreno lunch will be served.

This regions natural beauty is due to the warm climate and abundant supply of water running off the rivers of the Sierra Nevada - making it one of the most fertile valleys in Spain. The small white hillside villages are filled with houses with flat earthen roofs (terrados) and the terraced farmland reaches over 6,561 feet (2,000 meters).

The region and it's histor were well presented. Tour could be much improved by a better choice of locations as the scenery here is pretty spectacular. It was unfortunate that all the best sights were only able to be glimpsed from the coach. In hindsight, a better option would have been to hire a car and have the freedom to focus on the region's true highlights.

I called to check in and was told it was cancelled. So, I'm waiting for the refund. A better business practice would be for the company to notify me that the trip was cancelled and that my payment has been refunded.

The tour was worth the money. Hotel pick up was efficient and well organised. The guide was very friendly and helpful. The mountains were just amazing and the white villages picturesque. I really recomment it.

Professionally well done. If you do not have a car, this is more or less the only option to see some of the region, and the guide did a good job.

The coach was small but comfortable, the driver and the guide were both very good and attentive, and the lunch was generous. But overall I thought the trip was expensive for what it offered. Visits to villages were OK, but a walk in the Albaycin district of Granada offers no less stunning scenery. Our main disappointment was that the lunch - supposedly the highlight of the trip - was held in a dull room with no view, although there were plenty of restaurants with lovely views in the same village.

The day we took this trip was extremely cloudy, foggy and rainy. I suggest checking out the weather and if you don't expect sun, don't go. We were taken to several beautiful towns, but because it was very cold and wet, we didn't enjoy the scenery or the view.

A very touristy but extremely scenic drive high up into a fascinating area. Lovely guide, huge lunch of local food - overall excellent value. Though the trip was initially cancelled due to lack of numbers, efficient voice mail alerted us to changes, and the pick-up arrangements worked perfectly.

It was a super trip and I would thoroughly recommend others doing it. The food was beautifully presented when we had our lunch. The guide was knowledgeable, the driver of the bus very careful and the bus itself first class. As the scenery was so stunning it would have been great to have been able to stop and take some photos of the wonderful valleys and ravines. On the way to our lunch the toilet and coffee stop proved to be at a place that was closed - phoning ahead to check that it was open would have been a good idea. My group and I would liked to have had more information about how the hams are preserved rather than just having the food samples, nice as they were, and then being left to wander. As teachers information is what we like. The only part of the tour which we didn't rate was the waterfall of iron - that was a bit of a let down.

Informal, well organised, good and easy way to see this beautiful area without having to do the driving.
