Marrakech Discovery Tour

Marrakech, Morocco

Discover the multiple facets of Marrakech with a stroll in the labyrinth of the narrow streets of the Medina amongst its famous Souks. Immerse yourself in times of old with visits to the most beautiful palaces and monuments of Marrakech including Bahia Palace.

Stroll through the labyrinth of narrow streets in the Medina and visit the famous Souks, selling everything from leather to clothing to spices.

Witness the astonishing spectacle of Djemaa El Fna Square. Used equally by locals and tourists, you will find juice stalls, water sellers and snake charmers by day and dancing boys, storytellers and magicians by night. As darkness descends, the square fills with food stalls.

Visit the most beautiful palaces and monuments in Marrakech including Bahia Palace: Built in the late 19th century, the name literally means 'brilliance' and was intended to be the greatest Palace of its time. You will also visit the Saadian tombs, only recently discovered in 1917 and restored. The tombs have, because of the beauty of their decoration, been a major attraction for visitors of Marrakech.

Lunch is included at a restaurant in the Medina and there will be many photo stops enroute back to your Marrakech hotel including the Koutoubia, Dar El Bacha, Medersa ben Youssef and Dar Nejjarine.

Excellent tour. The best way to get to know Marrakech. Tour took us to hidden streets we could not reach by ourselves. Best tour guide ever: good communicator, knows a lot of history, respecful serious and responsible. Some characteristics that were really difficult to find in many people ithe city.

This was a trip to different shops that sold the products ten times the normal price so that the tour company would get commission. At least 4 hours in the afternoon were spent at different shops.

Ali would go down in history as the best tour guide in Marrakech. This tour actually took around 9 hours but who cares! The lunch was absolutely amazing, sooooo much food! Ali - thank you so much for such a wonderful day - Karina and Claudia

A good tour visiting some areas we would'nt have seen by ourselves. Lunch excellent in interesting restaurant. The group managed to stay together which was quite something cosidering the number of people and the chaotic area we were vsiting!. The guide spoke excellent English and was really very good but seemed to rather lose his grip of things after the totally unnecessary and much too long visit to a pharmacy type place....All in all we enjoyed the tour with the exception of the" oils " which as I said was far too long and really intensly boring in our opinion and many others we spoke to.

Overall the tour was very good. We were spit into an English group and French group. The English group was smaller, which was good and the guide was very knowledgable. You see just about everything there is to see Marrakesh, and its not just the same things over and over, i found the day very interesting. The lunch was good too! We were there 4 days and this was the best thing we did.

Quite a good tour. Rather a large group when I took it (about 30 people) and the start point is not ideal if you are staying in the Medina itself. If you are in an outlying resort hotel then it is ideal. Good lunch (perhaps too long allowed for it) so a full day. However seeing the main square at night is not to be missed so you might want to come back for that.

Quite an enjoyable day though everything felt very rushed. Although it's a lot of walking (end of the day the pedometer read 13kms) you won't feel it. Guide was very nice and shared a lot of info, but his pace was so high that we lost people of the group time and again and he had to go back to find them while we waited. If you're looking to shop, this tour is not for you. If you have limited time and wanna squeeze in the must-sees in Marrakesh however, then this is the tour you want.

We found the tour to be informative and enjoyed the chief tour guide and his sense of humor. There is certainly a great amout of time walking and/or standing, so it is not for everyone. The one disappointment was the visit to the carpet cooperative where the high pressure sales methods were not appropriate for a city tour. Overall, worth the money.

