Óbidos, Nazaré, Fátima and Batalha Day Trip

Lisbon, Portugal

Take a fascinating day trip from Lisbon to the Portuguese towns of Óbidos, Nazaré, Fátima and Batalha. During the day, explore the charming medieval village of Óbidos and learn interesting facts from your local guide. Enjoy lunch (included) in the picturesque fishing village of Nazaré. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Batalha Monastery and the Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça. And enjoy free time in Fátima to visit to the Sanctuary of Fátima, one of the most important Christian sites in the world. On the way back to Lisbon, take in views of Portugal's lovely agricultural countryside.

Head north from Lisbon on your full-day trip back to a bygone era, where small villages boast a relaxing pace and historic religious sites dot the landscape. Your first stop is Óbidos, a fortified village of whitewashed houses and narrow streets with a distinctly medieval atmosphere. With your guide, wander around the cobblestone streets and alleyways lined with colorful houses and Gothic doorways. Learn interesting facts about the village from your guide, and then enjoy free time to relax at a café or sample the traditional Ginja liqueur at one of the numerous wine shops.

Next, head to Alcobaça to visit the famous Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the biggest Gothic-style church in Portugal. Continue to Nazaré, a colorful and traditional fishing villages. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (included), and then explore the streets of this popular Portuguese summer retreat.

Hop back on your coach for the drive through the beautiful Portuguese agricultural countryside, and stop at Sítio for wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the pretty beaches. You'll soon arrive in Batalha, a cute town home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Batalha Monastery, which you'll visit with your guide. See the intricate architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows of this Gothic masterpiece.

Continue to Fátima, once a sleepy rural village that became an important pilgrimage site in 1917 when three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady of Fátima (Nossa Senhora de Fátima). Enjoy free time to visit the Sanctuary of Fátima, a basilica that honors the apparition and attracts millions of Catholic pilgrims every year who go to pay their respects to the shrine.

As you leave Fátima for the drive back to Lisbon, stop in nearby Ajulstrel to see the houses of the three shepherd children to whom the vision of Our Lady of Fátima appeared.

A well organized day with appropriate time for each stop. Guide was courteous, but it was annoying to listen to 3 languages for directions. Would also have liked a bit more information about the country we were travelling through like economics and life style than. Lunch was minimal.

I really enjoyed this tour. The guide (Louisa) was informative, friendly and very helpful. The lunch in Nazare was excellent and professionally served. An excellent tour I would recommend to anyone.

Great day! First time in Portugal and got to see so much. Lovely countryside, beautiful Fatima, seaside town and quaint little village celebrating a chocolate festival.

Our guide was excellent. She had to do the tour in 4 different languages but we did not mind since she was glad to stop when we had questions. Our restaurant in Nazare was great. Our bus had the place all to our tour bus and the food was excellent.

My tour to Fatima and the others cities was fantastic! And the tour guide Anna knew her fact and made them very interesting. Lunch was absolutely divine. And so was the service.

I'm usually not real big on tours, but this trip was fantastic. Just enough time in each site to wonder about on our own, we had a great lunch on the beach and the tour guide was outstanding who filled the bus rides between sites with interesting facts and stories. Well worth it.

It was good as an overall. However, they should allow more time at Fatima. We only got an hour there and there was not time to explore the area. I did not like going to a particular giftshop selected by the tour company. There are a lot of giftshop at Fatima with more selections.

Really worthwhile day trip. Guide was very proficient and coach comfortable. Quality lunch was proficiently served. Only issue with three languages on a tour is that some passengers talked during the commentary in the other languages. J and M

Obidos is definitively one of the most appealing pictouresque Portuguese towns and the Nazare beach and lunch in the coast restaurant make it very interesting. I appreciated the good choice of Portuguese wine in the lunch made by the restaurant .

I missed the tour pick up on the day I had booked it because I was given wrong instructions by the person on the phone at the tour company. I was not able to get through on the phone to them in the morning when I needed too. The tour guide doing the hotel pick ups was very rude. This company has no customer service and make you feel like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to go on the trip.

The tour was very well organized and the guide was very informative. The lunch in Nazare was 5 stars, much better than most tour lunches. My husband and I would have preferred more time in Obidos and Nazare, and less time at the Fatima shopping outlet. The guide presented all day in three languages; we think two should be the max per group as it was hard to sit through the same thing three times. At the end of the tour, the bus dropped us off near our hotel rather than at our hotel which was disappointing as I had indicated our hotel location on a map earlier in the day. Overall: we loved it, and would recommend it!

