Death Valley Day Trip from Las Vegas

Las Vegas, United States of America

Escape to the desert on day trip to Death Valley during your Las Vegas vacation. You'll travel through the magnificent Mojave Desert and visit the Spanish-style Scotty's Castle for lunch.  Tour Ubehebe Crater and visit the atmospheric Furnace Creek Ranch Museum and Rhyolite Ghost Town.

Your Death Valley adventure begins with a complimentary continental breakfast in Beatty, Nevada, your first stop in the Mojave Desert. Then it's on to Scotty's Castle, where your castle guide will take you back in time. After your 60-minute guided tour of the castle, you will have 30 minutes of free time to explore the castle grounds and enjoy a complimentary picnic lunch served in the grounds of Scotty's Castle.

After lunch you will continue on to your third stop, Ubehebe Crater. The crater is all that remains from a volcanic eruption that was so violent, the volcano itself was destroyed. Then it's on to Furnace Creek Ranch Museum, where you can learn about the history of Death Valley.

Next stop is Badwater, the lowest spot in the Western Hemisphere, at 282 feet (85 meters) below sea level, with a permanent spring-fed pool where you actually can walk on the salt flats. Your final stop on the tour is at Rhyolite Ghost Town.

What an eye-opening trip! We started off early but had the opportunity to get a coffee and an enjoyable packed breakfast was provided. The ever-changing landscape was not what I was expecting. Our tour guide Franklin aka Ralph, was a mine of information. Although it was a long day trip there were plenty of opportunities to get out of the bus and take photos. I highly recommend this trip.

Excellent trip! Buses are small so can travel anywhere the full size buses can't. Tour guide Ralph was outstanding! Very knowledgeable about Vegas history and statistics! Very flexible and a pleasure to talk to.

The trip was great, the only thing wrong was that the tour bus driver kept wanting to change the iteniery, but the group insisted, that we went where we were meant to go.

Overall good tour and knowledgeable guide. There should be a better way to pick what version of the tour will be taken however (either the scenic version or the version that includes Scotty's Castle): a vote should be taken and majority should rule - not the request of a single person out of the group who subsequently slept throughout the trip.

Our trip was excellent. We had beautiful weather, luckily, but most importantly our tour guide named Ralph did an outstanding job. He delivered an informative and educational narrative throughout the day long trip. He is a tremendous asset to your tour company. We were met on time, the van was comfortable and all aspects of trip were as advertised. We felt it was money well spent.

This is THE best tour I have ever taken anywhere in the world and I've taken alot. Ralph was the best tour guide ever. The people complaining about hearing him talk to much obviously didn't listen to him or didn't want to learn. My only complaint about this tour is that it advertised a certificate of visiting death valley. Viator was unable to produce such even after writing to them when I returned, but the tour itself was excellent. I highly recommend.

We enjoyed the day, the guide was knowledgeable and interesting. However to people with only a passing acquaintance with geology the day could profitably ended at two in the afternoon

Excellent trip, despite the bus breaking down! We had an unscheduled stop in Death Valley Junction where we were treated to a movie at the Amargosa Opera House. We were back on the road 2 hours later. Stunning landscapes, a huge variety of geological and mineral sights and a truly brilliant tour guide, Ralph, who was both knowledgeable and helpful. Gluten free breakfast and lunch provided for me (although it did contain cookies which were not GF, which could have been disastrous if I hadn't checked). All in all great value and a fascinating trip we will not forget for a long time.

This was my favorite tour of the three we did. We were in a minibus so could go on smaller roads that the coaches couldn't. It also meant there was less people crowding round. _br/_ Our guide, Ralph, was amazing and talked enthusiastically for the whole 11 hr day. He seemed to know everything about Death Valley including the wildlife, plants and geology. He also taught us about American History and about the History of Las Vegas. He seemed to love his job and it was interesting listening to him._br/_ Death Valley itself was amazing and each stop was much more diverse that I was expecting. The Scotty's castle tour was also great and very interesting, even if you are European and have visited hundreds of castles like me!_br/_ We went in late November and the temperature was nice. It was quite cool in the morning so you need a jumper but it warmed up later. The food on the trip was also good. Definitely worth doing!

Our tour and tour guide was fantastic. We had a good group so whenever we asked to stop for photo ops, our guide Ralph was more than happy to do so.And Ralph is a walking encyclopedia...with information from beginning to end of the tour. I highly recommend this excellent trip and guide Ralph and would do it again.

I'm from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro and i hope that all brazillians that are visiting Vegas to take a chance about doing this tour with Ralph.... I spent 17 days at USA West Cost but the tour to Death Valley was the best thing i did not only in my trip but in all others i've done before. Ralph is a wonderful guy and he always has all the questions and answers than you can imagine. Thank god everyone agreed about doing the Scenic Tour. I have no more words to say that this day will be forever in my mind. I took 550 pictures.... Bad Lands, Bad Water, Dante's View, Zabriesk Point, Devil's Golf Course, Furnance Creek .... I only don't know why it isn't the main tour (probably is much better than going to a Castle)... Don't need to worry about water, food or delays... Thank you so much for the best pictures and the best moments in life =)

This was a wonderful trip. It is a long day but its cetainly worth it. Our guide was excellant. He was a wealth of information and incite. I just wish I could remember all what he told us. The trip to Scotty's Castle, which I wasn't sure I would like was actually great. The park service rangers gave an awesome tour. We stopped at several places in Death Valley--all very beautiful and they even gave us a chance to buy some souvenirs.

for a great change of scenery,, take this trip,, there is nothing like death valley. Great weather, great guide Ralph. We saw big horn sheep, taranchula, and wild mustangs on the _br/_ trip. Only had 5 of us on the mini bus and that was really nice too. Walked the sand dunes, the salt flats, mustard canyon, ghost town and haunted theater. Didn't take the extra time for scotty's castle,, since that is out of the way abit and would have eliminated other things. Just a neat place to see and experience.

