Private Tour: Luxor West Bank, Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple

Private Tour: Luxor West Bank, Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple

Luxor, Egypt

Tour the most famous sites on Luxor's West Bank in the company of an expert private guide. You'll step back into Egypt's ancient history at the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple on this private morning tour from Luxor. As this is a private tour, you can determine the amount of time you'd like to spend at each site.

Crossing the Nile River to the West Bank, you'll visit the necropolis of the ancient city of Thebes. Arriving at the Valley of the Kings, burial place of the kings of Thebes (ancient Luxor), you will have a brief stop at the visitors center. Guides are not permitted inside the tombs, but your guide will tell you what to look for inside the elaborately decorated rooms. If you wish to visit the tomb of King Tutankhamun, an additional cost is payable direct.

Leaving the hot sands of the Valley of the Kings, you will visit the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of the most striking monuments in Egypt. Your guide will introduce you to the history of the temple and the story of Queen Hatshepsut, the famous female ruler of Egypt who posed as a male to gain the throne. There is free time to explore at your leisure as you wander the large courtyards and admire the intricate hieroglyphic decorations.

Returning to Luxor there will be time for a brief photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, which mark the site of the funerary temple of Amenhotep III. These two giant statues standing tall and proud on the West Bank are all that remain of the ancient complex.

In addition you will have the chance to visit an alabaster factory and purchase genuine items if you wish.

A definite must. Do not go to Egypt without doing this tour. A private guide also makes the tour more personal and interesting. Worth every cent

Our tour was awesome, we were picked up on time and the tour was provided professionally. Lunch with the tour was excellent and a good time to take a rest. I did not feel pressured to take another tour and thought the price was worth a stress free trip.

Our guide was terrific! The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is because I wish that he had done something to deter all the touts. He left us on our own and when he was with us, he didn't speak to them either. He was extremely knowledgeable and we will certainly return to Egypt and us Viatours! Aloha, Pam

I think the sites are beautifull and interesting but you need a guide that is proactive. Unfortunatelly mine wasn't and i'm sure it could have been better.

Stunning! Our guide, Dina, was wonderful. She knew what she was talking about and explained it in a way that we understood. Dina was brilliant by far the best guide we had (that is saying something as Nana in Cairo was pretty good too).

The Valley of the Kings was interesting, but not as "big" as we expected. The tombs were rather small and very stuffy. Tutankhamen's tomb is not really worth the extra charge. It was more interesting to see everything excavated from the tomb at the Cairo Museum. Hatshepsut's Temple was neat and had a beautiful view of the Nile. Our tour guide was very irritable and made us feel very rushed. When my husband decided to try and negotiate a deal for some souvenirs, she seemed almost angry that she had to wait. I would definitely go see the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's Temple, but it is better to see it without the guide.

Excellent guide and driver. Was very friendly and knowledgable. He had an entire dossier with hand drawn diagrams to explain to us the architecture of tombs in the Valley of the Kings, since guides are not allowed inside the tombs.

We contacted guide as per instructed and met Hedra, your rep there who was our saving grace in Egypt! He managed to arrange everything we needed and provide us with amazing service. We had Rami as our tour guide and he was good. We would have liked to have more time at each location since there is so much to see! We were disappointed that we were not told in advanced that if you purchased a second full price ticked you could enter to see more tombs. We skipped the factory visits...not interested. The sights are spectacular and worth the visit. Having a car with ac waiting at the end was just perfect! We combined this tour with the East Bank, Karnak and Luxor which made our guide want to hurry a bit more to cram it all up and finish earlier. We felt we did not get the full benefit of the 7 hours we were expecting to get. Still, the places are amazing. Take lots of water!

First class trip.Very tiring but worth while. You get to see the real Egypt.Valley of the kings very good thanks to our guide. The horse and carriage ride through the old town exceptional and have your camera ready. Meal in the hotel in Luxor average, but beware of drinks they are very expensive. Would recommend trip to anyone.

The trip was nice and the guide knowledgeable. However at the end she took me to a store where I was expected to buy something. I am assuming she received some kind of kick back from it. If they offer it to you I recommend taking a pass on it.

Worth it if you are not sure about how to get to the Valley of the Kings and how to get around the Valley of the Kings. Having done the tour and if I were to go back to V of K and Hats Temple I might try to go independently. That's because I could see the tombs that I want to see and as many as I want. And spend as much time as I want. Maybe one could tell the guide up front which tombs they want to see.

I recommend making the 9 12 hr trip by train or 50 min plane to Luxor from Cairo. The sights are breathing. If you travel by train be sure and get a round trip ticket because the trains often sell out.

This was a very good tour. The tour guide was excellent and the tour company was very reliable. I could not spend too much time in Luxor so this tour enabled me to see a lot with an efficient use of time. For those with more time, the tour would give one an overview so that one could explore later by onesself

The tour guide was nice, we arranged to go at noon to avoid bus tours and we were lucky since it was cloudy. You get to go inside of three tombs on the Valley of the Kings, is very hot inside, just try to enjoy the amazing decoration. The guide should ask you if you want to stop at shops, we would have rather spend more time at the sites. The downside to the tour is that you are the one responsible of getting in touch with the local tour agent, phone calls from hotel are expensive, they should be the ones calling you to the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Viator tour of the West Bank. Our guide's passion for her native Egyptian history was evident from the start and her knowledge was infallible. We even had one occassion to correct the explanation being given by a non-registered guide at Hatshepsut's Temple. Thoroughly recommend it.

Overall the trip was great. The guide was nice and knowledgeable. After this tour, we did a tour through another company. That one was phenomenal. It was a quarter of the price of Viator, and it was more relaxing and more friendly, and we weren't taken to places where we were pressured to buy things.

The local company used was excellent-there was a message for us when we arrived at our hotel with pick up and contact details. Michael-the local manager was efficient and polite. Our Egyptian guide was brilliant-we have done this trip twice before but we learnt so much more this time. We were a party of 5 and we had a minibus all to ourselves. Organisation faultless

Do not try to see Valley of the Kings on your own. it's quite a drive from Luxor and you could really get lost with the crowds of tourists, vendors, etc. The air conditioned van was so appreciated!! Our guide explained so much. We would have just been wandering around "looking at the pretty pictures" and instead we understood the heiroglyphs and statues that we saw. Loved it!
