Beatles and Liverpool Rail Day Trip from London

London, United Kingdom

Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields - visit these famous Liverpool sights your own way on an independent day trip from London. Everything's arranged for you: return rail tickets, entry to the Beatles Story, a Magical Mystery Tour and a Liverpool city map and information booklet. The rest is up to you!

Your day starts with a relaxing train journey to the historic city of Liverpool, European Capital of Culture in 2008. Arriving at Liverpool Lime Street, you'll have time to explore this Victorian city, perhaps taking a stroll along the stunningly refurbished Albert Dock Complex housing the Merseyside Maritime Museum and Tate Liverpool art gallery.

Your tour includes entry to the Beatles Story, where you can re-live the Fab Four's meteoric rise to fame. Your visit takes you from the cobbles of Matthew Street and the Cavern, through the hysteria of Beatlemania to the final live performance on the Apple rooftop and beyond!

The Cavern Quarter is a vibrant city center area and the focus of Beatle history. There's the famous Cavern Club, where the lads played 292 times, and the pubs where they drank during the early 1960s.

Options for lunch in Liverpool are many and varied, with top-quality bars, restaurants and cafes in the city center.

In the afternoon your Magical Mystery Tour is waiting to take you away! This two-hour tour takes you round all the landmarks in the lives of the Fab Four, including their homes, schools and birthplaces, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and many other significant spots.

Tour went well - very overpriced however. The agent we met at Eustonprovided lots of detail and all required documents (printed out off a computer) and was very helpful. The two hour Magical Mystery Tour in Liverpool is OK, not great, OK. The Beatles museum is very good. You can book that tour for considerably less doing it yourself. Total admissions were about 40 GPB plus the train ride per person.

The train, Beatles Story, and Magical Mystery Tour were all great, but I wouldn't purchase a "tour" from this company again. The "tour guide" didn't arrive until 6:45am (only a few minutes before the train was supposed to depart) after several calls to the company. The guide just drops off tickets to everything, and then you're on your own. Just buy everything on your own.

This was an awesome day trip! A must for any Beatles fan - from their heyday or not. The only thing I didn't realize was that there is no tour guide on this tour. I was met at the rail station and given an envelope with train tickets, a map of Liverpool and passes to get into The Beatles Story and to get on the Magical Mystery Tour bus...the rest is up to you! If I had realized that I would have done a little bit of research before going, but it's a pretty straight-forward and small city. Every part of the day was fantastic and to top it off, at the end of the bus tour, they drop you off at The Cavern Club - where we spent 2 hours listening to a brother duo who do covers of Lennon and McCartney songs. A great way to end a great day!

The trip and venue was fantastic, regrettably the guide or Viator was misinformed about the timing for the coach part of the tour. We were all advised by viator that it was a 12:30pm departure but at this time of the year they do not run the 12:30 one and it was at 2:30 so several of us were dissappointed to not see other things due to the fact that we all organized our day around the 12:30 time. That was quite disappointing.

I really enjoyed the tour and learning more about the Beattles. I took the tour in conjunction with the National Trust Tour of the interior of the Beatles childhood homes. My only concern which could have been a serious problem was that the locat Tour Agency, Evan Evans, did not book my bus tour with them for the afternoon as discussed with Viator. They claimed that Viator did not inform them, and that there was nothing that they could do. I was lucky in that one seat was available for the afternoon tour and I was able to make the change myself. Otherwise I would not have been able to take the tour that I paid for, as I had a morning tour with the National Trust Tour. Evan Evans did not care about what had happened, would not assist me, and they were half an hour late in meeting us at the train station in Liverpool. I would be interested to know if Viator actually told Evan Evans to book the afternoon tour as I had discussed with them, or as Evan Evans indicated, that Viator never told Evan Evans.

Self-guided tour, with minimal interaction with tour operator. The Beatles Story museum is well presented. The Mystery Tour bus tour stops or drives by many historically relevant Beatles sites. Return to LIverpool should be earlier or additional afternoon activities included.

Loved it! The whole experience was great. We had no stress entry into the museum and the Magical Mystery Tour was so informative. Perfect way to experience Liverpool, I wish we could have stayed longer!

This was the highlights of my trip! I really enjoyed the flex time and freedom in between activities to explore Liverpool. I realized that there is so much to do and see there and I hope to return someday! I felt this was well worth the money! I learned lots of fun little facts that I could never have learned from books or documentaries. To be in the Beatles home town and see the places that had meaning for them was a treat, and I have a greater scope and appreciation for their work!

The tour was amazing! I've been a Beatles fan since I was 10, and now my 11-year-old daughter is too, and our whole family enjoyed this tour. The train ride up from London was smooth, and we were able to walk through Liverpool on our way to The Beatles Story museum. The museum is great, and the audio guides were perfect for our daughter to easily learn the Beatles history without having to read everything posted. My only complaint there was that the music playing over the speakers in the museum was a bit loud, so it was sometimes hard to hear the audio guide. The Magical Mystery Tour bus ride was fantastic! We stopped on Penny Lane, at Strawberry Fields, and got out at both George and Paul's boyhood homes. The tour guide was great and told amazing stories about the Beatles. The only downside was that the day was sunny and warm and the air conditioning on the bus wasn't working well. A once in a lifetime experience well worth the money! I would absolutely recommend this tour to any Beatles fan.

It was awesome. The guide did an excellent job and the fact of having The Beatles music all the way was fantastic. The organisation very well. A little critic would be to provide a better Liverpool map. It was kind of confusing. But anyway, it was a great experience.

We really enjoyed the trip. The rail was comfortable and trip was well organized. The Mystery Tour and Beatles live was well worth it. You may want to consider allowing some people to take an earlier train back (though we used all the time with other activities, and music in the Cavern Club.)