We really enjoyed this trip and it was worth it. Especially the lovely lunch option. Even our teenagers loved it. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because of the guide and the tour of the church in Batalha did not include the area where Henry the Navigator is buried. You had to pay extra for that and we were lead to believe it was included. Our tour guide did not actually accompany us thorough the sights. She woulld would try to tell us everything about the sight before sending us off on our own. Okay if that didn't cut in to our time. By the end, we just waited to find out our meeting time and place and then would leave so we could see as much as possible before heading back. We did a lot of tours with this company and all the guides were great, except her. Wish we remembered her name. But don't let that stop you. This is worth doing especially if you are not in the area for a long time.

The day trip was great. A little too much for just one day, but worthwhile. The tour guide was excellent. She knew all about the Portuguese History, giving us all the historical facts and all some juicy details about the real facts. It was great!

This tour was a nice day spent out of Lisbon, with Obidos a special treat. This little town was fun to walk around in and experience the "past meets present" feel. Nazare was a very pretty sea-side town wtih a beautiful view of oceans and cliffs, and bustling with locals enjoying the beach._br/_ This tour is listed as 9 hours, but including hotel pick up time and the extra time that was not planned, we were gone for a total of 11 hours, so plan accordingly.

This was beautiful just a shame when you ask for an English speaking guide you get one that speaks 3 different languages. The problem with that was that she spoke English last and every would be talking after hearing it in their language that you could not hear what she was saying. Otherwise really good if you are on a short trip.

Great tour but would have been better to visit more closely some of the monuments, churches or palaces. We had sometimes 20 minutes when probably 1 hour wouldn't have been enough. Again, Viator is giving the choice to have the tour in French or in English. I chose French but on place, they told me it had never been advertised neither available in french. I can deal with english but imagine the surprise if you can't?

Having been told that I had to phone to confirm that I needed picking up from my hotel I tried, in vain, for 48 hours with no answer to either of the telephone numbers provided. It was only because we had a very helpful Concierge at our hotel that we were able to discover that we were to be picked up from another hotel. As no details of what to do if you were not going to be picked up were provided I can only assume that we would have lost our money. On the tour itself we arrived so late that the service was just ending. This was particularly disappointing for my wife and her sister who had desperately wanted to attend Mass. Part of the reason that we were so late was there was an unscheduled stop at a factory to buy religious artefacts which we were assured would be blessed by the priest at the service in Fatima. I cannot help thinking that this unscheduled stop was more of a financial arrangement between the tour operators and factory rather than for the benefit of the people on the tour. There were some good point to the tour but these were totally outweighed by the lack of time in Fatima.

The places are fantastic, but I was not totally satisfied. We did not have almost any time in Obidos and Batalha, but we were given more than one and a half hours in Fatima. It was not meant to be a pilgrimage after all._br/_ The bus, our guide, the lunch - everything else was OK, only the proportions of the program were not._br/_

I've been on 4 or 5 tours with Viator and I absolutely love the tours. As always, I do wish we could have stayed longer in the cities, but because of the short time, we are only given one hour for each city. Nonetheless, it was an amazing tour. Though the tour was amazing, I have had trouble (not only in this tour, but also my other viator tours) with the transportation aspect. I have to confirm 24 hours before the tour where the tour will pick us up at the hotel of if I have to meet somewhere else. I think Viator needs to re-evaluate this prcoess since it is EXTREMELY inconvenient, expecially for someone who is on holiday, and the last thing I want to concern myself is confirming a pick-up service, and in this case, the tour service was closed on sunday and my tour was on monday. I did call the emergency contact number through viator, and they eventually connected me through the tour group, but it was a complete hassel and completely unnecssary.

The tour was good, everyone on the bus was most interested in Fatima and we didn't get there until 4:30pm and only had over an hour. That was the purpose of the trip..too much time spent at the other locations, and didn't get back to city til almost 8pm.

Obidos is an awesome village wish we could have spent more time there Nazare is breath-takingly beautiful wish we could have spent more time there Batalha was historic & in an interesting locale wish we could have spent more time there Fatima is commercialized and OVER-RATED! Overall, spending 80 euros person on this tour was overpriced, especially by Portuguese standards. Unfortunately all the companies work together so they got you by the shortcurlies...
