Private Wine and Cellar Tour to Evora

Lisbon, Portugal

This full-day private tour gives you the opportunity to visit one of the most interesting regions of Portugal: Alentejo.

Leaving Lisbon behind you will soon start to cross the rolling plains of the Alentejo finding here and there an olive or cork oak tree that so much contribute to the economy and lifestyle of this region.

The town of Évora, the walled World Heritage Site is an astonishingly well preserved piece of history that you will be able to discover by walking inside its walls. With your guide you will visit the Saint Francis church and the sinister Chapel of the Bones proving that life for some might have been just one more step towards the desired eternity.

Walking up the old narrow streets you'll reach the central Giraldo square where you will begin to walk up to the top of Évora reaching the 13th century Cathedral and the surprisingly well-preserved Roman temple. But in one of the hidden corners of Évora lies the core of all its knowledge and perseverance: the 16th century University where still today hundreds of students search for the much wanted sapience.

After a reinvigorating lunch break in one of the much celebrated restaurants in Évora, that prepare with heart and soul the regional olive oil, bread and garlic recipes, it will be time to continue to Monte Ravasqueira and to the Cartuxa Wine Cellar.

There is no better example of a wine making Estate than those. The hot temperatures force the grapes to mature according to the pace of nature in a great combination of the fruit of the grapes and the oaky flavors of the wooden casks. Somehow the Esporao winemakers have managed to combine these two characteristics in such a way that they belong to the best Wine Estates of Portugal.

We had a fabulous tour of Evora and the Cartuxa Winery. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining; we were treated to a day of historical, visual and wine-related treats. My wife and I highly recommend this tour.

This tour was amazing. We had a chance to see the Lisbon country side, learn about the wine making process, taste some excellent wines and thanks to our amazing tour guide we got to learn a lot about Portuguese history and culture. Nuno, our guide, was not only professional and EXTREMELY knowledgeable, he was a ton of fun to spend the day with. Our entire group is still talking about how great he made our day!

I can't imagine any other way that we would have been able to see this out of the way, but interesting, part of Portugal than by taking the Viator tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and patient with our goofiness. The day was stretched out because we couldn't get a wine tasting appointment until 5:00p.m., but our guide had excellent ideas for how to pace things and we enjoyed a leisurely and educational day.
