Private Tour: Kuala Lumpur Rainforest and Canopy Walkway Tour

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This private sightseeing tour in Kuala Lumpur offers you an opportunity to walk through a Malaysian Rainforest to observe the forest ecosystem. Walk through shady nature trails and arboretums - among them the Dipterocarp arboretum, a collection centre of living trees for botanical reference. At the Bambusetum you will see almost 30 species of local bamboo.

Forest Reserve Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) in Kuala Lumpur offers visitors the opportunity of enjoying a walk through a Malaysian Rainforest to help increase your understanding of the forest ecosystem. This Forest Reserve is gazetted in 1926 and has a worldwide reputation as a centre of excellence in forestry research. Spread over 1,528ha, the FRIM Kepong is the first of its kind to contain both regenerated and secondary forest, which together hold hundreds of plant life species.

This privately guided tour provides the perfect opportunity to explore this unique slice of Malaysia. FRIM offers all walks of life a back-to-nature experience whilst enjoying the flora, fauna, landscapes and the remains of an old Orang Asli settlement. A waterfall and river cutting through this forest reserve adds serenity to this luxuriant landscape.

For the more adventurous traveller, check out the four jungle tracks: Keruing Trail, Rover Track, Engkabang Trail and Salleh Trail, all of which will take you through some of the most spectacular secondary forests in Malaysia. Walk through shady nature trails and arboretums, among them the Dipterocarp arboretum, a collection centre of living trees for botanical reference. The Bambusetum displays almost 30 species of local bamboo. Another highlights is the Canopy Walk above the treetops, if open to visitors at the time of visit. The number of people allowed on the canopy walk per day is limited o 250 people per day. The Canopy Walk is closed for maintenance every Monday and Friday.

Rainforest walk is estimated to take between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

A fantastic tour and guide (Fockhans, hoping I got the spelling right for his name ) Awesome scenery and well worth doing but a lot of hard work_br/_ and sweating before you reach the tree top walk and then you have to come down.........._br/_ Make sure you are reasonably fit and able to climb over rocks etc. Don't wear warm clothes but make sure you have very good walking shoes and you take insect repellant and plenty of water We _br/_ had a great experience doing this and we are both in our 50s so we are proud of ourselves in what we acheived and it showed us what you can do when you put your mind to it and push youselves that little bit more We even chose the harder way down but that's because we felt comfortable with our guide Many thanks to our fantastic young guide for all his help as this is something we can tell our grandchildren when they're older what nan and pop achieved in their 50s (and just a tad overweight too)

My guide Farhan in the Rainforest was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. He had a sincere interest in his work which I was curious about and had all my questions answered. if he didn't know the answer to something he told you so and this honesty was welcomed. I highly recommend this tour as a chance to see lots of different vegetation as well as some monkeys. The Canopy Walkway was fantastic with the views it offered. Just make sure you were some good running shoes or hiking shoes/boats as the grade to it can be a little steep. All in all, a great tour.

Laurie D's review from Nov 2010 summarizes my experience as well. Driver did not do much other than transport, but the FRIM guide was extremely knowledgable and well-trained. Since I went during the rainy season, I wisely brought hiking boots and insect repellent. Like several other reviewers have commented, this hike is pretty strenuous. Before it is all said and done, you will climb and descend over 500 meters vertical through muddy trails and over a multitude of slick, rocky steps. You should be in good physical shape for this hike. I did the Batu Caves tour the same day and my quads were pretty sore the next day!

Another amazing tour. The climb was hard work but well worth it. The guides were very knowledgable and very friendly. The canopy is beautiful and we even managed to spot a few native animals including giant ants and lizards. The leech was a little freaky but still fun!

It was excellent! We were collected from our hotel on time by a courteous and helpful driver. He delivered us into the hands of an expert guide who conducted us around the rainforest walk and across the walkway. The walkway was spectacular. Our guide was very knowledgeable and explained clearly what we were passing by and pointed out special features of plantsand trees. Parts of the walk were quite demanding but our guide was always mindful of our safety and well-being. His help and consideration made this a memorable event. We are very grateful to both our guide and the driver.

Even though we had a very nice guide this tour was not what was expected. The rain forest was not natural which was a disappointment. We had asked our driver to stop so we could buy bug spray and water but he said it would be available at the sight. Upon arrival it was not, so during our hike we were bitten by mosquitoes and leches - not nice. Then when the weather turned bad not the tour's fault we had to hike down by the waterfall - which sounds nice however there was an exposed water pipeline running along side of the falls the whole way down which isn't very natural. If I had the choice again I wouldn't pay the price for the tour.

I loved the tour but the 'guide' was just a driver who simply brought me to the rainforest and dropped me off with a young guy from the park. As a single women, I felt somewhat abandoned especially when the guide wasnt waiting for us at the end of the hike, we waited over an hour! All in all, the forest was beautiful. No matter how hot it is, be sure to wear long sleeves to protect against the bugs and tight long pants to prevent leeches!

Very exciting tour, can be very tiring as you do a lot of walking. Will advice to wear trainers instead of shoes while doing this tour. Will not recommend this tour if you have very young children who would be with you.

The climb to the canopy could be too strenuous for some. However, the reward is a unique stroll through tree tops which for most would be a first.

I enjoyed this tour. A guide takes you and your Viator appointed driver for a walk through the forest and then you do a canopy walk. Only complaint is that either Viator did not pass my details on to the local tour people or the locals lost my details. I had to fax my itinerary to the local tour people which was an extra expense to me. When the tour guide-driver showed up at the hotel, he did not find me until 15 minutes after the set time. This is because he was looking for a couple instead of a single traveller. So after phoning the local tour people and then faxing my itinerary which contained all the relevant details, they still stuffed it up. Get your act together!

This trip was well worth it - having a private tour guide was the best because we could direct the tour and my kids were able to freely ask all of their questions. It was disappointing because the canopy walk was closed for renovations, but we were called the day before and told about this. It was our choice to go ahead with the tour, and it was worth it. Our guide was so knowledgeable and interesting.

Our guide was very good, however, we were unable to do the canopy walk because of a downpour of rain. Very disappointing. Didn't see much wildlife either.
