Sintra, Cascais and Estoril Coast Half-Day Trip from Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal

Discover the natural beauty of Portugal on a relaxing afternoon tour from Lisbon. Travel to Estoril, Cascais Bay and Hell's Mouth (Boca do Inferno), and take in views of the Atlantic Ocean on the drive along the Portuguese coast. Continue to the town of Sintra to visit the enchanting UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pena Palace (Palácio Nacional da Pena), and admire the Portuguese countryside from your comfortable coach on the drive back to Lisbon.

Meet your local guide in central Lisbon or enjoy pickup from your hotel, and take in views of the Tagus River from your comfortable coach as you head to the coast of Portugal.

When you arrive in Estoril, enjoy a short walking tour around this coastal town with your guide. Continue your journey along the Estoril Coast to Cascais Bay and admire the beautiful beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Arrive next at Hell's Mouth cliff (Boca do Inferno), a dramatic cliff where the sea water breaks vigorously, and then stop briefly at the nearby Guincho Beach.

Cabo da Roca, Europe's westernmost point on the Portuguese coast, is your next stop (April to October only, weather permitting). See the cape's lighthouse overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean.

Then head inland, and learn interesting facts about Portugal on the drive through Sintra-Cascais Natural Park to Pena Palace (Palácio Nacional da Pena) in the town of Sintra. With your guide, tour the fairytale-like castle and its gardens, and learn interesting facts about Portuguese royalty. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed palace is located almost 500 yards (500 meters) above sea level and boasts wonderful views.

On the way back to Lisbon, admire views of the lush Portuguese landscape from your coach.

The tour was fine, however the guide spoke in three languages and sometimes he forgot to include the third language. The bus was full and when walking, some of us could not hear the guide. The tour advertised that we would sample local pastries but we were not given the opportunity. I don't know if I will use again, after these two experiences.

By far, the best tour I did during my trip to Europe. I will strongly recommend it. Cabo da Roca is breathtaking!

The Estoril coast and Sintra Trip was not as planned. The visit to Palacio da Pena was not done because it was closed, but NO visit to Queluz palace was done instead as promised. The guide gave 2 hours free walking in Sintra and NO stop in Estoril was done. In general, the tour was incomplete.

It was very good, however, the Estoril Coast was hurried and we did not really get a good look at it. Also, we had to pay for entry up to and in to the Pena Palace, which I thought my trip covered.

Altogether, my wife and I enjoyed the trip very much -- the places visited were wonderful, and the guided tour of the Pena palace quite informative. We can report one problem however: Since the different tours leave from the same location at the same time in Lisbon, there was confusion about which bus we should be placed on. It was not until guide began an introduction that we realized we had been put on the wrong bus and made a last minute switch. Also, we have a suggestion for an improvement in the tour -- this particular one: "Estoril Coast and Sintra Day trip from Lisbon", does not actually stop in Sintra at all, rather goes to the Pena Palace near town. Considering that Sintra is such a picturesque place perhaps 10 min. could be alloted to allow the tourists to see it on foot, if briefly.

Lisbon is a wonderful place full of the most amazing people. This tour was not. First, we were told we would be picked up by a bus. When an unmarked bus arrived at our hotel we didn't get on it. Only later did we find out that the off white bus with no markings was for us. After getting to the meeting point we boarded our bus to Sintra. Although we signed up for a tour in English the tour was given in four languages. It sounded like the tour guide, who had no animation, was reading from a script. Her English was poor and her stories uninspiring (she actually put half the bus to sleep). When we arrived in Sintra we were dropped off in the center of town. This tour DOES NOT take you to the palace pictured. It only takes you to the town of Sintra. The Pena Palace is about a mile up the road. Luckily, we were able to get a ride up there and view the palace. The palace is great and a must see but it will cost you another 12 Euros or so plus a 4 E trolley ride. Overall, we were very disappointed in this tour and with our guide. Even the bus driver was a disappointment. He drove crazy and didn't yield to traffic signs. It seems like a better bet would be to take a train to Sintra and explore the town and palaces on your own. This tour was AWFUL.

Don't miss going to Sintra - absolutely gorgeous area and the castle is quirky and nothing like the usual castles. It is set in beautiful, extensive grounds. The Estoril coast was good too - suggest you take the lunch option - was quite good and quickly served.

Was confusing when we got on the coach and was told our voucher was an old one so we either had option of free time in sintra and a free pastry, OR to go the the castle. Late return to hotel at 2000 when its a half day trip meant very tiring

We had a lovely time with the Viator tours. The staff were very friendly and caring. Pick up and drop off were excellent. I do recommend Viator Tours.

The Pena castle was very nice as was the bus ride. It would be incorrect to say that you actually see the Estoril beach. You just ride past it and do not get to stop on any of the beaches, which are very nice. But the veiw from Cabo da Roca makes everything worthwhile. Better communication on pick-up timings would helpful since it is impossible to get through to the numbers provided and the agency was closed on Sundays.

Definitely got to see everything, but it is a bit rushed to get it all done. Was worth seeing, but if you can go for the whole day instead would recommend that.

It was a wonderful trip but it would have been nice if the bus had stopped at the westernmot part of Europe even if just for 10 minutes. It was a beautiful spot for photos but from a moving bus, it could have been better.

Very much enjoyed Sintra - palace was beautiful. However, doing the return coast trip at 5.30 in the winter wasn't very interesting since it was dark by then!

Portugal is so beautiful! Our guide was professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. One suggestion I have is to allow 5 minute stops at the Cabo de Roca and Guincho for photos.

You can see a lot of places in a small margin of time, but you spend too much time in the bus instead of visiting places. But it is still worth the money. One negative point was that the person who had to pick us up at the hotel, said hello to us in the hotel lounge, but then went outside and forgot us. If we had not come outside ourselves, we would have missed our trip because the bus almost drove away without us.