This was a fabulous day trip! Our guide was prompt and courteous. He provided us with so much information about both Death Valley and Las Vegas. He made many stops and allowed us all the time we wanted in each spot. Death Valley was an AMAZING place to visit! I, and my 11 year old, expected the beach without water--we were soooo wrong! Anyone with a day to spare while in Las Vegas should book this tour. It was worth my time and money!! I would do it again in a minute.

This was an amazing trip. A long day, and very tiring but well worth it. The scenery is spectacular; truly one of the most fascinating spots on the planet. Our guide Ralph was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and one of the very best guides I have EVER had on any tour. This guy is a gem. He is intelligent, well-read, thoughtful and really knows and loves Death Valley. He gave us the option of skipping Scotty's Castle for the "scenic tour," which thankfully everyone agreed to. It was amazing. Ralph took us to every nook and cranny of Death Valley...and we even got to go up to Dante's Peak, which we would not have been able to do if you go to the Castle. He also had some other surprises for us, which I won't spoil here. The food was quite good. Plenty of water. The van was very comfortable, but we were full, for sure. I highly recommend this tour. It gives you an appreciation for Death Valley that you would not otherwise have, from the history to the geology. And you cannot beat Ralph....the tour company is lucky to have him. This is really his calling. Bravo! A++.

Even though May isnt the best time to visit the Death Valley, we had fun because our guide was very knowledgeable about the entire geographical and historical perspectives of the Death Valley, Las Vegas and the Californian region. We had a great time. Please be sure to take lots of water and lots of sunscreen and lots of pictures, coz these are a once in a lifetime views.

300 words cannot describe how awesome this adventure was! It is honestly one of the best tours I have taken. I toured DV on April 7 which had extremely high winds and was cloudy and cold! Not your normal day - sandstorms, dust devils, it was awesome! Ralph, our guide, handled the trip masterfully given the conditions. A bit on Ralph - there are "tour guides" and there are true *Guides* - Ralph is the latter. Ralph was the real deal when it came to local knowledge - he has the gift to be able to speak for 13 hours basically nonstop but it is not a script - ask him a question and he will give you a real answer. Ralph encouraged us to do the "natural" tour and not the Scotty's Castle part - so we got to go see Dante's View - as other tourists here have stated - you really, really need to do that - it is amazing! Of course it was like 20 degrees and had 70 knot winds up there that day. Great idea to stop at the haunted "Amargosa Hotel and Opera House" - unexpected and very welcome. We got sandblasted a few times trying to see the dunes, but Ralph was able to get us to all of the major spots - the salt flat is truly a site to behold, but be forewarned it is a LONG walk to get there - also - you will get the opportunity to climb a lot of peaks or not, if you do remember - Zabriskie point is a tall climb and the salt flat is a long walk so be prepared. Ralph made the trip back to Vegas enjoyable too - he really can cover a vast amount if info - never bored in 12 hours. Excellent!

My wife and I consider this one of the best trips we have ever done. Why? Attention to detail, organisation and knowledge. Our driver/guide tailored the day exactly to the needs of everyone on the trip. Boxed breakfast and lunch were provided and were of a good standard. Cold bottled water was available all day as well. The journey was memorable throughout the day and numerous stops were provided all day to explore and discover. This stopping is very different from a tour on coaches - you're not stopping at McDonalds! To describe what we saw would be futile so I will not try - do the tour yourself. Could be the best money you ever spend!

We were picked up on time and had a great guide, Mark. We couldn't do all the things mentioned in the itinerary because some of the roads were in bad shape because of previous rain storms. That was not your fault. The breakfast and lunch was very good.

WOW!!! Worth every penny!!! A really relaxed day - you didnt feel at any point that you were being rushed from one areas to the next. The guide was incredibly friendly and approachable. He know so much about Las Vegas and Death Valley. I would highly recommend doing this trip as he seems to know all extra little gems of interest e.g a hidden pool of salt water hidden amongst the crystalised salt of the devil's golf course. A must do for anyone wanting to see the amazing areas surrounding Las Vegas.

This tour was fun and was very educational. Including us, there were only 7 people so our guide catered to where we wanted to go. We skipped Scotty's Castle and spent more time at the beautiful and mysterious Death Valley. Our guide was very knowledgable, friendly, and took care of us. We made at least 10 stops along the way for picture taking opportunities. My favorite place was the Devil's Golf Course. I would definitely recommend this tour to everyone! I'm very, very satisfied. Trust me - the smaller the group, the more enjoyable the tour.

Loved this tour! Very knowlegeable driver. Small group in a large van 10 people which was much appreciated. Gave us a great boxed breakfast as well as a good box lunch. Although "Scotty's Castle" is billed as part of the tour, the driver gave us the option to forgo that 3 hour part of the trip and instead go to Dante's View and have more stops in Death Valley to see the shifting sand dunes etc. Note - if any one person wanted to go to Scotty's castle, then the van must go there. Our van group all preferred seeing Dante's View - a fanatastic overlook of Death Valley, and loved having the time for additional stops at various points in Death Valley. Our driver Gary ensured we returned to Las Vegas on time. This was a wonderful tour!
