Lisbon City Sightseeing Tour

Lisbon, Portugal

Discover the beauty of Lisbon on a half-day trip that covers all of the city's highlights. Enjoy a walking tour of the Moorish Alfama quarter and learn interesting facts about the city from your guide as you wander through the neighborhood's cobblestone streets and alleyways. Sample Port wine at a local shop; then, head to the Belém district to see the Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Jerónimos Monastery and discover the world's most opulent historical carriages at the Coach Museum.

Meet your guide in central Lisbon or enjoy pickup from your Lisbon hotel and relax on a comfortable, air-conditioned coach as you head to the Alfama district. With your guide, wander around the streets of this neighborhood, the oldest in Lisbon and the birthplace of Fado, Portugal's own musical genre. Stop at a local store to sample Portugal's famous Port wine.

Get back on the coach and continue along the waterfront towards Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio) in the heart of Lisbon. Take in views of the Tagus River and Sé de Lisboa cathedral , one of Lisbon's oldest churches.

When you arrive in Belém, see the Belém Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries, both of which commemorate Vasco da Gama's expedition to the Americas. Visit the 16th-century UNESCO World Heritage-listed Jerónimos Monastery, one of the greatest examples of Manueline art, located by the riverfront.

Next, browse through the amazing 17th-century luxury coaches built for the aristocracy at the Coach Museum. On Mondays, when the Jerónimos Monastery and Coach Museum are closed, you will instead visit the neoclassical Palácio Nacional da Ajuda (Ajuda Palace ) or the Casa-Museu Medeiros e Almeida, which showcases an exhaustive collection of artwork by the Portuguese artist António de Medeiros e Almeida.

Relax on the drive back to central Lisbon and admire the 25th of April Bridge -- Europe's longest suspension bridge -- over the River Tagus.

Something I liked very much was the walking visit to ALFAMA suburb, the most pictouresque in Lisbon. I am convinced it should longer as ALFAMA suburb has been covered by Literature Nobel prize winner Jose Saramago and is something very typical of Lisbon. The wine tasting should be longer as well.

This was a great tour. Really gave us a taste of Lisbon and our guide Ana was wonderful. Just wish we had more time at all the stops. Especially in Belem. The pastry shop by the Coach museum was the best! We only had 3 days in Lisbon and this was a must. Great tour and really good guide.

The tour defnitely covered all of the most important sites in Lisbon. The guide was very lovely and informative. The only challenge with tours of this nature is that when the guide is translating in 4 different languages, the commentaryisnt always synced with what you just saw.

The guide tried to speak too many languages. She sometimes only got to speaking English only long after we had passed by some of the sights already. At the time of booking, I was led to believe that the tour would be in English ONLY. English is a UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE - everyone understands English. She should have left off the Portuguese, Spanish, and especially the German -( which she spoke very badly in any case.)

Saw some of the main landmarks in Lisbon in half a day. For a more thorough look at the city, you need to go a full day tour. The coach was comfortable. The guide spoke a variety of languages. On the whole a worthwhile tour. They even pick you up from your hotel providing you contact them and arrange this.

I was disappointed by his tour. The coach pick up person didn't come into the hotel lobby, so didn't pick us up on the booked day. We then went the next day, the last day on our short trip. The trip was 30 mins shorter then advertised. Upstairs on the bus it was near impossible to hear the guide. There was no loud speaker. There was sockets for earphones, but we weren't given any. The one on my seat was broken and several other seats had old sets still in them. We spent a lot of time in a coach museum and little time by Belem Tower, which seemed odd. More historical content would have been good. The tour guide was pleasant and skilled - in 3 languages. But doing a tour to three language groups - English, french and Portuguese - meant only a third of the time was spent giving detail. So it felt rushed and frankly, I felt we had all been crammed together to make money for the company. There was no time for questions. I thought the whole tour would be in English, allowing for interaction and discussion. We did visit the Alfama but we missed all the most interesting content and instead were taken to a souvenir shop, supposedly for a free glass of port. But it was clear that the shop was giving out free glasses of port to everyone - that was on an advert outside. I think it's really quite lame of a sightseeing tour to take people to souvenir shops. We're all capable of shopping on our own. I would not recommend this tour, I'm afraid.