Fantastic trip and great value for money, Our guide was excellent and provided us with lots of interesting information about the places we visited. Only downside was our party of 5 included 3 Spanish guestswhich meant everything was explained in English and Spanish but that did not spoil our enjoyment. we visited places in the old town that we would not have ventured to on our own. Marrkech is an amazing and vibrant city, exceeded my expectations and well worth a visit, If you have time while you are there take a trip to the Atlas mountains, stunning scenery and quite an experience. Other reviews have said the same thing but its true, if you only have time for one trip you MUST do the Discovery Tour, you will not be disappointed,

After a blip in our original planned schedule, this tour was great. I did not think there was too much walking. Had our 9 year old with us and she never got bored. she enjoyed the stop at the government sponsored craft shop--the women let her work the loom. Lunch was very good and filling. I wouldn't buy from the gov't shop. There are really nice markets away from the main touristed souk (closer to the Koranic school) that have really nice and better priced carpets, tea pots.

A good tour and a knowledgeable guide; however the carpet making demonstration turned out to be no info or demonstration on how carpets are made - just a shop selling rugs which are a big expensive purchase for most people.

We were first time visitors to Marrakech so decided on a Discovery Tour. Have used Viator in the past in other countries and were always satisfied. This is a really good way to see some of the major points of interest in Marrakech. There were only 8 people in our group (4 x English and 4 x Germans) which made it much better. The tour guide was excellent. Enjoyed a good lunch at a typical Moroccan restaurant. As with any guided tour, you can see the sights yourself but a guide gives full information which makes it much more interesting. The Tour ends up in the souk - and you do really get to go deep into the souk. No time for shopping (fortunately!) but you do get to see a lot. Thoroughly recommended.

Marrakech was fascinating, but our tour guide, who was quite knowledgeable was on a defined trip, which would be good for the guide's history and information. But the destined trips by co- merchants for our purchases were design for sales to us directly through the tour guide and the merchants. They were the first stop and the hopeful heavy first sales. I felt that these crafty show men were targeting us to buy their herbs, Moroccan goods, rugs and souvenirs before we even got the chance to look around and do the buying ourselves. I felt very pressured even though we said no. I disliked it. It turned me off. If I knew about the kind of tour this was. . . I would go with someone else. It is a shame, normally, I really do like Viator's selection of tours, but not this one. For the guide's knowledge, I gave him a 3, for the waste of time with this pushy vendors, I have them -2 . So the grade for this tour is a 1.

Overall I think the tour was ok but I would have liked a lot more information. Our guide, for example took us to a royal burial ground and told us to look around for 20 minutes and then gave a 2 minute overview at the end when it would have been a lot better if he walked round with us explaining things as we walked around. The walk through the souks was just that, without any explanations of anything. I would have liked more historical references throughout the day. Lunch was too long, and we had to ask to leave the restauarant as we had been sitting around for quite a while after everyone had finished leaving. Also despite me having mentioned I was vegetarian when booking no provision had been made. I then had to tell a waiter I was vegetarian when it became apparent we were not going to be asked what we would like to eat and was then bought a dish of vegetables straight out of the chicken tagine that the other guests were given. If you armed with a guide book Marrakech is very easy to look around yourself and you will probably get more comprehensive information from a book. It is quite a compact city and its easy to get around by walking and taxis. Overall i would not book this tour again.

Lunch was realy good and a welcome break from the walking. Carpet seller and herbalist visit both ok (in fact quite amusing) Not sure if it would be so great when the weather hots up.

Our guide was great, and kept us highly informed. We had the opportunity to see very interesting sights in the city, and the pace was perfect. The food served at lunch was delicious. I disliked immensely, however, that a man in the office accessed our hotel number, and rang myself and my female friend at 10pm that night to ask us out for drinks. Highly inappropriate, unsolicited, and unwelcome.

This tour should only last through lunch - the guide and the historical sights were fine, but the afternoon visit to the supposedly ”no pressure” carpet showroom - my husband and I experienced major hard sell and a mother/daughter were almost traumatized since they were led off to another room and really pushed to buy something. When the group was ready to leave, we asked about the 2 and were told that they would catch up with us because they were staying to purchase a rug. We expressed concern and the guide went back in and brought them out - they were thankful that we stayed for them and were upset with the experience at all. Then it was off to the healing herbs pharmacy which was much less hard sell and some people did buy a few items. Then it was a long walk through the souk where there was no time to even take a second glance at things. I did like seeing the craftsmen working on things - that was the best part.

