Great Ocean Road Shipwrecks and Wild Clifftops Luxury Small Group Ecotour

Melbourne, Australia

Discover the breath-taking scenery of the Great Ocean Road on this luxury day trip from Melbourne. Traveling in a small group, maximum ten people by luxury vehicle, this is an intimate and unique way to explore Victoria's south-west coast. Travel through Otway Rainforest, see the famous12 Apostles rock formations and during a stop at Loch Ard Gorge, your guide will share the intriguing story of Victoria's most tragic shipwreck that gave the gorge its name.

As you leave the city centre and restored docklands area of Melbourne, the stretching suburbs and Port Phillip Bay can be seen from the top of Westgate Bridge. Enter the volcanic western plains of Victoria where European settlers forged their way as far as the Otway Ranges, establishing large sheep properties and homesteads.

Travel though Geelong and see the port that was the centre of trade during the famous goldrush era in the 19th century. Enjoy morning tea at Winchelsea's Riverside Park.

Cross rich sheep and dairy farmland and breathe the fresh clear air that rises from the southern oceans to the pristine rainforest canopy. The lush valleys in the rainforest have protected old trees from several wildfires including the infamous Ash Wednesday Black Friday fires.

See the famous London Bridge rock formation, giving you the opportunity to photograph the dramatic coastline and lookouts into the ocean.

Lunch will be at Port Campbell, followed by a short drive to the Shipwreck Coast bringing tales of heroes and follies, as many ships have floundered along this wild coastline. View the 12 Apostles ocean rock formations from a coastal boardwalk and visit the shipwreck site of Loch Ard where two survivors struggled ashore amidst the wreckage. Then relax and unwind as you travel back to the Melbourne city, to arrive at around 6pm.

I think that it might be appropriate to carry anti-nausea tablets for passengers on this tour - the road to the 12 apostles is incredibly curvy and I got ill enough to have to make the driver stop so i could throw up my breakfast. But once you get there, the scenery is very beautiful, and much greener than other parts of Australia

We had an excellent tour guide on the Great Ocean Road tour - very knowledgeable, engaging and friendly, and showed us wild koalas and kangaroos on the way!

The trip was great! The driver certainly knows what she's talking about, and it was a breathtaking journey through the great ocean road without the other tourist crowd,s because we took the opposite route which I think is better than the route taken by the busses.

Our trip was fantastic, made all the more enjoyable by the fact that we were the only people on it! We had our guide's undivided attention, and stopping for photo ops etc was no problem at all. Our guide was sociable and knowledgeable of the area. Our trip down to the GOR was very comfortable. Once there we had plenty of time to explore and also took a helicopter ride over the the Apostles, giving us an opportunity to see them in their full glory and take more photos! The helicopter ride is an additional cost but well worth it. The shipwreck site was interesting, and we even had time for a quick paddle in the sea. Lunch was at Apollo Bay and was very nice, with a good choice of food. The drive along the coast was breathtaking with plenty of photo stops, followed by a trip to see the koalas, parrots and lots of kangaroos. Driving home we got a number of lovely sunset shots followed by the city lights. Lovely day, great value for money and we would recommend it.
