Macau Day Trip from Hong Kong

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Complete your visit to Hong Kong with a day trip to Macau, once the oldest European settlement in the Orient. You'll sail across the sea from Hong Kong to Macau on a jetfoil or catamaran, and see all the sights of this fascinating former Portuguese colony and World Heritage listed site.

Macau is 37 miles (60 km) south-west of Hong Kong, a 60-minute trip by catamaran or jetfoil. You'll explore Macau's historic center, the 31st designated UNESCO World Heritage site in China.

Highlights include:

  • Evocative ruins of the historic church of St Paul, a grand imposing facade of an early 16th century church designed by Italians and built by Japanese Christian exiles
  • You'll drive along Guia Circuit where the Macau Grand Prix is held
  • Stop at the statue of Kum Iam, the Goddess of Mercy
  • Macau Tower, the 11th higest tower in the world. Entry to the observation deck is optional (payable direct)
  • A-Ma Temple, a graceful chapel built in 1488
You'll also be able to try your luck at Macau Casino before leaving Macau in the late afternoon.

Was great to see macau but you don't get much time to go into the casino - only if you don't do the 1 hr uphill walk to the casino then the driver will take you there to check it out

Enjoyed the trip, particularly the visit to the tower. Would have liked more free time to look around in the town centre. the lunch was excellent too.

Knowledgeable and helpful guide. Cisco gave us great historical tour, going around must see spots. I would recommend this tour to those who are interested in the world heritage sites, not gambling!

We had booked this tour specifically so that we could go and see the amazing casino's in Macau and were a bit disappointed when we found out that we were not going to get to see much of that side. If you want to visit Macau to see the historic sites then this is a good option, but if like us, you want to see the Casino's catch the ferry over on your own. Taxi's are really cheap as a way to get around.

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Macau and I felt the time was adequate for my needs. The tour guide was well informed and even adventurous, skipping the bus and taking us on a walking tour through part of the old town. This helped us to a better appreciation of the historic dimentions of Macau.

Well worth a visit, along with the usual sights we were taken through the back streets away from the main tourist area which I loved. Do try the custard tarts they were delicious. If you are lucky enough to have Mario as a guide, he will make the day even more enjoyable.

I last visited Macau in 2000. I was impressed by the changes since then but it still managed to maintain the charm of the old while embracing the new. As it happened I got the same tour guide from my previous visit. Still as charming and mischevious as I remember

This was a great trip. I don't have enough to say about it; absolutely great. Karen, in Macau, was excellent looking after everybody. Everything went perfectly. The lunch in Macau was really good. It made a really good tour in the limited time, and it was really super. I would highly recommend this trip to anybody.

If you just want to take a quick look at Macau and have limited time, this tour is an option. Otherwise, it's too quick and you won't have enough time to take good pics.

Great trip. Tour guide was excellent and helpful. Macau is not much more than a big casino stop now but, overall, a great trip. If you get motion sick easy, be prepared for the ferry ride to get there.

This is a messy place. The only interesting sites are the temples and the old-Portuguese downtown which buildings, however, have been rented out to cheap stores, ruining the facades. Tour guide was -Cisco- was, most of the time, too much concentrated on telling how good he was, how experienced he was, how better he was in comparison with other, younger, guides.. At the end he gave us a good service, though. If your time is limited and need to chose between this excursion and another, skip it.

Once again myself and 6 friends had a great time on this tour. The transfers went without a hitch and our tour guide Mario was fantastic. He is very helpful and nothing was to much trouble. Very knowledgeable and very professional as well as very enjoyable company. He showed us the back streets of Macau which was really good to get off the tourist trail. Have been back 36 hours and are already telling friends about the tour

This trip was terriffic! We're very happy we did it and highly recommend it. If you are going to gamble, this is NOT the trip to take as we had about 20 min. in a casino. If you spend too much time in the casino, you miss the historic part of Macau.

The tour was a wonderful step back in time with a fantastic colonial feel to it. The sites were great, the food was awesome and our guide Mario was a debonair well of local knowledge. He was so approachable and more than happy to answer all questions. I would encourage anyone to take this teriffic Day Trip :)

fantastic day out. our tour guide Mario was awesome. We loved the history of Macau and the night life over there. We ended up going back on our own the following day and stayed overnight at The Venetian. Unbelievably beautiful and massive resort. We had the best time every. We cannot wait to get back over there soon.

I really enjoyed this tour. Our tour guide was very keen to make sure we got a good overview of the history and life in Macau - it's fascinating. We saw a great deal of the architecture which is fantastic and learned about the history of Macau. The Macau Tower is fantastic, the temple is beautiful and I loved the 15th century Portuguese/European architecture throughout the town, dispersed with more modern buildings. We didn't do any shopping, nor attend any casino's for a great length of time - this was fine with me. I think other tours are for that. The hydrofoil journey was great and easy, but the only sticking point was the lengthy process to get through immigration when we reached Macau (over an hour). However, apart from that it was great.

Not what we expected. Pick up from our hotel was on time and efficient but it seemed to go downhill from there. We had allocated seating on the trip over to Macau but the hour wait queuing at customs detracted from the start of the day. The tour was a combination of three different travel groups - all with different expectations of the day. We felt most of the day was spent waiting for people to do different activities which we weren't interested in or booked to do. The lunch was a huge disappointment - a buffet with most of the dishes empty when we arrived. Highlight of the day were the Portugese custard tarts. I think you could see more of Macau on your own - without the tour guide looking for gratuities at the end of the day!!!!

The tour guide was very knowledgable and took us to some nice places. I particularly liked the temple, the old part of Macau, the tower, the tarts. I did not like the lunch, the big statue at the beigining of the tour and most of all I did not like being sold to for instance the watches etc. I am glad it was not a casino tour however it would have been nice to drive past the Venetian. I will re-terate though that the tour guide was great. All up I recommend the tour.

The tour unfortunately was a group of 51 people and this initially resulted in long delays from the start. The tour leader Mario, thought he was the best thing in Maccau unfortunately in working the public you cannot just do "as you like".

Cisco was not only a good tour guide but he knows a lot about Macau and has a lot of passion for the country. He made and emphasis that Macau has more to offer than just gambling, and would offer small "free perks" to the tour. I reccomend going to the top of the Macau tower beccause there is an extra perk given at the top.

The tour guide was very informative and friendly. Very well spoken english. Macau is probably a one-day visit kind of place and taking this tour was perfect. Unless you're a gambler, then you're going to need more time here. But if you're just sightseeing then this tour is probably the best option.

This trip was really worth seeing. The tour guide Sisco Kid was excellent, he spoke seven languages & he was very informative. He was also brilliant at keeping everone together & meeting at the arranged times when we had time to do our own things. We were taken to Holiday Inn for a buffet lunch & this was first class, with many choices well cooked.