This was probably my favorite thing we did outside of London! It is a must for Beatles fans and if you aren't a Beatles fan, book it anyway to get a taste of Liverpool. The people in Liverpool are very friendly and Liverpool has a little bit of everything. We didn't find it difficult at all to find our way around, even without a map. As soon as you step off the train, you will see signs directing you where to go, just pay attention! The Beatles museum was ok, nothing too spectacular, but interesting to say the least. The magical mystery tour was the highlight!! We had so much fun on the bus seeing all the Beatles' homes and where they grew up. Our tour guide Paul was a treat and so funny! The tour doesn't go to the Cavern Club because of the roads, but it does drop you off very close by and they will tell you how to get there. We spent several hours at the Cavern Club before the train left for London. We were able to drink some local Liverpool ale and listen to a Beatles cover band that sounded amazing! My husband and I were both in Heaven!!! I would definitely love to return to Liverpool someday because of this tour and our wonderful experience!

The trip was wonderful and we really enjoyed the Magical Mystery Tour and the museum. It was just enough time to see everything and do everything without being rushed. It's convenient to have everything organized for you, but honestly, it would have been just the same if we had booked it on our own. The lady we met at Euston station didn't arrive until 6:30 and we were a bit nervous since we were told to arrive 10 minutes early and didn't know when the train left, and the map they gave us was worthless--printed off of Google maps or something. There's a coin operated machine in Liverpool Lime Street Station where we picked up a good map for a pound. Since it's a self-guided tour, there's really no point in booking through a tour company--just get the train tickets, tour tickets, and museum tickets on your own.

A great trip for my wife, son and me. we were also very pleasantly surprised at how nice Liverpool was. Plenty of time for us (Beatles fans) as well as being able to explore the Albert Dock and the Maritime Museum. Train was also very smooth and scenic.

The Beatles Story, Magical Mystery Tour, and train ride was great. We had a fantastic time. The agent we met at Euston Train Station gave us an inadequate map and told us we were on our own. Fortunately, we were able to purchase a good map of Liverpool at the train station. The walk from the train station was confusing, but there were signs pointing to Albert Dock, and it is hard to miss. Once we found everything, the visit was very good. We enjoyed the visit to the Cavern Club. There is a very good Irish Pub with good prices past the Cavern Club. Our train ride going and returning was very pleasant.

The trip was a total blast. Our driver and guide were great. Even when the bus died and we had to walk a bit until the bus could catch up with us, no one had any issues. We actually were able to see a few landmarks that the bus would have only been able to pass but not stop at for any length of time. Highly recommened.

Had a bad day - the tour bus broke down, and we had to walk for a while. When they got it going, we had lost 45 minutes, and they tried to make up time by hurrying through the rest of the tour, missing some important points. Also, the guide spent too much time in conversation with one person, ignoring everyone else. We left disappointed, after looking forward to this tour.

A must for true Beatles fans. Very relaxing and comfortable train ride, even though it was only standard class. Once in Liverpool, ample time to explore on your own, then on to the magical mystery tour! Great guides and they stop at all the important places for photos! Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane, Boyhood home, ETC. The guides were entertaining as well. Time in the afternoon to go to the museum, and cavern club.

We really enjoyed our day trip to Liverpool from London. It was easy booking on the internet before we arrived and it was good that everything was arranged for us so all we had to do was ring the day before to confirm our booking. The day went very quickly as we also bought tickets from the National Trust to tour the Beatles homes. Liverpool is a lovely city and there is plenty to do to fill in the day.

The Magical Mystery Bus Tour Guide "NEAL" and the Driver "STAN" were INCREDIBLE!!! It was an experience we will always cherish.. We loved it. The Beatles Story Museum was awesome.. Beatles Fab 4-D, The 4-d was out so we did not get the glasses and towards the last section of the movie it went out completely. If it would have been working right you could tell it would have been very good and fun. We LOVE Liver Pool!!!!

Met the representative at the station in the morning, but he didn't have a company plaquenametag like they said he would. We only picked him out because we saw another couple approach him and he gave them a packet. Liverpool was kinda dirty compared to London, we didn't spend much time exploring the city. We walked straight down to the docks took 15mins from station and went in the Beatles museum, which was really cool. Then the Magical Mystery Tour at 12pm, which departed by the docks. The tour was great, they stop at all the main sites for you to get out and take pictures Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, and each of the Beatles' childhood houses. We even had a guy hop on the bus for a few minutes who was there the day Lennon and McCartney first met and he recounted his story. The tour ended at the Cavern Club around 2pm, so if you want to go back to the docks to see the maritime museum or other attractions, you have to walk back again probably 10min walk. We weren't in the mood to do much else after the tour, it was raining and we were tired. We walked back to the station to see if we could take an earlier train. The tour operator scheduled us on the 648pm train and were told no by a crabby ticket agent. To kill some time we ate and went to the art museum, but even after that we still had 2 more hours to go. Finally we approached a train representative and she kindly validated us on the next train out without any problems, so we were back in London by the time the original train would've been leaving Liverpool. All in all the Beatles portions were excellent!

A great day out of London. A representative met me at the train station and gave me the information packet and train tickets, along with the vouchers for the Beatles Story and the Magical Mystery Tour. The Beatles Story was very interesting. It's a definite must for any Beatles fan. Our guide on the Magical Mystery Tour was great. I saw several sites where the Beatles got their lyrics from, which was great. Overall, I'd recommend this tour to anyone who wants to get out of London for a day to see a different city in England.

On the actual tour, the guide was great. He knew a lot of Beatles history and shared great anecdotes. The stops along the tour hit all the highlights and being able to see Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, the Cavern Club and the neighborhoods were The Beatles grew up was a priceless experience.