Booking was easy via the internet phoned day before to confirm pick up time and it was very accurate. Vanessa was to be our guide who spoke very good English and always ensured we understood what she said before moving onto another language. The only disappointing part was the long wait for the tram, it was 40 minutes which meant we only had 30 minutes free time in the castle. Vanessa was constantly on the phone trying to sort out a driver, despite numerous drivers in the cabin we had to wait and although Vanessa was constantly apologising it was not her fault, but I suggest Viator try to ensure there are no delays for future guests.

First let me address the end of the tour. I was a little disappointed that I had to find my own way back to my hotel. Especially since I was picked up from my hotel to start my tour. The tour overall was good but some of the areas we walked through were not the best areas of Lisbon. The price is a bit high for what was offered on the trip. Fortunately, the tour guide was great and that made up for what the trip fell short it.

Before booking, I emailed Viator to ask specifically if certain attractions would be open. I received an email saying YES, but when we arrived for the tour, we were told that they were CLOSED. I blame Viator for that problem._br/_ As for the tour itself, our guide was not great. She spoke much more to the Portuguese people on the tour (some of whom may have been her friends or relatives) than to us, though we booked an English tour. Also, when were arrived at one site, she said it was CLOSED and sent us off to a bakery instead. Fortunately, my husband and I stubbornly went to the site, a church, and found that it was OPEN. When we told our guide, she went in with us and did her commentary, which was actually quite good. But shouldn't SHE have known that the church was open, or at least checked before telling us it was closed?_br/_ Although I'd had a previous good experience with Viator, I'd think twice about booking through you again.

My wife and I have taken tours throughout the world and this tour was probably the least enjoyable tour we have ever taken. The tour as outlined on this website does not resemble the tour which we were given. To begin with no return transfer was given to us as was stated on the website. There are a lot more issues which I have taken up with the company.

The bus ride was okay. Nothing great. It could have been done on one's own. The tram ride and the city walking tour were very nice and could have been longer. It was not mentioned that we would have to arrange to come back on our own from the downtown area. We would have been better prepared with maps if this was mentioned before. It was very difficult to get through to the tour comapny on the phone numbers provided. After several attempts I managed to reach the emergency line.

Between guides lack of dialog and not able to understand the English she was speaking on the bus, I cannot tell you a name for one monument that we saw or the history behind it. Four of us were on that tour and we left it at the castle. I'm posting my photos on facebook and trying to refer to my Lisbon guidebook for names of monuments etc.

The bus trip was not good since they used the hop-on-hop-off bus. The commentary was not audible. A separate coach should have been used.

The Lisbon half-day city tour included all the must-see sites and the itinerary gave enough time at each location. The coach museum could have been left out since no one was very interested in that location. The tour guide was nice and very knowledgeable, however, having the commentary in 5 languages made it hard to follow. Viator did NOT tell me to confirm with the local operator 24 hrs in advance so I missed my original time. The emergency number was incorrect and because it was a Saturday, no one was in the office to answer my call. Finally I was able to get through to someone and he rebooked me for the afternoon tour. He said this is often a problem. So, I recommend you tell your clients to call the local operator. I recently booked another tour through Viator for Istanbul and the voucher told me to confirm with the local operator. This was not the case for Lisbon and is very important.

OK, overall. Pickup at Cruise Terminal and drop-off at airport, on schedule good. Limited/no narration inside monuments perhaps due to restrictions on small size of tour group - 3 people. Some time was wasted by male tour guide on interaction with one female passenger - could have been more professional in conducting tour.