Excellent value for money, the guide was OK and the lunch superb. On the negative side, we had to call Morocco a number of times prior to our trip to find out the meeting arrangements, and then had to take a taxi to the tour companies office (even though "hotel pick-up" was advertised), which proved challenging as we were given only a vague address. The tour company will not collect from the Medina - even from a prominent point.

If you want to do a city tour in Marrakech make sure you shop around first! My advice would be to check with your accommodation if/what they can arrange for you, as you’ll probably get better value for money and a tour better tailored to your specific interests. We were staying in the Medina and the tour company got really irritated when we asked if we could be picked up from somewhere (anywhere!) near our riad – although that wasn’t the case with some other couples who were also staying in the Medina but (as we later found out) had only booked the day before (as opposed to us, who had prebooked the tour before we went to Marrakech). What’s more, as it happens quite often in Morocco, most people in our group were French so our guide’s descriptions - even though I’m sure he meant well - were for the most part in French rather in English, so not a balance there. On the plus side, this tour does cover most of the must-sees in Marrakech (with the exception of Jardin Majorelle – though we didn’t appreciate the stop at the local shop in case we ‘wanted’ to buy traditional rugs) and the meal at the restaurant where we had lunch was very good indeed.

The tour was very good and the guide spoke excellent English. We were initially collected by coach but there was a lot of walking throughout the day. The tour covered all the main sites however the day was very long and everyone was tired by the end. It was an excellent way to see the main sites and find out about their history - great if you only have a few days in Marrakech.

The content of the tour was very good. I think that after lunch could be dispersed with, the lunch would be a good finish to the tour. We did visit every aspect of the souk but once you've seen it it is not necessary to see every section in such detail.

Excellent tour of the city - one complaint- guide lost 8 of us while we were in the souk. We backtracked to the last place we had seen him, and they guided us back to the last meeting place. There are a lot of scooters, cars and bikes in the souk and it is very easy to get separated from group. Lunch was very good.

I was booked on a French speaking tour, but I wanted an English speaking tour. I was the only English speaker and fortunately, the guide spoke English. However, it seemed he spent more time explaining the sites to the French speakers and less time translating it to English to me. I felt the tour was okay, but I didn't get the detailed information as the French speakers did.

A long and full day that took us to all the sites we wanted to see in one day in the town. The pick up in the morning was delayed by over 30 minutes and so we thought we had missed it and were unable to contact the office to confirm if we had missed the tour. The guide was very informative and gave us plenty of stops to take photos. We finished the day in the main square which was wonderful.

If you have only a day to see Marrakech, and want to avoid the hassle of finding your way around, this is a great tour. Keep in mind that on any group tour you will occasionally feel like part of a "herd," and there is not really any extra time built in to wander off on your own, but overall this was excellent! We hit all of the main sites and had a delicious huge lunch. The guide got us into all the sites easily and quickly. There was just the right amount of time at each place. At the end of the day we had an hour or so to shop on our own at the Medina. Given how tight the streets of Marrakech are, and the lack of public transportation, I found this tour well worth it!

The guide was excellent! However, the trip was a little drawn out and could have been done in less time. The museums and places were great, but a little too much of the same thing. I would have preferred more time in the Souks instead! Overall I enjoyed the tour, but older tourists may find it a little too long and the younger ones a little too boring!

If you do this, make sure that your language is the primary one spoken on the tour. It was a French tour and there were only 5 English speaking individuals so they gave us an inferior tour guide. We often had to ask what the other one was saying so that he would translate the French to give us the English. I don't think we should have to ask for information on a guided tour. I often felt like I was missing out on a lot of important information because I wasn't French.
